Wonderboy is pretty good. Better than the NES ripoff known as Adventure Island.
They're basically the same game but AI has actually good music. I prefer Higgins' game
I love wonder boy in monster land arcade, pretty accurate version on amiga and pc engine, sms is a bit like a different game.

I've been playing around with making a "VS. Super Mario Bros. 2" rom hack. Progress is very slow.
Sonic the hedgehog is amazing it's the fastest game around and the music is incredible. It has style. And the bonus stages look fantastic

Akumajo Dracula is underrated. Make sure you play the Japanese version with the correct original easier difficulty.
Yeah, I don't get the hate behind it. Sure it has some jank, and the last level is lazy, but it's more fun to play through than, say, Super Slogvania Snore on the Snezz.
The developers are on record saying the game was rushed and they needed more time to properly balance it. And in this case I actually believe them rather than taking it as standard Japanese boilerplate (90% of Japanese dev interviews claim a game was "rushed").
