Skyrim. I will not elaborate.
That's not even an RPG, let alone the best one.
FPBP
that's not even the best elder scrolls game
That is not even a good game.
I came in here just to say this. Bethesda caught lightning with that.
The Witcher 3 and Baldur's Gate 3 can be argued.
amazes me how many homosexuals will bite this bait every single time
The only RPG with actual roleplaying.
based and truthpilled
>no gameplay
>no story
>clunk shit
>horrible immersion (which is a given with bethesdas inept devs)
>apparently the best RPG
Everything you said is wrong
For the technical means at the time Skyrim is quite impressive.
>no immersion
>no story
We've all replayed it 5 times. Of course it wears off. At release it had those things.
Yeah but only if you mod the women to be hot and have huge breasts and your character to have a giant penis and you frick the women.
modded skyrim is objectively best yes
This post is wrong, but it is also extremely based thus fpbp
Why would you say something so controversial, and yet so brave?
Dragonborn is a great expansion.
I've never played it
I have never gotten more than halfway through Skyrim before getting bored
I thought it was like an improved Skyrim, with added nostalgia for Morrowind. But if you didn't enjoy Skyrim, it probably ain't your thing either.
Just finished a full replay of Morrowind, going to play Oblivion (never finished that either) and Skyrim both to completion, to give a sober comparison of all three.
Was pretty funny going back to Bloodmoon for the first time since probably 2003. "No, we have Skyrim at home"
I recently did a similar tour of TES games, going through the main quests, without mods. I found a lot to appreciate about each game.
Same. I'll always like Morrowind the best everyone always likes the one they played first the best but I am hoping to give Oblivion and Skyrim a fair shake, especially in view of Morrowind's flaws. And then I can cross both games off the list, instead of dismissing them from foggy memories.
Morrowind definitely has some strengths of it's own. The charm of a flawed but brilliant gem, for one. It also sort of requires more from the player, so it can at times feel more personal and engaging. Hard to explain.
Undertale
Not an RPG, barely even a game.
Kys
Shut up, namegay.
That would be my favorite RPG.
Baldur's Gate 2, because it was perfectly balanced between fun, story and atmosphere. Golden standard of the genre, never surpassed.
lord at all the brown
yea this might be the GOAT
>no way the game i played 2 years ago is waay better!
i wonder how people will feel about baldurs gate 3 in 20 years, only time will tell i guess but in terms of longevity that isnt only tied to nostalgia Baldurs Gate 2 probably takes the cake
>OLD GOOD NEW BAD OLD GOOD NEW BAD
Why do /vrpg/gays act like this? Do you hate new things because normal people like them? Are you just needlessly contrarian because society has thoroughly rejected you?
So, how those things even work? What is they purpose?
Trannies stick them in their inverted dicks to prevent the wound from healing shut.
me when i'm 15 years old and don't have an "old" to call "good" yet
>Why do /vrpg/gays act like this? Do you hate new things because normal people like them? Are you just needlessly contrarian because society has thoroughly rejected you?
unironically because they are old and probably depressed. Being needlessly argumentative is a sign of depression. Wallowing in nostalgia is another.
Although another part of it could be just how genuinely lazy and stupid gen Z is about learning about the past. They become hyper focused on a handful of things and dont put any effort into learning about other things. In the case of rpgs, they pick like 3 or 4 current ones, learn only about those, and just make countless threads about them and only know about them.
Though admittedly square fans, snes fans and pc fans are almost as bad, holding up in their bunkers, acting like everything else is garbage.
Honestly, I'd rather talk to some weirdo 50 year old that loves rpgs on the turbographix. I 100% know they have played rpgs on the snes, genny and PC as well. Maybe even gameboy, game gear, gba, ds, etc.
>like baldur's gate 2
>psychoanalyze the anon for not saying baldur's gate 3
>come to the conclusion he is an old homophobic man
Because it's objectively true. Contemporary game design is fricking garbage, hyperfocused on shoving in as much FOTM mechanics that are already outdated by the time the game releases, awful stories written by failed Hollywood screen writers who never read a novel until their first year of college and have no taste or passion, and/or hyperfocused on graphics instead of solid gameplay and fun. 20 years ago we all thought games were going to look the same BUT the memory and power of future computers would create truly massive games that could incorporate everything the devs wanted, like an Oblivion that was the size and scope of Daggerfall where you could seamlessly lock pick through windows into houses or climb walls or run a loan sharking business. Instead games mechanically have stagnated yet become bloated with nonsense and busy work and other shit mechanics.
New sucks. This is objectively provable.
Why is it the best posts that get ignored?
>an Oblivion that was the size and scope of Daggerfall where you could seamlessly lock pick through windows into houses or climb walls or run a loan sharking business
Frick that sounds awesome. Anyone know of any games that come close to this? The best RPG I've ever played is new vegas because it seemed (at least on the first play through) like you could literally do whatever the frick you wanted. Sure, there's probably a bunch of old CRPGs that offer more freedom, but the open world and real time combat are more my speed.
>inb4 New Vegas? You call THAT an rpg?
I won't even get mad or try to defend it. I genuinely want to learn of games that top it. I don't care anymore, I just want to play a good fricking game!
Arcanum holds the crown until you start getting into genuine sandboxes like Elona and Kenshi, though most sandboxes have very specific settings with accordingly focused freedom.
What else would you recommend from the sandbox side of the spectrum?
>failed Hollywood screen writers who never read a novel
that's a huge problem btw. older games had book series as influences, modern games are like netflix. also, voice acting sucks.
>get butthurt about posting objectively good game
>don't even post you own, just b***h
we all know that you would post some japanese homosexualry anyway
You didn't play BG2
Im 30 & played BG1 into BG2 for the first time last year. I absolutely loved it. There really is no greater sense of adventure in an RPG than those two games.
No, you are just a homosexual. Here's your (you), troony homosexual.
Love that fight.
I'm sorry newbies but /vrpg/ is a BG1 chad board
Most of these are fricking disgusting, the chad on the left and the girl in the middle are pvre sovl tho.
OLD GOOD NEW BAD OLD GOOD NEW BAD OLD GOOD NEW BAD OLD GOOD NEW BAD OLD GOOD NEW BAD OLD GOOD NEW BAD OLD GOOD NEW BAD OLD GOOD NEW BAD OLD GOOD NEW BAD OLD GOOD NEW BAD OLD GOOD NEW BAD OLD GOOD NEW BAD OLD GOOD NEW BAD OLD GOOD NEW BAD OLD GOOD NEW BAD OLD GOOD NEW BAD OLD GOOD NEW BAD
>NU GUD
>because it is... OKAY?!!
>*refuses to elaborate further*
based. low level DnD is top comfy. unironically old good new bad and hilariously gay
This is correct by the way.
Baldur's Gate 2 is inarguably the best CRPG ever made, and arguably the best computer game ever made.
It's almost perfect. The only flaw and it's a pretty minor one is that there's no foreshadowing of the Tree of Life, Suldanessellar etc (apart from a single reference by a sailor NPC in the Bridge District).
A big part of what's so good about it is how it brings the bold characterisation, dialogue and personality of JRPGs into the WRPG genre; something that BG1 diehards need to acknowledge.
FF8 or Fallout
JRPGs aren't RPGs. They're coping instruments for failed, ostracised men.
Nah Wrpgs are white cope and self insertion for dudes who want to escape to fantsy worlds instead of hearing a cool story
Do you want to hear a cool story or play a game?
>JRPGs aren't RPGs. They're coping instruments for failed, ostracised men.
anon, for a long time, jrpgs were the favorite games of women.
Arcanum, because it's anti-semitic
Why do these things look so lovecraftian, how do those bristles get the eggs out of the ovary?
They don't. The ovary spits out the egg, these bristles are basically just a funnel so the egg cell goes into the fallopian tube instead of flying off into the stomach cavity.
Final Fantasy 6, picrel had a lot to do with why.
This guy gets it, although I think my picrel had more to do with it.
That 13" clown dick
Both of them were my main reasons to cherish this entry (personal best) in the series actually.
Also gotta respect making viable opera with "voices" being hardly more than SNES *beep boops*.
Arcanum.
Fallout NV because of the narrative freedom and player agency. And because even when they did give the Courier a background during the DLC's, they wrote it in such a way it doesn't interfere with your own RP, unless you went with something off the rails.
Not a single game has matched it since.
haha can't wait for Fallout 4 New Vegas to come out in like uuuuuh... 2030
FF7
It wasn't my first RPG or FF game, but it gave me the feels when I was 13 and nostalgia stronk.
Also I think active ATB is the best battle system ever and just want it to come back.
New Vegas cause of the sheer amount reactivity mechanically and narratively.
That's the only thing that matters in the genre.
Post a real pussy
Betrayal at Krondor
Dink Smallwood. No explanation needed, it speaks for itself.
Gothic 1 + 2
Role playing game.
In Baldur's Gate 3 I have felt the most freedom to play as a certain role.
Cyberpunk 2077 was the most immersive experience tho, I did stuff that had no effect on gameplay but felt right for the character. I felt like I was in his shoes.
I am 30 years old and have played old Baldurs Gate games, Fallout 1, 2 and the likes. I have never had a console so never played weeb stuff like FF.
>I have never had a console so never played weeb stuff like FF.
they release most FFs on PC, ding dong sama
Not like I actively search for them. Years ago when I educated myself on jrpgs, I found very few that are critically lauded, suits my taste and is on PC. Chrono Trigger was one.
Cyberpunk 2077 is underrated.
It's also only "rpg-adjacent" action adventure and not a true rpg.
But it's underrated, at least after patches. The city is a god damn masterpiece in world/level design.
Shame they pussied out on making a more robust rpg-system and catered more for casuals.
>What is, objectively, the best RPG ever made and why?
there are none. You could make a perfect battle system and no one care because the world and story are horrible and unengaging. You can have a great story and the gameplay be plagued with problems. You can have a great story and gameplay and the game be hideous or cheap looking. There are very few perfect rpgs that everyone must play.
>There are very few perfect rpgs that everyone must play.
Name one. Inb4 "final fantasy IXIXIVIIVII japshit"
this thread is just going to be a bunch of games people played over Christmas break when they were 12
Deus Ex.

Cataclysm Bright Nights
Probably NWN because it's an actual RPG and ruleset in a box with everything you need including server, client, and dungeon master client. You really can't get a better RPG than that, the rest are just story games with RPG elements or number go up games with RPG elements.
Amazing that not a single good game has been posted in this low effort thread for petty turd worlder bickering.
Post a single good game then, basement dwelling, japshit-loving Ameritard freak.
>Inb4 Final Fantasy XIXIVIIXVIXIIVXIVIX
>Black person fantasy
The last good game was on the ps1
contrarians will seethe but nobody has ever offered a game that that landed with a bigger splash
The whole series
For me personally the first one that got me hooked on it, especially with that plot twist.
Icewind Dale because I'm a contrarian prick and someone already picked BG2
Now, OP, why did you use a brain in a uterus for this thread? Is it symbolism? Is it from your best RPG pick? Was it just to bait people like me into clicking on this thread to ask about it?
that's just an embryo growing after fertilization moron
Pretty sure fetuses kind of grow all at once and don't just build the entire brain, then the skull, then the neck etc etc. Either way it's still a weird choice for a thread to discuss best RPG.
Obviously it's an Intellect Devourer.
Trails of Cold Steel
Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Those are your actual favorite games on the list. To a lesser extent, you also like Morrowind and Kingdom Come and Twitcher 3. The rest you just added to get accepted on Ganker, and you don't actually like those games.
what do you like?
Planescape: Torment
Fallout
Fallout 2
Arcanum
Fallout New Vegas
Bloodlines
Kotor 2
M&M VII
BG 2
Gothic 2

No one cares about the opinion of a BioDrone+Bethestard. You aren't even human.
A swing and a miss. Try again next time, cuckarpigger.
Yes please tell me what are my favorite games. lol

Neverwinter Nights
It is a toolbox of an rpg able to be molded into whatever you want if you have the right skills, and comes with built in multiplayer so you can share your creation with others easily.
>lust provoking image
>irrelevant bait argument
i love how people are so eager for their shitty little hack-and-slash to be an "rpg". they're not rpgs. i don't care how you define them. i don't care if you could technically roleplay any game. you're playing an action game that happens to have level-ups and character progression. if combat is not a matter of entering commands, it is not an rpg. frick you, you're basically gamer girls desperate for validation. once more, frick you
Define RPGs, exactly. And give examples.
i pretty much did. indirect command of your character you could say. making strategic choices in turns (i guess real-time battle would still qualify). not a fricking action game. final fantasy, earthbound, shin megami tensei... i shouldn't have to give examples
I love how every discussion about what constitutes an RPG devolves into nerds pitching autistic b***hfits at each other for liking what they don't like.
>spotted the newfriend:
bro I've been here all summer. There's lulz to be had watching all the melt-downs that occur on a daily basis in basically every thread on vrpg that you don't always get in other blue boards
>all the melt-downs that occur on a daily basis in basically every thread on vrpg that you don't always get in other blue boards
You clearly haven't lurked enough on the other Ganker-adjacent boards then.
meh, it's just not the same when its a bunch of edgy gays arguing over which fighting game franchise is the gayest. It's much funnier when it's DnD nerds and weeaboos screeching at each other over the lamest shit, like watching tards fight
like whatever garbage you want, just don't call 50-IQ click-em-ups RPGs
You'd think to find in-depth discussion about RPGs themselves here. Instead it's this endless meaningless shitflinging.
Sifu is more an RPG for having two endings to choose than half of the games posted here
Probably Baldur's Gate 3 unironically.
Not objective ofc but I like Morrowind, Vvardenfell is easily the most fun tes environment
#CHALLENGE
Try to watch this in full without seething, chuddies.
>recent thing good!
How does this subhuman get so many views
Who here wants to define what an RPG is to her?
>
i can't reply normally and must resort to passive-aggressive responses
For like a pure RPG? Probably FF VI.
But personally think the best RPGS are immersive sims like Ultima Underworld, Arx Fatalis, Thief, Deus Ex, etc etc.
>For like a pure RPG? Probably FF VI.
when will we get a FF VII style remake??
This. All baldurs gates are shit.
Fight me.
Shame game got gutted by wizards if the coast and plot was very meh.
Tactical turn based D&D is much more fun than Baldurs gate combat system.
Set piece battles are what made TOEE good.
Just my opinion, call me a homosexual.
I personally much prefer turn-based over RTWP as well. However, when was the last time you played ToEE? I've played it, and the OG Baldur's Gates within the last year, and ToEE has, uh, aged very poorly.
Did you mod it with co8 and temple+?
co8 yes, temple+ no. I didn't like co8, and by the time I figured out what I wanted was temple+ and not co8, I was in too far and didn't want to restart
Know that feeling anon.
Sunk so many hours into each play through only to stop start again and try to find tune my character creations and builds.
Must be my autistic OCD homosexualry.
Yup, I get bad restartitis and always replay the opening shit several times until I'm satisfied with my build/choices/whatever. Eventually, I get far enough along that I'm like "frick it, I'm too far to restart". Buy the ticket, take the ride.
Also same. Played both within the year.
Arcanum because it taught me about the gn*mes.
Sell me on Final Fantasy 6. I hated 7.
It's even worse.
Depends why you hated ff7. I played 6 after 7 and liked it, but I liked 7. 6 is the peak of the SNES era, they pushed the console to the greatest graphics, sounds, and music it was capable of.
What does vegana have to do with best RPG?
You gotta roleplay to get it
t. moron who doesn't know what roleplaying is (in roleplaying games)
