What is the best edition of the DnD DMG published?

What is the best edition of the DnD DMG published? I've heard a lot of criticisms of of the 5e one and I'm interested in how other editions have handled it. What does peak DnD DMG look like?

Your pic is just a cover variant from a reprint of the one OP's piece of art is from. They're identical under the covers, more or less.

But your pic is the version I have on my shelf.

Same here. It might be heresy, but I like Easley's art better than Trampier's. And I like the uniformity of the orange spines on everything but the Fiend Folio.

Either 4e or 1e. 4e in particular because it actually sits down and tells you what a DM actually does, a godsend for new players.
