What happened to songs in video games? If you go back to the 5th/6th gen, almost every game regardless of the genre had an iconic as frick song (of course zoomers don't know a single one lol) that was a big part of a game's identity

Music licenses expire and you can't buy the frickers anymore.
This 5/6 gen you could get licenses easily and for cheap because nobody gave a frick about videogames. Post Modern Warfare 2 that went out the window.
I want it back bros.
moron
And to add GTA6 will no doubt have a metric ton of licensed music per usual.
>zoomers can't even imagine a song for a game that's original and not just some licensed shit
Makes sense for the age of memberberry where in all these walking sims you hear a famous song start playing on radio
What license? These were all original songs made for the games.
because licensing Radioactive by imagine dragons is less expensive than hiring a good singer and a songwriter. If the license expires just put nothing in there, noone is gonna notice
das rite
Budget and a belief that you don't need it. You see it in Hollywood too just look at the star wars sequels. They had John Williams and just told him to make generic action soundtracks instead of letting him work like he did in the OT and PT.
Great question cause alan woke OST SUUUCKS compared to first game

Seeing it as a whole was even better. This was literally the most amazing thing in the world when it came out.
This intro does not frick around. I also like that scene with Auron being pulled into Sin with Tidus. However I will always associate Otherworld with that big monster punch that Jecht hits Tidus with when he transforms in the finale.
The greatest thing about it is that it's not even an intro. There's like 15 minutes of gameplay before you even get to this part and the game opens entirely in-engine, making this sequence a true shocker. A lesser studio would have used this mind blowing state-of-the-art cinematic as the first thing you see in the game but Squaresoft was at such peak of human existence at that point in time, everyone in the world knew they are the best so they didn't even need this showing off.
Ironically the big love song of the game is probably the weakest of the golden era.
I hate songs in videogames and movies, they suck
