What does Ganker think about their playdates so far? Any epic gameplay experiences? So far, I'd have to say my experience is fricking horrible so far because I ordered one May 21st 2022 and it still hasn't shipped. I don't think I'll ever be willing to preorder a product ever again.
Nothing Ever Happens Shirt $21.68 |
Why would anyone actually buy this?
I can only speak for myself but I bought one because I'm moronic
Indie console made by portland hipsters. It come with some free games of comparable scope to flash games. There's no backlight and the crank doesn't charge the battery. It's open source so anyone can make a game but unfortunately most of them look pretty bad and cost a few dollars each
Yeah just get an Odin or rp3 and invest in cdtomance
What the frick is that
>people who preorder a 200 dollar, black and white handheld with a handcrank that can't even charge the damn thing and no gaems
So do any of these games use the hand crank for anything meaningful that can't be done on any other platform
The crank is kind of like an analog sick except it's limited to the outer edge. There still isn't any definitive fishing game for the platform, and outside that there's not much point
OH NO NO NO NO NO
>doesnt give your playdate the power to be comparable with a gba or gbc
>doesnt give the playdate external controller support
>is a shitty bluetooth speaker
>looks out of place on any dark colored desk
>is a shitty penholder with a shitty pen
WHAT WERE THEY THINKING
Keita's game looks interesting but not enough to buy one of those things
https://uvula.jp/crankin
cmon man it's only 199 US Dollars plus shipping
>paying for a shitty plastic gadget for hipsters that can only run shitty "retro" games centered around the moronic gimmick
I'm not mentally ill.
this thing is so god damn overpriced the only people buying this are 35+ year old men with erectile dysfunction
if this was sub 60 dollars i could see it being good for kiddos
no one is consiously buying this over a switch lite or even a regular switch
this
It's literally a "quirky" handheld made for soi-guzzling hipsters who want to pretend they are special and unique and have a rare toy that few other people have, even if the toy is fricking dumb and useless
I can see it being useful if/when they let you run gb games on it if it even has the power to do that kek
you wouldn't want to play game boy games on it anyway. the thing has a 1-bit display, meaning it only shows black or white. even the original game boy had a 2-bit display able to show 4 different shades of gray (puke green.)
There's a gb emulator for it called gamekid but it runs like shit.
>Monochrome (1-bit) memory LCD display
>400 x 240 pixel resolution
>Refreshed at 30 frames-per-second (fps) by default, maximum 50 fps
>16MB RAM
>4GB flash storage
>200 mcburgercredits
I think the original gameboy was more powerful than that and cost less adjusted for inflation.
Don't exaggerate. Original gameboy had phone charger processing power.
But yeah, with a full fledged computer like raspberry pi selling for 10 dollars this is a total rip off.
i have yet to see any reason to make games for this instead of fantasy consoles like the pico-8 or TIC-80
This wouldve been halfway cool if the crank was used for power or something meaningful
It was a scam
>$200 hard earned dollery doos for a fricking black and white hipster handheld WITHOUT A FRICKING BACKLIGHT
this thing is a total scam, its hardware, specs, software, are all dogshit bad
there isnt even any good games for the crank, its too weak to have a decent fishing game
everytime you chuds call it scam another cali hipster is buying 2
a fool and his money are easily parted, let them waste their money on obscure trash
I'd have bought one if they were like 50 bucks.
>crank in the right side
How left-handed humans use this garbage?
>left-handed
>human
>left-handed
>human
pick one
play
dilate
haha, no way.. you preordered it? and you still didn't get it?
Aren't they on their second wave of games or something? Doesn't that mean the first wave is gone and you will never get to play those games?
It's worse than you think. Season 2 isn't out yet, and it's looking likely that it will be DLC. Even the current players would have to pay.
What's to say? They've been transparent enough. The fourth wave of shipments has finished and now the fifth (mine) has begun. I don't think this far-out preorder thing is a scam per se, just a bad idea. Unfortunately I think companies and consumers alike are becoming more comfortable paying for products that might ship several years later. Now this only makes sense if you're sure the company is legit enough to really send the product, and although I believe panic is legit, I've decided I don't want to support this model ever again. If the supply chain gets fricked up, production stops, and that sort of thing is out of anyone's control. From now on I only want to buy merchandise that is actually available.
>From now on I only want to buy merchandise that is actually available.
I realized the same thing myself recently after having to wait close to a year for a figma I preordered to get off of a boat. Doesn't feel good.
>Season 2 isn't out yet, and it's looking likely that it will be DLC. Even the current players would have to pay.
That's pretty scummy. Maybe I'm misremembering, but that was originally included with the asking price for the device, right? This thing caught my eye because of Takahashi's involvement, but the pricetag scared me away immediately.
There's no official word on season 2 but the creator has made ambiguous comments about what it would cost. Playdate says they want a model where devs get paid for their work which sound pretty optimistic for some obscure hipster pos with a tiny userbase. Also the games aren't $60 they're less than $5. Seems really unsustainable to me if they don't charge (not that I want them to)
I can respect that. Shame that things are so nebulous, though. I hope you enjoy it once it comes in; I really thought this thing looked cool, just too expensive for my tastes. If money were no object for me I probably would have bought it and the goofy speaker thing.
When I get the thing I'll give my honest thoughts on Ganker and rip the games if possible
Hell yeah, thanks man.
>I ordered one May 21st 2022 and it still hasn't shipped.
That's fricked up. Have you e-mailed them or called them yet?
I bought it years ago and forgot about it, got it I think last week. Not great so far. Turns out the games are drip fed to you only a daily basis for whatever reason and most of them are not worth more than maybe ten minutes of attention. I only bought it because the West of Loathing devs were making a game for it but I can't seem to find their game, possibly because the interface is dogshit and possibly because it's going to be randomly dropped to me a month from now. Really annoying.
There are 24 games in total, 2 released a week. And anything else worthwhile is paid
What the frick, it's weekly? Why? And also do you know anything about the Loathing game?
I know nothing sorry
I want an actual indie console as powerful as the xb360 that uses cds and only gives licenses to Ganker devs, kind of like a mix between a ps1 and the ouya if it wasn't shit
