I considered myself a lore freak at one time for Halo and I never saw anything that referenced exactly how far from Earth any of the game's story took place besides the location of the Ark and I think a fan map of the positions of the Halo rings which from memory means only one of the two Halos we visit could have been in the Orion arm, if that map was accurate. It may have been based on that map visual from the end of Halo 2 as well which would give it some credibility.

To be fair he's not wrong about some of the expectations of AAA software getting extremely hard to meet. The sheer number of platforms you have to deploy a game to at the moment for instance is absurd.

The audience expecting better and better graphics is the biggest culpable.
Ganker is also guilty of this, every time a trailer has an ugly tree, or a weird model, everyone goes into an autistic bild rage.
Studios have to hire houndreds of people just for the graphics, which means less focus on what actually matters, like gameplay, writing, design etc etc.

It's pretty telling that we're two years into the new hardware cycle and the only big budget next gen exclusive of any note is Ratchet & Clank, which has been out for something like a year and a half. It's a very pretty game, Insomniac do great work. But they're the only people doing this particular work.
I think we're reaching the point that until the tools to generate content improve significantly, the hardware is going to outpace the practicality of actually taking advantage of it.
