It had 7 cities and one big, big city with a lot going on. Plus there are daedric shrines, smaller villages, aeylid ruins, inns and all kinds of other things to explore when you’re out on the road
it means is not as shit, but they realize they are shit and they try to have fun with it.
morrowind is a real rpg
oblivian is hybrid dumbed down
skyrim is full dumb down for masses.
Yeah. I’m sure Starfield newbies will max out their swimming skill the first time they see a puddle of water, and make it more difficult to level up their useful skills, while also increasing the autolevel of enemies.
it means it's kino and not trash.
it means it's deeper and more intricate.
it means it captures the atmosphere better
it means it's plain better in every single department.
this is Bethesda coming back to their roots, coming back home. this is going to be revolutionary. they are going to be setting standards again, as they were doing with Morrowind and Oblivion back in the day.
no more slop, no more trash. this is a complete reworking of their studio, of their engine, of their philosophy when it comes to game design.
It actually has some rpg elements. Oblivion had race matter, attributes, classes, and the birth sign.
Skyrim had no actual character choice that mattered. The races are essentially the same outside of few very minor differences. There is also no class or birthsign.
Starfield at least has some background traits that seem like they could have an interesting effect on the game.
This. It's going to feel like an actual RPG. That's what they mean with all this, and why they think their modern fanbase won't like it as much. It's because this is going to be an actually deep CRPG, possibly deeper even than Baldur's Gate 3 just in terms of the mechanics.
They’ve been trying to make RPGs with minimalist mechanics since morrowind. They’ve been toning down the traditional RPG mechanics for decades now, which culminated in FO4, which was so bad with the dumbing down that not just grognards seethed about it, but actual long-time Bethesda fans as well. So they’re making the game a little more traditionally RPG now. That’s not to say that the mechanics are deep or like a real RPG compared to something like Pathfinder, it’s more akin to what Oblivion had
>oblivion took place at the fall from decadence in the heart of an empire >Skyrim took place 15 years after a devastating war that saw the nation lose and suffer a treaty of Versailles. It's suffering a civil war and foreign occupiers.
>Oblivions music was a terrific classic fantasy symphony that gives the player a spirit of honour and duty to fight for the greater good >Skyrims music is about hyping up the player as a fabled demi god from myth coke to life to cause radical change
>oblivion overall was a comfy and often light hearted story that wasn't afraid to delve into horror. Many stories were about little people going about theirs lives >Skyrim was a bleak and metaphorically cold experience that repeated itself with stories for the player to slay another monster with little to no context.
the devs keep talking about how starfiel dis about hope and humanity and theres also some gags like how they brought back the annoying fan so I can see why it might be more like oblivion tonally.
Understandable. Morrowind was a similarly bleak adventure next to Skyrim. Oblivion stood out as being very vibrant and warm.
Basically since 2011 Bethesda has made Skyrim, and 2 fallout games. They haven't made an openly colourful game that's cheery in more than a decade.
I think they have the William Shen, the writer for FO4 far harbor as the main writer. Far Harbor from what I’ve heard was so good that even RPGcodex liked it
I played through it for the first time recently. I didn’t think it was as incredible as people make it sound. It felt to me like it was missing a proper epilogue. But it was definitely a step up from vanilla FO4 yeah.
Emil is still the “design director”, so who tf knows how much influence he really had
I think they have the William Shen, the writer for FO4 far harbor as the main writer. Far Harbor from what I’ve heard was so good that even RPGcodex liked it
just because he made a good dlc doesnt mean he will succeed at making an intersting main quest. Emil did the dark brotherhood storyline which was great but when it came to main story he failed. That said I've heard alot of good things about the main story so I have hope for shen.
All I know is that I don’t like Emil. His writing in FO3, Skyrim and FO4 was bad. But the worst thing was a keynote talk he gave at some gaming conference several years ago. In it, he basically says he has no faith in the players and therefore doesn’t give a shit about trying to make a good story. Pretty pathetic.
This Will guy is younger and hopefully a bit more starry eyed. This is his first big chance so I won’t hold much against him if Starfield turns out to be less than perfect. I just want Emil gone.
I hope you enjoy emptiness. At least Skyrim had 5 houses in a village.
Was Oblivion empty?
Yes
It had 7 cities and one big, big city with a lot going on. Plus there are daedric shrines, smaller villages, aeylid ruins, inns and all kinds of other things to explore when you’re out on the road
Empty
I mean it’s no more empty than any other open world game
Open and empty world game. Yes.
yes extremely so
it means is not as shit, but they realize they are shit and they try to have fun with it.
morrowind is a real rpg
oblivian is hybrid dumbed down
skyrim is full dumb down for masses.
I hope I have to level my jumping and running skill in starfield
haha jk
Yeah. I’m sure Starfield newbies will max out their swimming skill the first time they see a puddle of water, and make it more difficult to level up their useful skills, while also increasing the autolevel of enemies.
It means it's playable without mods
It means it's going to look and play like shit
A memetic hell full of ultra-broken mechanics and spastic AI
If you level your skills in the wrong order, your character is permanently gimped.
Never saw that movie, but makes sense judging by the poster
it means it's kino and not trash.

probably means its a lie

boulders three isnt really that deep which is probably why it appeals so much to the masses.
I think it means "worse than not only Morrowind, but even Skyrim".
Hopefully it doesn't mean a fricking obtuse and broken leveling system that kicked you in the balls if you tried to specialize.
It's going ti be generic with full level scaling

It means Emil Pagliarulo didn’t write the main quest

Far Harbor is only incredible by Fallout 4 standards.
Well, the last good game they made was Morrowind, so I guess it doesn't mean anything at all.
Hopefully it means Radiant AI is turned on this time unlike the downgraded scam that was Skyrim
More empty autogenerated landscape, endless samey dungeons made from the same 4 cave assets and of course level scaling
>Funnier
>Comfier
>Vastly better quests
hearing that is probably the closest ive been to wanting to buy this. i won't, but it got me close at least.
