WHAT IF: Gen

How would you imagine the third gen games if they stayed faithful to the first 2 generations, and not some kind of reboot?
These are the first things that pop into my mind:

- Legendaries going back to being side quests and a reward of exploration, and not the core element of the plot. Legends, indeed, and not increasingly strong monsters acting in the public eye.

- Antagonists that don't have to be clones of Team Rocket calling themselves "team+something." Either continue with the Team Rocket story, or think of something new.

- Just pokémon that maintain the minimal, caricatured style of previous generations, without too much detail.

- Real animals existing in the storyline and dialogues of the game, just as you can find grass pokemon along with real trees and vegetation.

- Real-world references. The pokémon world continues to remain the real world, with the variation of the mysterious arrival of pokémon in ancient times, which altered some events. Not a world magically created by a pokémon as it has become over the years.

- Appearances of characters from past generations, with plot references from previous games.

I did, when the games came out, what about you? Make an argument

Are you blind? Half the gen 2 dex has random patterns drawn on them like togepi or houndooms skull and bones. Those aren't minimally detailed designs.
        >real life references
Already on the way out in gen 2.

Yes, even gen 1 has pokemon like that. Further proving that gen 3 wasn't some egregious shift.

It's very silly to try and claim that an artstyle doesn't change over time, especially in a case like Pokemon where they don't even have the same people working on each batch of new designs. I have no idea why Pokemon fans like to pretend this is the case, there's some sort of weird insecurity where they chafe under the idea that older designs and newer designs are different

There's very clearly a different design philosophy between Gens 1-2 and Gen 3, just like there is between Gen 3 and Gen 5, or Gen 5 and Gen 9. This distinction is very clearly what OP is talking about, and your weird insecurity about it is obfuscating the point

It's not weird to think you're overreacting morons that cherry pick every example you use.

Are you implying that there were no real-world references in Gen 2 games?

Then Hoenn would be as neglected and despised as Johto is. The entire reason for Gen 3 being a reboot was because how much everyone hated Gen 2 for being Gen 1’s expansion pack. At least that’s the only explanation I can come up with and why game freak hates Johto yet loves Hoeen so much.

The explanation is that you're autistic and overly invested in your headcanon.

Regardless of whether you hate Johto or not because of the strong connection with Kanto, in my opinion there are many elements that could have been preserved to maintain some sort of consistency with the previous games.

may I ask how do you explain in the current canon why the continents and nations of the pokémon world have pretty much the same conformation as those of ours, despite having a completely different genesis? Did Arceus look at our world and make a copy of it, asking Regigigas to move the continents to simulate our world? I don't find the sense in this, really.

Also, since animals no longer exist in the pokémon world, why for example is Teddiursa called "little bear pokémon" in the pokedex? If they don't have the comparison to the animal kingdom, what is the point of these mentions to animals? (and if they are references to species, why aren't the species based on the pokemon names, if there are only them?)

This would be an improvement in all aspects, but a game's creative direction isn't as fungible as you're making it out to be

This image just illustrates how badly designed towns are. It made sense in 2D for the towns to be tiny, but there's no excuse for a 3D game to have "towns" made up of a few houses and a pokemon center.

I had the most fun with Silver but I like all first 4 gens equally.

I didnt like BW that much when it was out but retrospectively, it was a good game especially compared to the garbage we've been getting since gen 6

It's called changing your mind and reconsidering your position. The flaws that I didnt like back then dont make BW a bad game.
