COD MW2 came out halfway thru the 360 lifespan and while Halo 3 was mostly unshaken, Reach killed the franchise due to how bad the maps were and how many fundamental changes to the core mechanics they made, like the oppressive bloom mechanics, etc.
Proof they just derped it up is when 343 took over and made a "Classic" playslist based around the Halo1 CE remake and they removed bloom, and the fame felt exactly like all old Halos. >prob the only good move 343 ever did.
343 after has just shit the bed, they should've never been allowed to keep it this long..
Ironically, 343 is sitting on a fricking potential rebirth of the Halo series in Infinite's PvP multiplayer, but they have such an overwhelming SBMM system in place they no one wants to play, and even despite a bump at the launch of firefight, the game lost it all again because of SBMM.

Xbox was never a strong brand outside of the USA, and even in the USA only the 360 generation ever had any serious traction; and that's because Microsoft effectively owned the Online PvP FPS space until MS went all "TV TV TV TV TV" with the xbone.
Halo, on the other hand, was only strong due to Xbox live being the first to market online FPS series. COD MW2 came out halfway thru the 360 lifespan and while Halo 3 was mostly unshaken, Reach killed the franchise due to how bad the maps were and how many fundamental changes to the core mechanics they made, like the oppressive bloom mechanics, etc.
Proof they just derped it up is when 343 took over and made a "Classic" playslist based around the Halo1 CE remake and they removed bloom, and the fame felt exactly like all old Halos.

Ironically, 343 is sitting on a fricking potential rebirth of the Halo series in Infinite's PvP multiplayer, but they have such an overwhelming SBMM system in place they no one wants to play, and even despite a bump at the launch of firefight, the game lost it all again because of SBMM.
