We still haven't gotten a Mario Kart on the Switch, so I wouldn't be surprised if the next console skipped out on Smash.

Smash lives and dies with Sakurai, there's a reason he's been brought back for each entry and you're naive if you think a popular game/series will continue indefinitely. There's always something new that comes along and overshadows the old and an entry without Sakurai would be in name only.

The thing is Nintendo hasnt frickin mastered the ability to give Characters DLC costumes for smash. you can see shit like Project M give a character multiple different looks without affecting or adding game balance some of the fire emblem characters like frickin chrom and lucina should get costumed. This would cut down alot of dev time as well as piss less people off as well. while giving people technically the character they want and all they would need to do is technically put forth the effort and give these characters unique voicelines.
People love smash because of the minor details put into each character, and there are people who complain about Daisy not making any sense, but it's hardly noticed since Daisy is a very minor character. If that became more of a thing then fans would be a lot more vocal about their dismay.
I wish they actually did something with the concept outside of the base roster, I couple of relatively easy updates to add echos to existing fighters that could have them would have been pretty fricking cool
I just expect the echo idea to be cut entirely and for some characters to become skins.
I wouldn't be surprised if Roy and Chrom both get cut and give their moveset to Lucina, though.
