if people weren't so obsessed with gendered stereotyping and screeching at people that deviate from them, I guarantee you these sorts of movements would not have gained any major traction, simply because people would not have the suppressed desire to 'liberate' themselves from the societal pressures that keep them from doing what they're comfortable with

That’s kind of why gender is a social concept. But then people choose to dress a certain way or take hormones to present towards that gender that they feel closer to. You don’t need to change your body chemistry to be trans but a lot of people choose to take them so they can stand out less and not be labeled as pretending to be something they aren’t (most of this boards comments confirm this view). I mean even if you were a lesbian who is masculine you you’d be labeled something like “butch”. So I agree with you because you can go against norms and still be boxed in.
And yeah I agree that maybe some people wouldn’t try to change themselves if people weren’t obsessed with gendered stereotypes but the entire world is. I don’t think that makes anyone who dresses opposite to their assigned gender at birth, or decides to go on hormones less valid.
