the only attacks that do anything are all on cooldown face buttons rather than inputs like any action game worth a shit
the stroy stops being cool after benedikta and things just happen because it's convenient to moving the plot along
sidequest design is literally MMO fetch quests
Same with me, I was down until after IX. I disliked VIII because the plot twist of the witch being the nanny for the bulk of the cast was so painfully stupid to me I dropped it right then and there. I watched a YT plot summary of 8 recently to confirm my feelings and I even felt the XIII summary was boring and stupid.
Now that gets me to X. Lots of losers love it because they have a thing for Yuna and her pilgrimage. The story, characters, the world - all terrible in my eyes. Battling? Average implementation.
Everything with Lightning and X-2 which I also played, made me question why I was still playing FF because it was utter trash.
When I showed my wife 15 I was embarassed to tell her I had liked FF at all. She also thought 15 was terrible as a girl who grew up with boy bands.
She saw the hype for FF7R for years and once she watched it, she understood why I liked FF.
If not for FFIV, FFVI, & FFVII - FF would be dead. Because XVI was not the savior of FF.
I liked the graphics of the forests, but man those side quests were so boring I eventually just started skipping dialogue because it provided zero joy to listen. I 100%'d the game, and it was difficult only because of the story.
Yoshi-P in interviews talking about FF14 >I love MMORPGs, I play them a lot. I made FF14 based on my love of MMORPGs. >I implemented features I like in other MMORPGs. >Of course, sometimes other MMORPGs have features or problems that make the game less enjoyable, so using my own experience with other games, I was able to come up with solutions to make the game even more enjoyable.
Yoshi-P in interviews talking about FF16 >I don't think there is a market for turn-based RPGs anymore. When we talk to younger gamers, they prefer FPS. So we changed the gameplay to appeal to young people. >I think the storytelling of JRPGs is unappealing to westerners. They prefer dark and gritty stories, so we made the story grittier and mature to appeal to older people. >We took inspiration from Game of Thrones, Attack on Titan, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Godzilla and Ultraman.
Why are nips so fricking stupid? Americans loved the old Japanese style MMOs, no one wants to play game of thrones call of duty when they play final fantasy.
>>I think the storytelling of JRPGs is unappealing to westerners. They prefer dark and gritty stories, so we made the story grittier and mature to appeal to older people. >>We took inspiration from Game of Thrones, Attack on Titan, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Godzilla and Ultraman.
both of these are good. the real reason this game sucked is because it's barely an rpg and because of forced easy mode i.e. boss health checkpoints
14 is 100% suffering from similar issues, which is even funnier if you watched Yoshida's noclip interview where he talks about his oldgay MMO days amd compare it to how much of the MM and RPG he has ripped out of 14 over time.
ignoring how moronic the endwalker plot and pacing was, if they just stopped fricking homogenizing all of the classes/roles it did l would be fine, there's barely any class identity anymore and that kills the game for me, personally
I don't know which game was more bland and shallow, Starfield or XVI. Probably Starfield, but XVI isn't far behind. At least XVI had a handful of cool moments and a good soundtrack.
>the dollar store version
I remember when we had a lot of dollar store DMCs and they were all better than the shit we have today >God of War >Dante's Inferno >Mitsurugi something something Hikae >Chaos Legion
Maybe once they mod in enemies without dogshit AI, actual mechanics, and improve Clive's moveset and customizability.
The groundwork for something good is there, but holy shit XVI at release just isn't it.
Co-developed with Sony SIE
Sony has had a hate boner for jrpgs since 2010, developing instead mediocre yet very expensive cinematic third person shooters with Hollywood aesthetics
SUDDENLY
FF16 teams thinks the word jrpg is a slur, turn based is bad, total PS5 exclusivity makes sense, and proceeds to make another cinematic Sony experience that has less role playing elements than a game boy action game squaresoft made in 1991.
It went about as well as releasing Banjo Nuts n Bolts as a mainline title, although they could have done worse (like a back to back Forespoken as FF16 and this one as FF17)
The game devs are more interested in chasing woke points than making good game.
It's just incredibly sad.
Story, Quest, Combat, Exploration, Character, Etc. Any complaints for ff16 can be blamed on the women in charge of them, I don't mean to be sexist, but we all know that women are generally incompetent, especially in this industry,
When a studio hires women, it's not for their expertise, but rather just to virtue signal and to accumulate social credit and diversity points.
No wonder FF16 became a sort of symbol for the woke crowd.
I've been playing FF since FF4 and as someone who 100%'d FF16, I can say the only thing this game had going for it was it's graphics. Practically everything else was shit. I just beat it because I bought it. I probably only used potions a handful of times. The side stories were so bad I couldn't believe it. As I was playing, I was telling my wife I could tell the game was made by MMORPG designers because it had a throw-away quality to it. The only good part the females who contributed it came up with was Clive fricking Jill and stealing her Shiva Eikon through his big dick energy. One of the worst FF ever. It's so refreshing to go back to FF7R and find actual enjoyable stories and characters, everything. Sounds like the issue in FF16 was the people they hired to make it.
Addendum, the Eikon battles themselves were great. I liked the idea of the story being so woven around Eikons, but beyond the Eikon battles themselves which weren't in abundance, the execution was abysmal.
i was a bit dissapointed with the eikon battles since it just evolved into more clive combat by the third one when i was expecting more variety since they were apparently replacing minigames
I can see your point. They were simplistic overall and resembled your basic mini-game. I guess they seemed to push the PS5's limits and were visually impressive, and they were memorable for that reason.
Extremely basic attack strings, 3 or 4 for light and your heavy is a weak ass magic spell. Magic Burst of Square/Y/Square/Y is boring as hell for a 50 hour game. The only real shit is cooldown based, and it takes along time to unlock all the summons plus most abilities have too much overlap if you just want damage.
RPG systems super basic, to where if this is what held back the action shit I'd rather have none of it.
-boring poorly paced story
-boring characters
-no switchable party members
-combat had potential but the end result was just a button masher
-sidequests are just time wasters
-performance is trash
-kaiju battles are either quicktimes or a clunky mess
-dated visuals
>claimed to be THE series that pushes boundaries and moves a genre forward >releases mediocre game eclipsed by its genre contemporaries in every way minus visual presentation
I want the PC release to come out so PCgays can go "we really waited X amount of time for this?"
Boss fights were fairly fun but most of the stuff between them was boring.
Many of the characters were actually fairly decent, but the plot does very little with them outside of their designated spotlight moments which makes them seem very lacking since you're handed breadcrumbs of real backstory.
Ultima is a great concept for a villain hamstrung by intentionally disjointed reveals about him, which lead to confusing or otherwise odd scenes which most people miss out on.
The sidequests outside those given by the characters directly related to Clive are awful and are clearly just there to shove in some form of worldbuilding, which is unfortunate because that worldbuilding is sometimes pretty decent. Seeing significant characters you've met throughout the game develop is good, but that development is buries under mediocrity.
The soundtrack is good but honestly that's to be expected with most major modern releases.
The combat is fun at times but is seriously missing variety in terms of gameplay mechanics. Swapping Eikons changes very little about actual playstyle except for Odin.
The game was too easy and the Hard mode should have been available at the start rather than as NG+.
Overall it was a 7/10 game in a year where a lot of good stuff came out. Being PS5 exclusive was also a terrible idea.
They probably ran out of money after bahamut fight. Shit was epic but they probably spent too many dev hours on it then had to simplify Odin.
The player was left with the expectation that Odin was gonna be at least on the same level of production as Bahamut and the team was left with the impossible task of one upping that with no dev hours.
At least thats one of the mistakes. I also think the ending was meh, should have given clive and joshua the W and everyone went on to be happy instead of having the protag use his one off divine like powers and still die, the bittersweet ending was more of a mistake because it compounded the unsatisfying feeling after bahamut, even if the ultima fight was pretty epic.
?si=lYLGP7-ySo6s--h1si=ucaSQbMIfP4VAzgZ >37 hours to beat the game

The game is more cutscenes than it is gameplay. Most cutscenes there's nothing interesting happening, and the gameplay isn't typically very interesting either, whith Clive traversing a completely barren world with nothing worth exploring or treasures worth getting, going through dungeons that are as linear and non-explorable as anything out of XIII aside from Gran Pulse, and fighting copypaste enemies with his repetitive abilities you can't augment in any meaningful way.
if i had a nickel for every time a game with british voice acting in the last two years had ended with a very long boss fight against a mediocre villain voiced by Harry Lloyd in a place called Origin, and then had an ending with a great deal of ambiguity to it, i'd have two nickels
So I will give my honest non shill opinion about this game as someone who borrowed a friend's PS5 just to play it.
I think that if this game did not have incredibly cool spectacle boss fights it would be a 3/10 game (the weapon upgrades, skill tree, and super overpowered cinematic ultimate move spam). I also think the ending makes actually no sense (why can bahamut get his powers back and not jill? why is she just waiting around for her hero to return?).
I think everything said and done I still give it like a 7, the boss fights were extremely entertaining and I would still recommend it just so you can see the fights as a spectacle.
Everything that people liked about this game (the characters, voice acting, story, music, and spectacle) could have worked just as well as an anime. They didn't need to bog it all down with extremely underbaked gameplay and game design. It probably would have helped a lot with the pacing problems the game had too.
the only attacks that do anything are all on cooldown face buttons rather than inputs like any action game worth a shit
the stroy stops being cool after benedikta and things just happen because it's convenient to moving the plot along

They haven't made a truly great game since the SNES, FF7 was decent but not as good as the SNES classics at all
Come on
Surely you mean FFX. Everything from IV through to X are good games. It's all the rest that bounce around in quality.
nta, but X is where I dropped the series for the most part, couldn't stand the characters and the lack of a world map to explore
Same with me, I was down until after IX. I disliked VIII because the plot twist of the witch being the nanny for the bulk of the cast was so painfully stupid to me I dropped it right then and there. >Americans loved the old Japanese style MMOs
JPRGs have always been a niche genre in the USA, stop being delusional
the majority of people have shit taste, so if you want to make the most money, you need to sell shit
>We took inspiration from Game of Thrones, Attack on Titan, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Godzilla and Ultraman.
LOL what? this can't be real
And they manage to do a boring shit
>This tells you everything about 16
this leads you to believe 14 isn't suffering the same problem of looking for mass appeal and pleasing no one.
But they still make turn based JRPG every year?
They don't give them a huge budget like FF16.
>>I think the storytelling of JRPGs is unappealing to westerners. They prefer dark and gritty stories, so we made the story grittier and mature to appeal to older people.

FFXVI could have been excelent if those japs weren't moronic at creating stories and side quests.
It is now wrong to take inspiration from those sources, I thought there was a lot to like in the demo but the actual game just shat all over it.
14 is 100% suffering from similar issues, which is even funnier if you watched Yoshida's noclip interview where he talks about his oldgay MMO days amd compare it to how much of the MM and RPG he has ripped out of 14 over time.

Hello, troony lover. Gonna "stumble upon" more of it today?
The combat isn’t good enough for action game fans.
The story isn’t good enough for movie game fans.
The RPG parts aren’t good enough for JRPG fans.
Try to appeal everyone and you appeal to no-one.
Hope this game was a wake-up call for SE, I want this series to be good again more than any other
it never will be. there is literally no coming back from how far they've israeliteed.
Trying to appeal to western fans and zoomers
So who's doing FF17?
microsoft is my guess
Yoko Taro
God, i hope so.
I don't even fricking want 17 or at the very least I don't need to see it for a good long while.
CBU3 again, but this time Ishikawa is the writer and Namae as lead artist, we're going full fujo/shojo boys
No one, hopefully
It's a FF game
Really excellent world building of an empty boring world.
People weren't excited for the game itself. They were excited because their cult leader made it.
movie game that released 4 years too late
also this
nothing, it's kino
I don't know which game was more bland and shallow, Starfield or XVI. Probably Starfield, but XVI isn't far behind. At least XVI had a handful of cool moments and a good soundtrack.
australian welfare
lack of talent. :'(
Even as someone who enjoyed it I can see why it doesn’t appeal to to a whole lot of people
I am still wating for PC port.
If I want DMC I'll play DMC, not get the dollar store version.

I remember when we had a lot of dollar store DMCs and they were all better than the shit we have today

Chaos Legion is fricking terrible. When was the last time you played it? When you were a kid?
Wait for PC port and this will be considered the best FF.
PS5 esclusive are a joke.

meds NOW holy...

this
Not even reddit liked this shit.
And no, just because reddit didn't like it doesn't mean Ganker should.

Is the DLC good? I didn't realize it had come out
It has a good final boss, and good pacing, but if you never played it during your time on Earth, you didn't miss anything.
it should've been in the base game
not really worth the money for itself, hope the second one is
Might wait till the second one is out then, maybe can nab them in a package

Ultima is a bad villian concept its just milking tactics
The two Ultimas are completely different outside of name, and FF16 Ultima changes at the end.
To become super ifrit that makes his stupid authism about clive pointless?
The Ifrit that Ultma becomes is old and damaged. Clive's is newly completed.
Still rape all of them
Except when Clive gets Phoenix's full power he beats the shit out of Ultima's Ifrit.
yoshitpiss has no ambition
The game is neither fun nor funny, you know, that thing that pretty much every single mainline FF game before it was.
It's both
There's literally no humor at all in XIII and nothing in XV was remotely funny, I'd argue it surpasses the handful of jokes in XII too
>nothing in XV was remotely funny
Ahem.
I like how in JP they played the side quest completely straight
Gameplay system that doesn’t lend itself well to a long story mode that’s locked to one difficulty. Should have been at most 15 hours than 50 hours.
God I hope Rebirth outsells this troonyslop. Barry is going to be a fricking menace if it doesn't.
