Even at #19 it's still at only ~1.5M copies of ~$10 each at best, a third of that is taken by the distribution services like Steam and a third is taken by taxes. With his decision to move to Japan, a notoriously expensive country to move to, I don't think he lives the life of a rich person.
Holy shit are Human Fall Flat and Castle Crashers high. I've bought both drunkenly three times to local co-op with friends on different platforms, but I had no idea they're that popular.
Love Hollow Knight, Cuphead, Shovel Knight etc. games that revived older game design that AAA studios had been ignoring.
Limbo is absolute ass. I remembered it was good, but I just replayed it and it's fricking dogshit.

This isn't a matter of years old - this is objectively all wrong, it was always objectively all wrong. At no point of history was this list anywhere remotely close to being accurate.
That doesn't mean the sales numbers were available at the time of making the list, but we should try to make an up to date one anyway
But they were available at the time of release. This list is just pure bullshit. It's someone listing his personal favorite games, in very loose order of sales. Everything about it is wrong, the person who made this just lied.
Actually if you Google "best selling indie games" this exact list in this order is one of the first results with purported sales numbers as an article on some random ass website
In fact, now that I look at it, it's COMPLETELY wrong. Firewatch sold around 2.3 million copies. Satisfactory around 3.1 million, Factorio had 3.5 as of early 2022, Limbo sold under 2 million copies world-wide, Untitled Goose games sold around 1.1 million (compared to Goat Simulator which sould more than a double of that), The Long Dark sold around 5 million while Subnautica sold more than 6.5 million... what the frick IS THIS LIST?
WHAT IS THE GOD DAMN SOURCE FOR THIS IMAGE? Is it console specific list?

Still holds up even if it's mostly the same game before MS took over with some questionable monetization tacked on. >Terraria
Pretty good, hours and hours of fun. >Castle Crashers

Good for like a little bit but then the games start to feel the same >Fall Guys

Amazing art and animation, great gameplay, but I couldn't get past the tutorial with the jump dash >Dead Cells
I love roguelites and I played this for hours >Enter the Gungeon
This one never really clicked for me >Hollow Knight
Beautiful Metroidvania style game >Shovel Knight

You forgot publisher fees. That said, Toby also makes a frickton of money off freelance gigs here and there and shitton of merchandising.
There are other ways to make money. Toby is doing just fine
How can it be expensive "to move to"? Living costs are very low in Japan compared to North America.
Good for them. Dead Cells and Stardew Valley are a lot of fun.
great, meh, great, meh, meh
meh, meh, great, great, good
meh, meh, meh, meh, great
good, meh, meh, great, good
With the exception of Untitled Goose Game, I enjoyed the ones I've played those being Cuphead, Hollow Knight, Dead Cells and Shovel Knight.
Castle Crashers is cheating. It pretty much came with every kids 360
Rocket League is an indie game?

A sub 30 IQ american brain was behind this comic debacle. You can tell.
Object permanence, acquire it
Who exactly made this chart again?
Because Factorio sold almost a million copies more than Satisfactory did, and it isn't on the list.
Care to explain?
It's a years old chart
factorio was released 3 years before satisfactory. anon has a good point.
That doesn't mean the sales numbers were available at the time of making the list, but we should try to make an up to date one anyway
