Back in my days showderp would suggest a mon with no set and let the champ decide what to do with it. Maybe give it a promt such as "special/physical" but that's it. Mememons evolved naturally.
I'd say dexit also played a part in things. because of it smogon split their meta into "gen 9" and "gen 9 natdex" less people play on natdex so champ will face the same opponents at times but if we play on gen 9 normal suggestors are more limited in what Pokémon they can suggest.
vague suggs are annoying when you get a full team of them. makes team building take forever. i'd rather get a sugg that's "finish the set" or something along those lines. give me something to work with.

I, for one, am down for Showderp to be a thing for the weekend. We did that for a while and it was actually alive.
I used to love to champ but half the experience is interacting with other users and a talkative setting where everyones talking about the battle or at least talking to each other. I get its not supposed to be a social club, but everyones so disconnected from each other and content to babble to themselves during the battles and thread, it's honestly off-putting for everyone. Not to mention the long down times between champs and short champ sessions.
Again, im down for only weekend showderps. That way everyone can focus on just a few days of showderp and the chances of an actually active thread will be much higher because of it. The forever-long method we have now just doesnt cut it now as most of the time is simply spent waiting.
I really do think having it be a weekend only endeavor would see a lot more success. Right now people wander in and out far too much because of the inactivity spells, causing, there, hardly to be a big gathering at any one time. Keeping it scarce and on a schedule, again, would be a good play. Or at least, something different to try.

Gen 9 has also been an awful gen for Showderp due to the massive amounts of powercreep. This fricking downy fish wrecks havoc on unprepared teams.

I always figure champs have some go to saved mons they can use if I suggest something like "food mon". Is that not the case?
I do have a lot of sets saved. I just tend to build them from scratch unless I have absolutely no idea.
