What is the best version of SF2 for beginners? I've been putting off fighting games for ages, but I played one the other day and figured how fun they actually are, and I'd like to learn one.

You may as well just go with ST but hyper fighting's pretty good too.
Super Turbo, the one everyone plays on fightcade
thread.
super street fighter 2 turbo
adapt and get good
plus cammy is in it
just keep practicing
>ADAPT
>ADAPT
>dont fix it
He means the best version to start off, Super Turbo is a disaster because of its brocken difficulty, now Super X on the other hand.
Play Super Turbo and go to YouTube and look up Damdai's tutorials. He's a great American player.
ST is the one everyone is playing. But Hyper Fighting is a good “not ST” and if you have spick and huehue friends a lot of them play that too.
World Warrior. Its the slowest out of the five games. Gives you plenty of time to think and practice links, combos and setups. I would suggest to ignore the morons above and play all five SFII games in chronological order.
>asking a beginner to go through 5 iterations of the same frickin game
u are a frickin idiot
he won't know or be able to tell a majority of the differences aside from game speed.
No, that version is filled with annoying "quirks" like Blanka's rollingball weakness, also the AI difficulty is just as bad as MK2/UMK3.
The original
8 character; half are chargers, two shotos. Nothing more, nothing less.
SSFT2 then move on to Turbo when you're half decent
This has got to be a troll thread. Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo has the cheapest, shittiest input-reading A.I. you’ll ever come across, this side of Mortal Kombat 2. Guile can shove three sonic booms up your ass instantaneously, which is impossible for a human player.
git gud scrub
The only way to git gud against cheap A.I. is by cheesing the system, which isn't fun at all. As other anons have said in this thread, the best way to improve your skills is by engaging with other players.
Then don't play the A.I.
Or play 2X which doesn't have broken A.I.
Play humans on fightcade.
yea, old fighting games can't be played offline against an AI. You need a human opponent, it won't work otherwise
the anniversary game, you can pick all the characters from all the versions of the game
only reason anyone would wanna play anything outside HF or ST is for "historical" reasons. Newbs wont know shit if they play them at face value. U gotta give them a laundry list of changes for them to notice or look for.
>World Warrior
slow, and made obselete by later iterations. No one plays this because later versions are simply better and are obvious improvements. Also the shotos are low tier and Guile is busted.
>Champion Editions
added playable boss characters, but they are largely incomplete and have missing attacks and features. (Barlog has no lows). Characters are tweaked and shotos are given different traits.
>Hyper Fighting (Turbo)
Truly the first competitive iteration of SF2. Game is frick fast. Boss characters are now fully realized and have proper movesets. Certain specials can be done in the air.
>Super
This game was largely ignored by the competitive scene, and even most casuals. 4 new characters, but the game is much slower. New graphical updated sprites, and old characters were given new moves. But the slower gameplay really soured everyone's experience. So everyone went back to HF.
>Super Turbo
A return to form. Game is now sped up. 4 new cast members from SUPER were given new moves. Old characters were tweaked some more. Now the game allows you to pick from ST versions or Old (Super) versions. Changes vary. New ability to "tech" throws, that mitigated the damage of throws. Also characters now have "Super Attacks" when they fill their super meter.
>Hyper(Anniversary)
Super Turbo, but with the option to select the previous iterations of SF2 characters. Isn't played competitively in the US. But lately has been picking up steam in Japan.
>Barlog
>New ability to "tech" throws, that mitigated the damage of throws.
Too bad the tech throw was pretty much useless then because you still lose a frickton of damage on air, only making it as a quick recover, but it wasnt until SF3 when they change the throw engine so that it only damages you WHEN you hit the ground.
Good post. He’s right.
Super Turbo is too fast. It sucks. Non-Turbo Versions are great, especially for beginners.
The only SF2 worth playing are the original and Champion Edition.
here is a really good video if you want to get good with 2D fighters in general
Just go straight to 2X/ST.
super turbo and championship edition are the ones active on fightcade, I'd just go with super turbo for the better speed. Whatever you choose you're going to have a hard time with their input strictness. These were not games where concessions were made for pad. Your shoryuken motions have to end exactly on down-forward and forget about hard punch hundred hand slap or zangief's spd ever consistantly coming out. don't get me wrong, you can still hack it, especially with charge characters like guile and chun, but you're going to come up against frustration when you face a ken that can do instant robot dps while you're getting accidental hadoukens.
https://wiki.supercombo.gg/w/Super_Street_Fighter_2_Turbo
breaks down the use of individual moves and strategy for every single character, I'm sure you could quibble with how applicable some of it is but a cool resource.
always take the opportunity to post this classic
