the game is a funny little experiment in my eyes, you are expected to do a neutral route first then everything after that is a test of how far you are willing to go to wring all the content you can out of the game.
but in the case of a murderer, there is a good chance he'll start on a no-mercy route (not necessarily genocide, but every ENCOUNTERED monster is killed.)
flowey at the end will guide him to a neutral-pacifist route, then to the true pacifist route.
at this point the murderer maybe, just maybe, will feel a little different about his stance on killing.
maybe he'll feel an attachment to a character, maybe somebody will remind him of a friend. as long as that attachment isnt to napstablook then this half can lead to the second.
eventually the murderer will get bored of pacifist and neutral. eventually the murderer will try a genocide route and have to kill everybody. including whoever it is that he's grown attached to. it is in his nature to kill after all so a genocide route shouldnt be too hard, right?
but then he'll get to the battle scene with his favorite character. lets say its papyrus.
he'll be right there, progress one hit away...
and he'll feel like shit. he'll finally see what he's been doing to others.
he'll realize that he has been a flowey in real life.
he'll realize that he's taken other peoples toriels, papyruses, and undynes (family, friends, and heros). what he feels right now is just a fraction of what people related to his vicitims felt.
