Pretty much all modern media is infested with this "everyone talks like a 20-something in NYC during the late 90's/early 2000's" writing style from people who are incapable of writing people communicating in any other way. If you've ever played a game or read a book or watched a movie/tv show/cartoon where everyone uses the exact same method of communication(see Marvel movies), then you know it was written by a writer who can't actually write a character, just put words in their mouth.

There are actually very few writers of any real quality in our modern era. You have to read from good writers to understand how to write well. But nobody wants to read anymore, and if they do, they're reading badly written fantasy/sci-fi crap. If good writers do exist today, none of them are working in video games, and it will all just be AI in like a decade anyway, which wouldn't be terrible if people treated it as a tool to add to their own efforts, but everyone just sees it as an easy fix all. We have all the elements necessary to create a modern renaissance if we wanted, but our generation is filled with the most creatively bankrupt "artists" in all human history, so just expect to be disappointed I guess.

What are some good books to read that have good writing?
Please provide something that was actually popular at some point in time and not some niche shit that nobody cares about except book critics.

From a modern writer? Blood Meridian and Passenger are both excellent. You can’t say those are too niche because they made Cormac’s book The Road into a movie. I haven’t read that particular book but I’ve seen the film.

          >reddit meridian
why is this always the book people recommend to booklets? Cormac's style is so fricking bizarre you are just showing off your own fart huffing nature to immediately point to this book as great writing for the average person.

It's about an immortal immoral long-nose. Of course it's going to be perpetuated as the greatest thing ever. What's funny is that homosexual said fantasy and sci-fi was bad then immediately props up BM as something worthwhile.

I'm convinced most people just haven't read it, they just talk about it because it has an edgy plot full of edgy shit but then they sit down to read it and immediately get filtered
its just a book people like the idea of, because culture trickles down to morons like this since they are incapable of engaging with the driving forces

                blood meridian

ah, blood meridian, monsieur? that novel is the sark and chaparral of literature, the filament whereon rode the remuda of highbrow, corraled out of some destitute hacienda upon the arroya, quirting and splurting with main and with pyrolatrous coagulate of lobated grandiloquence. our eyes rode over the pages, monsieur, of that slatribed azotea like argonauts of suttee, juzgados of swole, bights and systoles of walleyed and tyrolean and carbolic and tectite and scurvid and querent and creosote and scapular malpais and shellalagh. we scalped, monsieur, the gantlet of its esker and led our naked bodies into the rebozos of its mennonite and siliceous fauna, wallowing in the jasper and the carnelian like archimandrites, teamsters, combers of cassinette scoria, centroids of holothurian chancre, with pizzles of enfiladed indigo panic grass in the saltbush of our vigas, true commodores of the written page, rebuses, monsieur, we were the mygale spiders too and the devonian and debouched pulque that settled on the frizzen studebakers, listening the wolves howling in the desert while we saw the judge rise out of a thicket of corbelled arches, whinstone, cairn, cholla, lemurs, femurs, leantos, moonblanched nacre, uncottered fistulas of groaning osnaburg and kelp, isomers of fluepipe and halms awap of griddle, guisado, pelancillo.

Not just that, most people can't even be bothered to watch movies that aren't literal goyslop. I have met several people who flat out refuse to watch movies made before 2000 because they are 'too old' or 'boring'.
I also see people who will not watch anything involving history including historical fiction.

It's just the narcissism of our times, enabled by so much being on-demand and mainstream preferences being catered to, to make $$$. Why change, why learn when you can stay in your comfort zone and are rewarded for it. Why risk alienating customers with language they don't understand. Big business is safe and boring, it's just the way it is, seek alternatives.

Leaded gasoline makes everyone moronic, microplastics cause hormonal imbalances and homosexualry and asbestos... I dunno, actually, it's probably lung cancer.
But anyway, lead + microplastics = entire generations of moronic homosexuals! Pollution is literally turning humans into leftists!
