No one I know with a PS5, including me, is buying this. Although some uninformed morons may buy this thinking it's a PSP or something.

The PSVR2 also didn't even sell well.

The PSVR2 was a masterclass in being a fricking moron
          >"Hey we made a VR headset for PlayStation that doesn't rely on the fricking PS Move"
          >"You still can't use it on your PC and furthermore you can't play any of your old PSVR games despite some really good titles being exclusive to it that could use the new tech and hardware to be optimized"
          >"That'll be $500"
Iron Man VR, a former PSVR exclusive runs better on the fricking Quest 2 than it ever did on its original platform and yet it never occurred to Jim Ryan to have some kind of backwards compatibility especially when the game that literally spurned the end of JapanStudio for their company to replace with Team Asobi was ALSO a PSVR exclusive.

i would unironically be excited if they added wii u-like functionality for the ps5, with the second screen able to show different stuff from what's on the TV. asymmetrical couch multiplayer is great.
for 200 bucks though? no fricking way lmao

I can already see all the kids and uninformed people buying this shit because they think it's a portable PS5 and getting apeshit angry when they realise they need a PS5 in the room for this thing to work

They're thinking "let's rip off the switch because it's completely raping us in sales"

  6. 10 months ago
    Anonymous

Jim Ryan wanted to try and rip off Nintendo but because portable console graphics are bad, he ripped off the Wii U instead because "Now good PS5 graffix can be in your hands". To differentiate it he also made it so you require proprietary headphones for it, made the battery life dogshit (DuelSense battery life), and made it so you require a constant wifi connection on the same network as your PS5 to use it.

Anon you don't seem to understand, this thing is a Remote Play machine, you can't play it on a train. You NEED to be on the same wifi network as your PS5 in order to use it.

            Anonymous

I choose not to understand because I don't particularly care about the sony switch

I really doubt it can handle streaming like that in a decent way. Especially in a subway or train.

            idk I bet they can

Anon, it's not even a Switch, it's a fricking Wii U gamepad with worse battery life, less functionality and a $200 price tag

                Anonymous

now now, the wii u gamepad only lasted like 3 hours source is i have one and it sucks. this is supposed to last at least 6 so that's already a mondo win. dont deny fax just cuz its a snoy thing lolololol

I really doubt it. Even when they advertise this what they talk about mostly is using it at home, because it doesn't need to be just fast. For a good exp the connection also has to be stable. And the best experience for that is is being close to the actual PS5, preferably on the same network.

i can imagine using it to copy and delete games while taking a dump (not really i just bring my phone to the toilet)

                >"at least six"
More like "at most six" because this thing is gunning for DualSense battery life which means 3-4 hours of play more realistically and that's just connecting to wifi and streaming, fricking thing doesn't even have Bluetooth. If you really need Remote Play for your PS5, you're better off getting a Backbone for your phone and if using a portable DualSense is really your big sell, a fricking controller clip for your phone would probably work better than this stupid thing and not cost $200

If you had to upgrade from an old tv or your new one broke you would get a 3DTV out of necessity if it was on sale and even then people would just get a regular LCD but that gimmick never grew on anyone.

        Anonymous

It is a 32 inch Playstation branded TV that came with 2 pairs of clunky 3D glasses and a Motorstorm game. The idea was that splitscreen was a thing of the past and that each person would have a full screen to play on using the same unit. A cool use case for it, buy they never factored in that people don't just sit straight in front of the TV and don't move the entire time.
The irony is it now has my Switch, Google TV, and XboneX plugged into it on my work desk.
I bought it open box at a best buy I worked at back then for $70 afew months after they went on sale and it's been working ever since.
We never got a regular 3D TV, this was a weird outlier.

In a lot of companies to get promoted you have to come up with an idea. Which how you get things like Stadia, Google Glass, or this probably. It creates an incentive for bad ideas.

I wonder if it'll have access to the android backend it's running on.
If so, it'll probably be a solid emulation device.
If not, it'll be a complete shitheap since to my knowledge you won't even be able to usb-c to usb-c it into a real ps5, it's JUST for wi-fi streaming.

      Anonymous

      >If so, it'll probably be a solid emulation device.
you think so? you can find handheld shit that can emulate ps2/wii for less than 200$ these days, this thing is built for streaming so I doubt the specs will be crazy

        Anonymous

You can find handheld shit that can emulate PAL shit with regular drops to ~40 FPS (with frameskip) for under $200. You're looking at $250/300 used note10+ as a baseline for reasonable NTSC performance for ps2/wii/gc games.
I'm not htinking in terms of that though, I'm thinking as just a gen 5 and below device. For that I guess you could get like a retroid 2s or something, but I like the form factor of the ps controller so I think I'd rather just spend the money on this since that $99 pricepoint quickly balloons up to $200 with shipping.

So convinced that having no games is fine and that the Wii/Switch are only selling better because of waggle/portability
