To some degree yeah. It's fun to play RoN tactically and as a proper team but going full blown death squad and just mowing down civilians and suspects makes for a good stress reliever if you've been having a series of bad matches. Problem is that it feels like most people would rather do that and it loses its novelty after a while.

The silliest part about this is that the rules of the game aren't fixed to begin with. Every month you might introduce new variables and instead of the game remaining stable and have a good set of rules, you're now faced with a whole new ballgame of jank and people taking advantage of new possible loopholes. You can take something like chess as an example. Castling, passant and the fact that pawns can move two squares on their first turn add a lot of dynamics and gameplay variation that remains interesting. In contrast, if you look at the meta of some of the more popular online games, they do their outmost best to break the rules and find the single winning powerplay, which in turns makes all of the dynamics equally stale. It's especially true in the higher end of the competitive spectrum, where everyone simply picks what is safest and best, instead of playing things and ideas that might evolve into something more coherent over time. The smart man in this case blames the players, while the idiot blames the developer. You either have a functioning set of fun, fair rules that everyone loves or then you have a clusterfrick of veteran players who have made their own pocket universe of shit (Smash etc...)

A few years ago, I played in local YGO tournaments for all of a month. It's cancer when like 15/20 people bring literally the same deck ripped off of reddit. Physical TCGs are unreal. Tabletop Simulator with close friends is literally the only way to enjoy them.
TF2, but only in matchmaking. Something about the long queues and stealth MMR makes people much more willing to run around with Vacc pockets or stack the cart with Heavies and Short Circuit Engineers than they would be otherwise.
A huge issue with a lot of games that use MMR is that players intentionally rank tank then farm wins. Happens all the time in PoGo or Master Duel or anything with rank floors for example especially when there are rewards tied to wins instead of just basic fricking play time (how it should be).
Fortnite is full of homosexuals like this, which is pretty fricking hilarious.

Everyone wants to be good, so they only follow the meta builds. To them, the meta forged by the pros is like a tradition they don't understand. They follow up, without even a basic understanding of why. If you ask them why they are building [x] item on [y] character, they will simply say "because the guide says so". If you ask them why the guide says so, they won't know why. They just "know" it's good because the professional players are using it.
I say this because trying to break the mold and do something unique or off-meta is legitimately considered griefing by the DoTA 2 community now. If you wanted to take a certain character offlane when the meta is to take them mid or safe, you will get reported for griefing. If you want to take a character into the jungle, that's griefing. Instant report. If you want to build Crimson Guard, that's griefing, unless Crimson Guard is the meta, then it's not griefing, but you will probably get reported anyway if you lose. And since the community overwatch feature puts the decision in the hands of players, you will probably get put in low priority simply for trying new things on your own instead of doing exactly what the pros are doing.

How come we've had so many years without a proper fricking 5v5 capture the point ARENA where you just draft against each other then go first to 12 wins by team elimination or point capture. No farming, no items aside from potions and wards, just small scale map control and teamfighting.

Instant auto-riposte is extremely lame.

The way things get settled is pathetic too, constantly grind and then wait for the target to go to bed before leveling thier work while they can't fight back. See having no friends on TF2 made things a lot better for me. I just joined a certain server and fricked around for a long period of time, never got competitive. Of course after a while, I joined a specific group of people, got into a few competitive matches, and fricked up amazingly. We only got where we got because some portuguese fricks tried to cheat their way up and it didn't work out well for them.
They assume you must be hunched over your keyboard, literally sweating, and screaming at every mistake (whereas they are perfectly relaxed, having more fun than you could imagine, and couldn't possibly care about the outcome of the match since they have so much better things going on in their lives as they rant at you over text chat) because the notion that you might be shitting on them while autopiloting and talking with your friends is too much to bear.

Also I don't find myself rage quitting out of single player stuff as often because I can usually quickly reset a mistake. I started playing Fortnite just to have something to do with my nephew and I think I discovered that I simply enjoy playing against lower skilled players. It's just more fun. I don't care of it's less challenging. Winning against a bunch of children who are busy trying to do arbitrary quests that pretty much sabotage their ability to play optimally is very entertaining.
Basically every modern FPS is filled to the brim with adderall-snorting psychopaths treating every single match like a tournament final with multi-million dollar sponsorship deal on the line and it sucks.
When I think back to all the FPS games I played when I was younger I know that even if those games were brought back to life exactly as they were they wouldn't be fun to play anymore because the general FPS playerbase has changed too much.
I often hear those arguments about playing different game than the one where players try to be competitive but why these competition focused players fails to notice that their game was not necessary competitive focused to begin with? Sometimes I just want to have fun and then run into some tryhard player who insist I'm ruining game for him because he and similar guys decided that this game belong to them and only them now. Or b***h about players who move to casual and non-ranked matches/rooms/whatever and away from them. I used to play CS with only pistols for around month but I never did that on ranked matches, I avoided them completely - and yet some people complained. I don't participate in raids in MMO games and rather play with randoms as healer/support and some people complain when I don't want to join guild and use Discord.

What games are there where you can't play suboptimally and win up to all but the highest levels? People reach the highest ranks in fighting games or even make top 8s while playing some of the literal worst characters and people have solo queued to GE in CS just using a deagle. Average or even relatively good players are not only not being forced to copy the meta to have any chance of winning in these games but are often taking advantage of or struggling to deal with things that high level players might barely use.

In the first two games, you'd enter a lobby and your teams would be randomized, even if you were playing with a friend. This was nice and balanced.
Now in 3, if you join a lobby with a friend you will be on their team EVERY TIME. Now you have groups of 2, 3, 4 players in teams roaming around. I don't have an aversion to meta. I have an aversion to meta being played 100% of the time in nonsense modes that don't matter when there are ranked modes available. If I enter Trials of Osiris and get blasted by some hunter with Felwinters or DMT and full meta mobility build, then whatever, that's the mode, I signed up for that shit. But when I go to a fricking control and face 6 people running the same meta guns and builds as Trials it's just sad and annoying. One of the many, many, many reason I stopped playing D2.

If you play ranked, scrubs play against other scrubs and there aren't too many metagays in low ranks. There is no voice chat. You can't blame anything on teammates because there are none, if you play bad, it's your fault. If you played a game against a guy and you didn't like them, you don't have to rematch, and a game takes less than 5 mins. Also I don't really mind losing in those games unless I'm having a huge loss streak, I like fighting and trying to learn my enemy, I feel satisfied in most matches even if I lose, unless I get absolutely pwned. Also most trash talking isn't serious.

'Forced 50' and EOMM is real, high-level streamers and pros in nearly every game with a heavy competitive emphasis will attest that it is real. You just need a coping mechanism to justify staying in whatever ranked rat maze you're currently addicted to (which is by developer design, btw).

How is this game praised for being a shooter that focuses on strategy/tactics yet you can't switch between playing defensively and offensively on a whim. Plus it's obviously boring as frick to play/stay at the same angles for the duration of the entire match, which is between half and hour to an entire hour.

Reminds me of the time I played Brutal Legend. After I finished the campaign I took to the multiplayer and got squished by a guy who understood unit summoning far better than me and basically marched my army into the dirt, regardless of what I threw. The silliest part about this is that the rules of the game aren't fixed to begin with. Every month you might introduce new variables and instead of the game remaining stable and have a good set of rules, you're now faced with a whole new ballgame of jank and people taking advantage of new possible loopholes. You can take something like chess as an example. Castling, passant and the fact that pawns can move two squares on their first turn add a lot of dynamics and gameplay variation that remains interesting. In contrast, if you look at the meta of some of the more popular online games, they do their outmost best to break the rules and find the single winning powerplay, which in turns makes all of the dynamics equally stale. It's especially true in the higher end of the competitive spectrum, where everyone simply picks what is safest and best, instead of playing things and ideas that might evolve into something more coherent over time. The smart man in this case blames the players, while the idiot blames the developer. You either have a functioning set of fun, fair rules that everyone loves or then you have a clusterfrick of veteran players who have made their own pocket universe of shit (Smash etc...)

They follow up, without even a basic understanding of why. If you ask them why they are building [x] item on [y] character, they will simply say "because the guide says so". If you ask them why the guide says so, they won't know why. They just "know" it's good because the professional players are using it.
I say this because trying to break the mold and do something unique or off-meta is legitimately considered griefing by the DoTA 2 community now. If you wanted to take a certain character offlane when the meta is to take them mid or safe, you will get reported for griefing. If you want to take a character into the jungle, that's griefing. Instant report. If you want to build Crimson Guard, that's griefing, unless Crimson Guard is the meta, then it's not griefing, but you will probably get reported anyway if you lose. And since the community overwatch feature puts the decision in the hands of players, you will probably get put in low priority simply for trying new things on your own instead of doing exactly what the pros are doing.

It's actually kind of understandable why ASShomosexualS players act like this and it is because a single moron can hold 4 other people hostage for upwards of 30 min, more if they are extremely unlucky.
The game just sucks design wise since you can't leave or you'd get punished since that would ruin the game for everyone else and if you could leave the same morons that holds people hostage would leave 5-10 min into a winnable game just because they didn't get what they want out of the match.

I started playing Fortnite just to have something to do with my nephew and I think I discovered that I simply enjoy playing against lower skilled players. It's just more fun. You have to let me beat you but in a way that feels like I earned it without ever being frustrating.
I often hear those arguments about playing different game than the one where players try to be competitive but why these competition focused players fails to notice that their game was not necessary competitive focused to begin with? Sometimes I just want to have fun and then run into some tryhard player who insist I'm ruining game for him because he and similar guys decided that this game belong to them and only them now. Or b***h about players who move to casual and non-ranked matches/rooms/whatever and away from them. I used to play CS with only pistols for around month but I never did that on ranked matches, I avoided them completely - and yet some people complained. I don't participate in raids in MMO games and rather play with randoms as healer/support and some people complain when I don't want to join guild and use Discord.

It's not only matter of getting good but also the fact that you have to play most optimal way possible that these tryhards dictate or otherwise you don't stand a change, i want to play game my way and not forced to the only 1 optimal way that every tryhards do, i mean what there is to even learn when you just copy what other tryhards are doing and get bored when there is only 1 or 2 ways to play game and 50 other play styles are just sub optimal and therefore those don't exist. What games are there where you can't play suboptimally and win up to all but the highest levels? People reach the highest ranks in fighting games or even make top 8s while playing some of the literal worst characters and people have solo queued to GE in CS just using a deagle. Average or even relatively good players are not only not being forced to copy the meta to have any chance of winning in these games but are often taking advantage of or struggling to deal with things that high level players might barely use.

I don't have an aversion to meta. I have an aversion to meta being played 100% of the time in nonsense modes that don't matter when there are ranked modes available. If I enter Trials of Osiris and get blasted by some hunter with Felwinters or DMT and full meta mobility build, then whatever, that's the mode, I signed up for that shit. But when I go to a fricking control and face 6 people running the same meta guns and builds as Trials it's just sad and annoying. One of the many, many, many reason I stopped playing D2.

I got to LEM in CS:GO once, any other player you encounter after MG1 is a fricking tryhard wannabe pro with 3000h who is going to sweat over anything and mentally rage quit after doing bad in a couple of rounds. This might be a weird take but that's why I think 1v1 fighting games are the least toxic out there. If you play ranked, scrubs play against other scrubs and there aren't too many metagays in low ranks. There is no voice chat. You can't blame anything on teammates because there are none, if you play bad, it's your fault. If you played a game against a guy and you didn't like them, you don't have to rematch, and a game takes less than 5 mins. Also I don't really mind losing in those games unless I'm having a huge loss streak, I like fighting and trying to learn my enemy, I feel satisfied in most matches even if I lose, unless I get absolutely pwned. Also most trash talking isn't serious.

On one hand, the new standard of one-click automatic matchmaking and giving players a little e-peen "rank" that they're terrified of losing is an absolute cancer that has categorically sucked all the fun out of competitive team games. How is this game praised for being a shooter that focuses on strategy/tactics yet you can't switch between playing defensively and offensively on a whim.
