Pruning usually referred to autosage which was a way of pseudo-deleting threads by artificially preventing them from bumping, ensuring they'd fall off the board regardless of participation. This is way less common nowadays but can still happen.
Autosage happens a lot still, usually when a mod wants to delete something he doesn't like but wants to be 'sneaky' about it (people notice right away and mock him even harder)
I'm pretty sure pruning is just when lots of posts get deleted but the thread stays. I think pruning is what Janitors can do, while they need a mod to outright delete or move a thread.

if you add up the exp rewards for every MSQ quest you end up with more exp than required to level cap from 1-90. and you still have ~50 mandatory dungeons
i had to rerun a dungeon or two during 6.0 to finish the msq, i don't think this is true
well you've probably played for a good deal of time at each individual level cap and didn't get the exp from the X0 MSQ quests and dungeons. MSQ exp was also significantly buffed in ARR

Ever since XIV exploded in popularity the scene has gone downhill, it's unironically easier to go do that at the Lion's Pride inn on Moonguard. Mentor roulette is a form of mental anguish far and above any other game out now. You could probably pug hard content in FFXI with randoms and get a worse experience but it wouldn't be as varied. I find enjoyment in running hard content with randoms and watching them fail over and over again. In WoW the group would disband in one wipe.

I think most people complain about Sastasha because it's low level and particularly common in the leveling roulette. Most classes have two abilities instead of the 6 or 7 they had before entering, if not the 15+ that a leveled character has.

They'd have to keep updating it to include future dances that are added to the game which would be a pain in the ass for something so inconsequential.
I'd imagine the NPC's script is only checking to see if the player uses the /dance action while targeting them, so it can't be THAT hard to simply add other dance type emote /commands/action IDs to the list of recognized actions the script will accept.

Play on the Dynamis data center for an exp boost until level 80. Do the tutorial mock battles around level 15 for a decent set of equipment and a ring that boosts exp until level 30. Stick to one job, either a tank(gladiator/marauder) or arcanist (which nets you a healing alternate job in the form of scholar) for quick dungeon queues. Prepare to sit through a shit load of cutscenes.
But seriously, just play the game normally. There is really no reason to rush to end game. Even players there are kicked back to level 1 for leveling basic classes, and all duty roulettes have set level ranges you will be scaled down to.

what you dont understand is that you actually did stuff to level in vanilla wow. in FFXIV you bounce between NPCs to watch cutscenes to level. The majority of which are not voiced. Basically you do 20 "quests" of watching cutscenes and then do a dungeon or a boss fight. That's the whole game.

grinding mobs doesn't really feel very fun in ffxiv, you never feel like you're getting stronger strangely enough. the level up process just doesn't have the same dopamine rush as other games. i finished eureka and also joined the rush of people leveling blu to 80 in the ondo cups when the update came out, and i found the mob grinding experience just tedious and it didn't feel rewarding, it just felt like a chore to get over with
Failed normal-gays use it as a place where they can be socially successful (as the game is designed to let anyone achieve this end.) A chat-room game (with dress-up dolls) in other words.
What said is definitely part of it. But also as shitty as it is to say, combat finally becomes stimulating 100+ hours in, and mastering your favorite jobs' rotations while dealing with mildly difficult mechanics is satisfying. If you can somehow get a group of 7 other people together to clear some old savages and extremes without echo, I'd definitely recommend it, those are fun. Though progressing through the main scenario is equally as fricking insanely boring and monotonous as it is from the beginning to ARR. Continue playing at your own risk of wanting to blow your brains out.

Let's get this out of the way first, FFXIV is not an MMO nor is it an RPG, it's a multiplayer online game that was made for Final Fantasy fans. And yes, a lot of modern MMOs are boring because the open-world is complete trash, so you just run around killing enemies effortlessly for exp, or run around exclamation hopping for hours with barely any resistance. Turning MMORPGs into single-player online games with optional co-op was one of the stupidest things to ever happen to any genre, because even the most mediocre single-player completely BTFO's all MMORPGs in terms of story and solo gameplay.

75% of this game is in the raids. The other 25% is the story and dress up (and damn good dress up).
If the spectacle and choreography of the raids doesn't tickle your fancy, then this game has nothing to offer but AFK simulation. Personally I've met good friends with this game through raiding alone, it makes you feel like battling a difficult JRPG boss (complete with lore and cinematic qualities) but your party members are real people.

My issue is most of these activities aren't really engaging or don't make use of the combat system. You're fine to enjoy them but I feel the main selling point of an MMO is typically is cooperative content which xiv only really has raids. Field exploration and deep dungeons are somewhat engaging but don't really have any cooperative aspects outside of being able to do them as group but it's more 4 people doing independent things together.

you got this anon i believe in you. my biggest advice is to recognize going in early that the job system is far more linear and rigid than other mmo class systems including WoW. it’s one kit, no customization. in casual content, half the fun comes from finding times to make full use of the parts of the kit you wouldn’t otherwise utilize. i genuinely mean it when i say you’d be a cut above 90% of the lethargic tanks in the game if you *actually* rotated all your mitigation. you’d also be a cut above 99% of players in general if you actually used food and pots when applicable. that’s how low the bar currently is.

While I wouldn't want every tank to have the same invuln, it is pretty crazy that Holmgang is a 4min CD and HG is 7min for next to no advantage. It's like if Macrocosmos was a 3min CD, but Lilybell was 6min because frick you WHM
Hallowed Ground completely blocks incoming damage which means it requires no healer resources to get back to normal. Holmgang only prevents you from dropping below 1 HP, so it requires healing resources and thus has a shorter cooldown in exchange.
But yes I know things like party interactions make the average xivver shriek in the same way as a vampire who just had a cross held in his face.

I really wish that gear had more interesting names. The X Armor of Y naming pattern for prettt mucu everything is really dry and soulless. Relics are basically the only stuff that gets cool proper names but we didn't even get that in Endwalker. good to know man, my voice is nowhere near as appealing and I have a pretty thick accent that can't decide between eastern european and british so I just sound messy depending on comfort levels and how many people i've been speaking english to recently. Yes the MMO genre is at a dead end, just like racing games. That said, FF14 is among the worst MMOs out there if all you care about is gameplay. The only thing it does well is the story and music.
I tried it and it's not really that great. Graphics are bad, no voice acting in most of the quests, gameplay is horribly outdated. The first impression you get is downright bad. People say that you unironically need to force yourself to play this until you get to the better parts of the game, but why would I do that if I can just play something else that doesn't require me to suffer through boring content?

For the majority of MMOs the appeal is how open ended and free they can be more so than the moment to moment action. Everquest and EVE have robust faction systems that let you side with what are are normally trash mobs. Guild Wars has a fantastic class system that allows for huge player expression. Albion, New World and many others have a huge open world PVP scene were players own and run large chunks of the game world. And pretty much all of them let you explore a big open world however you want.
FF14 bucks the trend by allowing for absolutely 0 freedom in any mechanics whatsoever. You WILL explore the world in the order dictated by the main quest. You WILL build and play your class identically to everyone else. You WILL NOT make any meaningful choices in your 500 hours of play. Its why so many people claim FF14 isn't an MMO but actually a co-op RPG (though even by the loose definition of "rpg means making numbers go up", shit like nu-god of war is more of an RPG than FF14).
The appeal is that it's a single player FF first, and MMO a very distant second.
It also appeals to the older casual WoW player crowd who don't care about the poopsock raiding and Mythic + grinding that game has become entirely built around while also being way lower on FOMO and timegating practices.

This, it's a game that the devs explicitly designed so you can more or less play solo if you wanted. The only content where you *have* to interact with other people are trials and raids. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a significant percentage of the playerbase whose only interaction with multiplayer content is the mandatory Crystal Tower raids.

I'm in the older casual side of WoW player (haven't played since wrath). I wish XIV had dungeons like classic wow that took time and had a feeling of exploring. I think older players enjoyed adventuring in the field and in dungeons but ffxic doesn't offer either. It plays more as a vn than a RPG most of the story.

The only real fun you can derive from mmos is killing other players or impacting the world. Troontasy has no pvp, manages to be less sandboxy than wow of all things (which isnt sandboxy at all, but has a reputation system where you CAN make neutral shit hostile) and is im general just extremely boring, gameplay-wise and visually. There's nothing else for you to do at that point, you're waiting for everyone to collect the unobtanium from the shards of dalamud.
I actually did that in EW. You can level 2 jobs at the same time. MSQ levels one job by itself, so do all the side quests as another job. Nice leisurely way to level right when the expansion launches without rushing.

Is dungeon spam still the fastest way to level?
Supposedly grand company squadrons are the fastest way if you're playing DPS (no queues) but I never bothered unlocking that so idk. Also from 71-80, Bozja and the Pixie tribe quests give good xp.
70-90 fastest leveling is Bozja/Zadnor zone 3 fate spam, but it's probably even more mindnumbing than dungeons

There's a lot of stuff you can do if you care to do it. Far more than a single player or regular multi player game of a similar price - subscription costs (but even those end up having DLC and seasonal passes and shit) which makes it pretty good for a new player who has 10 years of things to do. Less so for those who already did it all.

Imagine if healers have a "Dance Partner"-like skill which they can use on tanks and all their skills are "Deal X potency damage and heal partner for Z potency" so in a way you make healers focus on dps. Increase healer/tank dps so they can compete with DPS jobs too and there you have the perfect mmorpg where everyone can play the job they visual vibe with without worrying about some meta/parse bullshit. If they don't perform well it's "skill issue" instead of "mah job is le nerfed" fr no cap
There are only two ways to do that

But for some reason the vast majority of this playerbase came to a Final Fantasy game with a job system and then decided they only wanted to stay on one job forever. And that would be fine if they were okay with being suboptimal from time to time. But they're not okay with that either. So we'll forever creep further and further to the former option.
Suboptimal is okay. But there have been points where jobs outright just weren't worth bringing.
That's a problem with the raid design. Like in HW instead of every boss doing nothing but magic damage there should have been bosses that do rapid physical attacks to incentivize bringing PLD for their blocking. If all the bosses are wildly different and aren't afraid to cater more to one job in a role over another, then you might go BLM for a boss that doesn't require a lot of movement but has a higher dps check, and then swap to SMN for a fight that doesn't give you any room to sit still. And that's just with job design as it is now. If they weren't afraid to incentivize getting people to switch jobs then you could give jobs more standout abilities that fights cater to even more, like DRG having bonus damage against dragons and flyers, or MCH having bonus damage against machines.
Wait a couple more expansions and you'll get that

Americans can't voice act, this game proved beyond any doubt they can't and should not be hired in any capacity to voice act for any game that requires English.
Forget what all the frickers ITT are saying: if you don't like either the combat, the crafting minigames or the character dressup then forget this game. No it doesn't get better, no it doesn't get more fun or more engaging, you just switch to bigger rotations and the numbers increase, and occasionally some boss will have a slightly different gimmick.
