I don't know about you but I'm completely straight and yet I occasionally dream about being a beautiful women, and as such I love playing as female character that are meant to be a self insert for me.

some games are about immersione, some others are not, sometimes you replay something and want to do it differently too.

Depends. If it’s a game where you make choices that define your characters personality, it makes sense to self insert. Which is why I play a male in things like Fallout or Mass Effect
If it’s a glorified dress up game like an MMO, it makes far more sense to play as someone you want to frick. Which is why I play a male(male) character in those
