I've only played hearthstone when it came out and magic arena, they are both fun but arena becomes unplayable really fast if you want to keep up with a meta unless you want to spend top dollar. Hearthstone at least let you dust cards, arena's pricing is legit atrocious 10 euros for 4 fricking rare wildcards like what the frick lmao
Vraska is my waifu.
Too bad. Vraska got Elesh Norn's and took her husbando Jace with her.
Its painfully obvious being compleated is reversible in some way. They made it too obvious with converting so many iconic characters at once.
card games are in such a shit state atm
hearthstone was casual fun until blizzard balancing and moneymaking kicked in
there used to be a physical bastion in paper magic but the game went to shit because of wotc-hasbro's shitty practices
maybe one day there will be a successor to magic that can match the feeling of the old game
magic arena being rigged will kill wotc, without a fair shuffler or pro play magic is just a paypig circlejerk
bo3 doesnt have a rigged shuffler as far as I recall
What's this about a rigged shuffler?
Does the shuffle try to distribute cards in a certain way to avoid people getting angry at mana floods or droughts?
in bo1 the shuffler basically draws two hands and gives you the one that corresponds the closest to your decks curve
I see, kind of a shadow mulligan then. If it occurs for both players I guess it's at least fair but it probably shouldn't be in the game at all.
Basically WotC admitting Magic is flawed on a fundamental level. Most card games fixed this flaw by instituting proper mulligans, where you ditch specific cards you don’t want and replace that amount. Mulliganing in Magic feels awful; ditch your entire hand, draw a new shitty hand - 1 card. I play paper magic and get pissed on a daily basis by getting land screwed, both ways. They needed to have this invisible mulligan system to compete, since they’re not the only card game around anymore, and have been for a long time.
>Most card games fixed this flaw by instituting proper mulligans, where you ditch specific cards you don’t want and replace that amount.
What card games do this other than Vanguard and Weiss?
runeterra is fricking dead
i loved this game but the devs are fricking clowns who introduce such massive powercreep that you HAVE to play the latest champions or you can't win a single game
the last few expansions have killed my will to play completely
huh? I'm playing a beta Elise deck and one of the earliest lurk decks still to this day, making masters the past 4 seasons without issue
This is literally not true at all.
I play just about every digital card game on the market and LoR probably has the healthiest meta out of all of them despite its many other flaws.
>Make a hearthstone clone (which is just a pseudo clone of mtg)
>It dies
Couldn't have seen that coming. Yugioh was the only one smart enough to try to be unique I guess, that game has a lot of problems but at least its still alive and will likely never die unless konami just goes bankrupt.
Eternal is good PvP.
Runeterra is good PvE.
Redpill me about runeterra PvE please
Early Hearthstone was peak kino card game. The community was great too. Too bad Blizz barely ever added anything other than more cards until it was too late. By the time they added a new class most people had lost interest already. Explorers League was the best expansion btw.
what have hearthstone players moved on to?
Got sucked back into Hearthstone, and for all the flaws it is still better than Runeterra or Shadowverse, but it feels half dead at this point. At least Battlegrounds is reasonable.
I highly recommend Marvel Snap.
It's pretty much Gwent combined with Poker.
You had me at Gwent. Will give it a go.
stopped playing MTGA like a month ago,cant bother to play everyday to make a little gold
Magic battle of the planewalkers was great for each edition, each set was carefully picked so you could play a large amount of strategies for the small set. Magic arena however is kind of a train wreck.
If you want to do a digital ccg that is fun you need limited sets with limited scope. Power cards are cool, but in a digital format you have less control over the decks you play against so instead of emulating casual magic, matchmaking plays like your local fnm but 9/10 people are using meta decks with the optimal cards. It is just draining after a while and is the reason I don't do fnm anyways.
Idk about any other major digital card games, but card city nights 1+2 are a lot of fun, if a bit simple. They try to recreate the pokemon card games progression and game structure and it does a good job of it.
>dumb gacha shit
the worst shit is that the morons just copypaste decks like fricking npcs
I ditched MTGA for physical recently, the underlying game design behind draft is just enthralling to me so I'm gonna design a cube
Based. I've been a draft Chad and already have a cube.
The other ways of playing magic just pale in comparison.
Always get ruined by power creep sooner or later because there is too much motive to make new explosive cards constantly.
I really like card games and prefer playing digital ones ones because it automates all the math and overhead. That said I can't stand the way cards are unlocked generally. The idea of paying any sort of money to unlock digital cards replaces me, in game currency is tolerable but I think ideally I'd like if new sets just unlocked cards universally over time.
Like all commons and some uncommons the first week of release, all uncommons and some rares the second and so on.
Hearthstone's gone downhill ever since Knights of the Frozen Throne.
That being said, I would bang Lich Jaina and Undead Valeera
why is she in her underwear when she's in the freezing cold?
She's already a frozen corpse?
making my own one, aiming to release this year, it'll be cool
get back to work, Reynad.
>implying his one will release ever let alone this year
>vajaina
They’re always fun at first when everyone has the access to the same cards but once expansions come out it’s pay-to-win. I wish I played more of hearthstone when it first came out
hearthstone rapidly became unplayable because board swarm aggro with tons of burn doesn't exist anymore, same exact shit with mtg
everything became midrange/ "control" mirrors aka "who can put the largest number of bomb rares than win the game by themsleves in their deck"
The current MTGA standard metagame is getting there. Currently in tier 1 you have White-Blue Soldiers for aggro, Blue-Red Powerstones as a control option to dunk on midrange decks, and several 3-color midrange decks.
w/u soldiers is basically another midrange deck that never runs out of cards but can't burn you out, i don't even think it has any anthem effects
for anthems there's In the Trenches and also this guy
>A 3/2 flier for 2 with an upside is just fine now
Excuse me?
is this standard meta? Never seen this useless drop
>It's 2 mana Delver except it comes pre-flipped
?!?!
I HAVE OPINIONS
Vanguard Zero: Out of 24 clans, it's a 3 clan game and devs are actively nerfing any clan that challenges their top 3 or can field a competitive deck without URs.
Shadowverse: Current meta is a bit stale but has good onboarding and will hand you enough to compete for free
Teppen: Dead as frick in America but decent play in Europe and Asia. Has the best onboarding I've ever seen and the starter decks are comp decks with at least 6 wrong cards and can win you games against everyone except top level players. Also matches are 6 minutes max and it has a match replay feature that lets you steal decks. So good but so dead
Marvel Snap: Fun short games, but the worst monetization I've ever seen. For all it's buzz I can't shake the feeling that one day it'll just disappear like it was swallowed by the earth.
Master Duel: It's the best way to play Yugioh from 6 months ago
Duel Links: FRICK NO
LoR+Hearthstone: These two merge together in my mind as a nice goo, with the big difference being Hearthstone enforces whaling to compete more than LoR but both of these games I just stop having fun way before I hit top tiers.
MtGA: It's okay.
Gwent: First game I ever played where it was "do nothing and win" taugh me a lot about tempo, beautiful game wish more people played it.
Onmyouji: I hate the Chinese.
meh, but I haven't played many
>some mtg game on ps3(?)
pretty sure it was just regular mtg stuff, got it just because I wanted to play some but didn't last long
>gwent
played a lot during close and open beta, left when they bombed it with the midwinter update that turned it into the current game. Finally went back to check it out and it did manage to suck about 50 hours out of me, it seemed to be in a lot better state at least.
For me it's YGO
I thought Elder Scrolls Legends was aight but it got no traction and died
the problem was when they didnt see growth with the first xpac and immediately doubled down on the hearthstone rng and power creep that just alienated the people that already liked it
Fun, but always devolve into shameless net decking homosexualry
Metas can be fun to deal with and create situations you couldnt have without. You can have the best of both worlds by making two games modes : Ranked, and casual. Some people may play in casual with meta netdecked decks, but they MMR should increase accordingly, so at worse it will be a decent player with a shit deck VS shit player with a top tier deck. Beating a top tier deck with a shit deck can be it's own fun.
The problem is that people who makes card games do not know how to make video games so systems can be abused very easily, like conceding to lower your MMR on purpose. It shouldn't be a problem with a decent video game.
A game with a good design, with enoguh card diversity should have so much things that are viable that meta shouldn't be a huge problem.
Problem is most card games (all really) have pretty serviceable/mediocre design and often go back to some rotation with only recent set available as their games are too messy to keep all cards. Part reason is also greedy editors/devs who ruin their own games on purpose to make money. The fact that people stil play games like Hearthstone or Magic in 2022 is a miracle to me.
MTGA and MTGO have consumed my life
I should've listen to people who said Magic is like crack, I can't stop playing, winning feels so good
I'm not big into PVP card games because I don't like adapting to metas. I like SP card games though and experimenting.
edh is really fun
I really liked gwent but they are way to slow with bringing in new cards.
Currently playing marvel snap which is surprisingly decent and has less p2w than fricking mtg.
infinity wars is back on steam, planning to check that out.
I really wanna get into a game long time again, but mtg is dead to me and I'm not autistic or weeb enough to play ygo or pokemans
>and has less p2w than fricking mtg.
I mean mtgo. frick that shit, at least let me trade cards again you greedy Black folk
>Currently playing marvel snap which is surprisingly decent and has less p2w than fricking mtg.
Let me know you're in pool 2 without saying you're in pool 2. Don't worry, Leech-Leader graciously await you.
You know gwent is ending official support in september right? After that no new cards and balance will be done by the community
Yu-gi-oh Master Duel
I wish someone remastered this bad boy.
Some autist updated the game with newer sets. He sperged out and deleted all his builds. Try searching /vr/ archives and you can find most of the updated versions.
I wish for a remake as well. Or at least a gog version that cleans up this beautiful mess of a game. Higher resolution, fix the blinky/crashy menus etc.
Play Cryptid instead
>mtg colors
Into the trash it goes.
i do!
>mothman
>is visibly not a moth
no
of of this 3 cards only vraska was ever good in golgari tempo.
MTG:A and LoR are both quiet nice since you can interact with oponent(instants in MTG and playing action for action in LoR)Currently enjoying reanimator with this homie from pic in historic. Shadoverse is boring, hearthstone is slot machine garbage.
Liked duel of champions but it died
I dislike them because they all have Bo1 rulesets and I prefer having the options to sideboard and alleviate potential bad matchups as necessary.
MTG is the only good card game but Arena is the worst client and economy.
9/10 card games are like the 1% of the game design of MTG, the most basic "make creature, hit face" is almost the entire game; Hearthstone, all the copies, Runeterra, etc, so not worth talking about.
Yugioh is one of the stupidest games I've ever played. It's hilarious and fascinating, but not a good game. The basic card design is the worst thing you'll ever see. Art is tiny and tons of wasted boarder space. No keywords LOL. Stupid unreadable font. They make up rules as they go and realize they actually need an official ruling on something. Yugioh rules are like Harry Potter world building. All YGO players despise endless 20 card combos yet they all despise any form of interaction too, which is the only way to stop it. Maybe it was good 20 years ago before all the power creep.
Gwent is good because it's different, but also where it falls short. The cards are beautiful and have mature themes. But it's not like a traditional card battling game, it's more about building a board of points. It's dead now, anyway.
Duelyst 2 is really good, despite some incredibly questionable balance decisions.
Magic Arena is fine, just follow the chart and don't complain about the economy
How's LoR these days? I played it a ton during release and the first expansion. Unlocked everything as a f2p and stopped caring.
Is it still the most f2p friendly card game?
still f2p friendly, its been going downhill though. the /vg/ general is gone and most of the youtubers/streamers left.
The biggest issue I have with digital card games are the padded animations. Every fricking game takes forever because every fricking action has to have some kind of shitty special effects go off so that morons buy the cards. It's such a humongous waste of time.
That plus the infinite grinding for cards sucks ass.
Sadly, they literally copy&paste Magic and fail (see Shartstone, Snap). or dont copy it (see Runeterra, Artifact, Yugioh) and fail.
Magic just is the king. At least until flesh and bloods gets an online card game.
The three in your picture are dogshit, all three of them.
Hearthstone is so bad people prefer the sidemodes of that game, don't even need to say anything else;
Runeterra had a great base but got ruined by update after update after update, just like every Riot game;
Magic is pozzed outdated garbage;
Shadowverse is just a different flavor of Hearthstone;
Duel Links is YGO but for morons and monstrously greedy;
Master Duel is decent for being a Yugioh simulator, but constantly behind in card pool and very greedy if you want to build anything besides a few meta decks, also Yugioh tires after a while;
Gwent was the best card game I've ever played but then they ruined it and closed;
All the Japanese card games that have mobile clients are garbage because you're not even playing the actual game (kinda like Duel Links), also untranslated obviously;
Duelyst was a good game but got ruined by moronic devs, Duelyst 2 got picked up by even more moronic devs so it's already failing and dying (but got open sourced so maybe someone decent will pick it up).
This genre fricking SUCKS. Digital TCGs have unlimited potential but devs always go full moronic, every fricking time.
