DQ 3-5 are the peak of the franchise. No reason to play any of the others unless you're starved for jarpigs
1 is great but it's obtuse as frick
Objective ranking: 11 -> 3 -> 5 -> 4-> 8 -> All
I beat them all once and moved on
They are just alright, but they have some kino moments
I would love to be 12 again and have the ability to throw away 60 hours on a comfy bland experience.
the classic DQ games aren't particularly long usually around 20-30 hours. Its not until DQ7 that they all become stupidly long
>What do you think of the Dragon Quest series Ganker?
best game series to play while high on weed
loser
I got the Rain Rod or whatever it's called. Where do I go next
Dragon Quest came with a map and detailed guide.
Play 8 and 7 then play the SNES ones. Never play anything but the original versions.
Builders 2 is 10/10.
Heroes 2 is solid 7/10.
I've gotten around playing three of them over the past year. The games are good all around, but they're just so samey that I can't just jump between them without feeling the fatigue sink in. I thought that something like 2 was perfect in terms of progression and length, its the only one I played that didn't feel like it overstayed its welcome. 6 on the other hand is heinous, it has some of the worst class progression I've seen in a long time.
Been laying them and the Final Fantasy games over the past 5 years.
DQ3 > DQ5 = FF5 > DQ 4 > FF4 > FF3 > DQ 2 > FF1 > DQ1 > FF2
You're supposed to get lost. Just talk to people and keep notes.
I need to play more of it. I've only played 8 and beat 11. I got to some point in the first game, but couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do and didn't want to use a walkthrough, so some people would say I got filtered, I would partially agree.
I've played 1, 2, and 11. 1 and 2 are fantastic, but require you to take notes, ESPECIALLY 2. 11 is horrendous and caused me to go back to the beginning and try out the series. Thankfully they started strong. Although I wonder how quickly they turn into 11.
They turned into 11 at 11
Its what happens when you invest millions into graphics
>I'm playing 1
DQ1 is awful
Frick you. 1 is unironically the best and I will fight you in the streets.
I played em all using guides and had fun. They're meant to be chill grinding games with classic stories.
Is it okay to play the first 3 games with a guide?
No, not at all. They are heavily player-driven experiences and rely on exploration. That, and there aren't any mind-bending puzzles. It would just be a waste of time.
Emulating dq9 on SteamDeck and it’s one of the best games I’ve ever played. 70 hours in about to enter the post game. The class system and customization is fantastic
I've only finished 8, 11, and Builders 2. they were all pretty great.
been thinking about picking up the mobile ports for some of the older games, but not sure I'll ever get around to it.
DQ games are good if you like the charm. I played all of them because of that. I am now going through older FFs and I finished 1-3, closing in on FF4 but overall so far I find them boring compared to DQ games since they're a little less charming when it comes to monsters and stuff.
draw a map
take notes
it's good ass gaming
CONSISTENCY and SOLID GAMEPLAY
i only played one on the ds about angels and it was awful
the art design was pretty good but the job system was stupid, the crafting system was designed to waste your whole life, and the game was so rigid you couldn't do anything in the game unless you were actively following the story and nothing else.
it was a terrible game, are the other ones way better?
DQ11? I liked it, Greygnarl was a dope guy
Correction, it was DQ 9. I'm moronic
>I'm playing 1 right now and i'm so lost
DQ1 for the most part is like a straight line from beginning to end. The only things I can see someone getting stuck on is getting the flute and going around the outside border of a town to find the hidden key shop.
8 is the best and it's the 3ds version.
One of the most consistently good RPG franchises ever. Has its unique style, never strays from it despite some games being drastically different. Some of the games are meh, but the best are some of the best RPGs ever made. Absolutely top tier franchise, especially for weebshit that's usually derivative and soulless.
5 really did invent pokemon, and like all snes games, it was visually breathtaking at the time of its release, pure kino
3 was one of the first jrps that did classes right, and birthed a lot of DQ staples, and also had the flying song which got reused for 8
4 had character arcs and character themes (so did 2) and the FF series later built upon this extensively
6 and 7 are ultra bland but not actually bad. 6 has a neath throwback to DQ1 but did classes very poorly
9 is good if you want to make custom characters, but worst main villain in the series
8 and 11 are obviously great, I dont think I need to say anything
1 and 2 are for fans only, you really do have to grind if you want to progress, and probably read a faq if you dont want to look at everything
I'm playing V right now and so far I'm having fun but this one feels overrated compared to the others I played
I love Dragon Quest, just finished up Monster Joker 1 again which I played as a kid.
Personally
IX > VI > V > XI > VII > IV > VIII > III > II > I
