I worked at a bottling plant that did bottled water for grocery stores. Basically all bottled water is municipal tap water. Even the ones that say shit like "fresh spring water" or "filtered by reverse osmosis". Because guess what? Most cities in the US have springs and water filtration systems.

not him but I used to believe this however the truth is theres no such thing as good tap water, it may be ok for you but 200 year old copper pipes get disgusting and rotted no matter how advanced you think your country is, it just isn't good. I've lived in Canada, Dubai and now in the UK and thought this for years until I got a distillation machine now I can't drink tap water ever again. It's just pure compared to all the fat and shit that accumulates in the system unless you're uprooting hundreds of miles of copper you're drinking literal feces

im just saying its unlikely anywhere in the first world has replaced thousand of miles of copper, its simply unrealistic. I live in a house we built in 2020 so the pipes are new for our post code, but it still feeds from somewhere that hasnt been changed since the 1950s or even longer ! Trust me try a decent distiller and your body will thank you. It may take over an hour per litre but it's just life in a glass. Fun fact, here by the sea is difficult for other plants to grow, soon as I started feeding them distilled water I revived mine and my neighbours garden so well they thought I was buying new plants every month

Why distilled instead of filtered?
I think filter has it's use because it's a lot quicker and on-tap but if you don't mind the extra cost and effort of refilling and cleaning a distiller machine now and again the difference is unbeatable. I don't think you can get any purer than turning steam into water, keep some big containers of water and some smaller ones for the fridge and it's really nice, trust me your body will thank you

I don't know much about the specifics to be honest so I'm unsure but these days does pay to be alittle skeptical. All I can say is it's defintly benefitted me and my family hugely and weird it isn't something thats talked about more.

probably chlorine and fluoride. where i grew up we had the purest tap water in the world and didnt add any fluoride and minimal chlorine so it tastes pure and sweet. im in chicago now and the water here tastes fricking gross but a charcoal filter fixes the taste.

all water you buy from the store is exposed to plastics, so unless you have lead pipes, your tap water is literally exactly the same thing especially if you use a filter
i live out in rural Nebraska, the pipes are still mostly lead or at least galvanized steel, then it is sourced well water with significant minerals in it that don't get all that well filtered out so limescale is a big issue and there is a bad smell to it as it also contains sulfur. if left in a keurig or other device with a water basin over time it will start to show signs of green from algae.
so yeah, i use bottled water
so ultimately this is an issue of people having ancient plumbing that should have been replaced 50 years ago
pretty much, my home is around 110 years or give or take, from what i understand they merely piece together the water pipes instead of replacing it all to a modern standard.
amusingly the pipes leading out of my house are significantly larger than they need to be and are literally stamped "agricultural equipment" i am convinced you could flush a bowling ball down my toilet and never clog it.

I recently swapped my GPU and the residue buildup wasn't pretty but it wasn't that bad either. I'll just have to dissassemble and clean it with some isopropyl and a toothbrush or something before selling or re-installing it into a setup [isopropyl dissolves weed resin/residue chemically]
