What happened to the pureblooded oldschool RPG genre? You know the one where the units are actually not a barely perceptible smudge on the screen in an overly detailed 3D view?

That’s a RTS game homosexual
Yeah I mean RTS
Nice thread butthole
Anyway the usual responses are zoomers can't into RTS, sweaty RTS players click 200 times per second just to be able to compete, asshomosexuals replaced RTS etc.
Zoomers are technologically impaired morons
The first generation to be worst at computers than the previous one
I am ever so thankful to be on that intergenerational gap, and not deep in the zoomer gen. Dodged a fricking bullet by the tip of my fick.
You got Loria. It's a free game inspired by Warcraft 2.
I'll give it a whirl
It's that the one that looks like a mix of Warcraft 2 and 3? Tried the campaign and it bored me almost immediately. If you're going to ape a game known for its great story, you better have a worthwhile story yourself
Why are you turning Ganker into a den of lies.
Why are you trying to use Steam tags to prove something? They'll slap anything on there, regardless of whether it's true. Just look at the metroidvania tag
Just wait
That actually looks pretty fricking good. Color me impressed.
3D happened and newer 'artists' have no understanding of the importance of visual clarity for RTS. Enjoy your slop.
Not sure how I feel about the XBOXHUEG vehicles, but otherwise it looks cool so far.
The bombs the battleship dropped looked a bit goofy

>game called Dorf
>not about village life
Reminds me of KKND mixed with Total Annihilation
Pandering to esports Black folk killed them
The average player just wants to play a comfy campaign
>The average player just wants to play a comfy campaign
100% this. Also LAN parties with custom rules
This
>Buy out and ruin Westwood
>Release game with surprisingly good campaign.
>Multiplayer games dominated by rush tactics
>Nerf tiberium to slow things down.
>In single player too
>Campaign now unreasonably hard
>Fricking Croatia
I had no idea, but I do remember trying the campaign and finding it really slow and boring. I guess hat's why. Found this mod that's supposed to fix it: https://www.moddb.com/mods/cnc-3-original-campaign-balance-patch
Lol delusional spBlack person.
Most people who play RTS play with friends against AI in skirmish maps.
>against AI
You just proved his point: no-one cares about competitive balance. Playing against the AI, especially in co-op, is a vastly different experience to ranked games, and it's only in ranked games that *competitive* balance matters
He claimed people played RTS only for the campaign.
But you beat the campaign in few hours and spend 100 hours playing against the AI with friends.
No RTS is worth it's full price just for campaign.
I have 230 hours in AOE2 that's purely playing the campaigns.
He also mentioned esports balance, which is what I honed in on. My bad, I should have been more clear. Either way, I think of the campaign and vs.-AI skirmishes as very much a separate aspect to the competitive multiplayer side of things, and yet il most modern devs seen to focus entirely on the multiplayer. The result is frequently a very stale, repetitive casual experience and a boring or non-existent campaign
>No RTS is worth it's full price just for campaign.
I disagree. See SC, WC3 and Homeworld
>But you beat the campaign in few hours
lol
lmao even
Spamming shitton of units and commanding wast armies to slaughter is more fun than going around with smaller parties. Fight me.
That was Cossack's whole selling point. Kino
Always liked American Conquest more. I mean it's just spin-off of Cossaks, but I like the setting more.
frick dune was so good
How come indies can't make a good RTS?
RTS are dead except StarCraft 1 in South Korea.
When was the last time you have bought an indie rts?
HARKONNEN ARRIVED FIRST
THE WEAK ATREIDES WILL BE EASY
THE ORDOS ARE COMING CLOSER
Maybe they should have switched the genre over to rts coop. Nobody likes to play against sweat lords, and I can imagine that the casual masses only can get stomped as much before they drop the game and genre for good.
>esports Black person thinks ANYONE played online, ever
We aren't sweating, zoomies just need to git gud, unironically. Just because I can issue >120 orders in any given minute for up to an hour if needed doesn't make me a sweaty. For me this is casual fun. I don't even use the minimap. It is years of RTS experience that you don't have which is why your are going to get stomped.
The sad fact is that most you you kids don't have the patience, discipline or mental fortitude to become an RTS ranked player, even a mediocre one, like me. In a 1v1 RTS match there is a winner and a loser. And you are going to rack up a lot of L's before your start to have the GG's. But you have too much ego to suffer at the feet of your betters so that one day you might experience the thrill of fighting in competitive 1v1 RTS battles, the only form of gaming that is actually worthwhile.
Age of Mythology Retold WHEN?
Plus, story-rich doesn't mean that the story is good
Age of Empires 4 releases fairly recently.
I only enjoyed Red Alert because of the hot chicks in the FMVs.
The FMV were like nice treats every time you completed a mission.
It was a good way of structuring those RTS games.
A fellow Tanya enjoyer
Why has there been so many butthurt RTS threads recently? They've always been a thing but it would normally be once a week or so afaik and I've seen at least 3 in the last 48 hours
They are just as uppity as arena gays. I'm not surprised that the genre died and nobody is going to revitalise it. All games have failed due to an unreasonable barrier of comp gays sabotaging the game for anyone else. That's if they even gave the game a fair chance.
Where can I get Dune 2000? Can’t find it on steam
It's abandon ware. Find a download somewhere and play it through OpenRA
This isn't unique to RTS nor RPGs. Clarity in visual design is practically forgotten in this era. It's why every game needs a fricking button to highlight intractable objects now. Graphics are just a bunch of noise on the screen.
Fact: The best Rts games also have the best music.
>Terran 2
Best rts games also have the best intros. And it doesn't get better than this:
Top comfy
OG starcraft had such a kino vibe.
Thought for sure you'd post Battle on the Amerigo
Kino cinematic
>mfw when Hell March kicks in
Why mister president, whatever do you mean?
Say what you will about RA 3 but I enjoyed it's intro tremendously
Japan, Scrin, Yuri. Which is the best later introduced C&C faction? Not counting Generals because all the three factions there are the same old.
Yuri > Scrin > Japan
>mind control, aircraft that looks like goofy ufos, mutants?
>yes, please
I find japan to be cringe-corny
>xdddd walking giant robots and soldiers with lightsabers
>just like in one of my anime movies
RA3 tries way too HARD
I genuinely enjoyed the Scrin. Their campaign was fun and they were interesting to play.
I fricking hated the foundation mechanic
>You know the one where the units are actually not a barely perceptible smudge on the screen in an overly detailed 3D view?
They died out because the joy of RTS was always in scale. Why the frick would I play a game like you described over something like Wargame or Supcom?
The number of people too stupid for real strategy games but also smart enough to play RTS at all was very few.
Several of the good (old) RTS games are still played online in multiplayer. There's many (old) RTS games that you haven't tried which are worth the time. What more do you want?
Despite that, there's still things to look forward to that have clarity: https://youtu.be/17jlpeBuUVI
wanted to ask in a steam sale thread but i'll do it here
any newer single player focused rts worth getting? i mean, do they even exist?
ok, might as well go back to the past.
any indies perhaps? or is it too hard of a genre to make for them?
>any indies perhaps? or is it too hard of a genre to make for them?
Most of them seem to be still in early access. I'm looking at The Fertile Crescent, but they haven't yet implemented campaign.
Oh wait, you said newer. Then I don't know. I liked the demo of that new Star Troopers rts and I recon AoE4 isn't bad but I haven't played it. It got documentary style campaigns and it's not my thing.
Zero K is alright
Company of heroes is good
that's the most modern RTS I can think of, that one with the mechs looked cool but it's actually really shite, same with CTA
Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition has shitton of content, campaigns and such. Even without dlcs. Also active multiplayer base.
