What is the greatest QOL feature added in the history of Pokemon?
I genuinely think it's making catching pokemon also give XP, not just beating them. Makes it so much more viable to catch several pokemon in the early game and makes aiming for dex completion during the journey incredibly fun.

hm's as a feature beyond gen 1 and possibly even gen 2 was garbage. it's an old, 8-bit DMG or 80s/90s style progress buffer. not good for the modern age.

in fact, i think a lot of things fall under this category:
        1. overworld encounters that take 20 seconds to begin battles
        2. only four moves per pokemon (when memory was a problem in 1991 this made sense... but now? ...why?)
        3. only 6 pokemon on you at any time
        4. finite box space
        5. types being fixed (i don't see why a pokemon couldn't have various types in percentages, and have weakness/resistance accordingly)
        6. move types and damage being fixed (this is changing with the advent of moves like scald, curse, and flying press but still - i don't see why fire punch only does physical damage when it should do both physical and special, plus the elemental damage)
        7. abilities, more varied or allowing several at once
        8. more stats (5-6 stats makes sense when you have no memory and your battle system is simple - but there can be dozens of different kinds of damage like stab, blunt, pierce, etc)
        9. training (perhaps something more akin to FF2 or elder scrolls where you can train specific types of moves for more damage like how morrowind has a longsword skill and a shortsword skill which increase by defeating enemies with those weapons)
        10. all trainers should be rematchable (again, memory constraints are no longer a problem)
        11. the in-game level cap should be maxed out by the end of the game (i can't see why they wouldn't be maxed out at 100--- all the kids have to do is keep playing or use items strategically)
        12. fixed gymleader order (change this; no need to have this artificial story progress dampener anymore. worked in the first game because it was also the first time WE were going through the pokemon journey)
        13. no more gimmicky evolutions (again link cable and trading and doing this shit in public was fun back then but it is gimmicky and we live in a different world now)
        14. more items per pokemon

          >only four moves per pokemon (when memory was a problem in 1991 this made sense... but now? ...why?)
..to encourage you to make choices and think about strategy? so you actually have to put a little bit of thought in making diverse, synergized movesets instead of just loading up every mon with all the moves? Jesus christ I'm glad you guys don't design games, you would manage to be even worse than GF, somehow

most pokemon fans are, there's a reason why fangames are always worse no matter how shit the main series gets

          >1.overworld encounters that take 20 seconds to begin battles
Fair, repels should be for if your Pokémon are hurt, not a sanity preserver
          >2. only four moves per pokemon
So you have make tactical choices and so one Pokémon can't answer everything
          >3. only 6 pokemon on you at any time
Similar to above, so you can't steamroll every encounter with 20 Gyarados
          >4. finite box space
Yeah fair, I still like boxes being separated though
          >5. types being fixed
          >6. move types and damage being fixed
You forget this is a simplified RPG mainly aimed at kids.
          >7. abilities, more varied or allowing several at once
Would be fun in some cases but would need a massive balance pass on everything (lmao Delibird)
          >8. more stats
See 5 and 6, also from the way you described it just a terrible, clunky idea
          >9. training
So you boost the power of one attack, or one type of attack? Sounds pretty lame
          >10. all trainers should be rematchable
Agreed, outside of cases where it wouldn't make sense of course
          >11. the in-game level cap should be maxed out by the end of the game
I'm tired and can't articulate exactly why but this seems like it would just end up as a massive grind
          >12. fixed gymleader order
Again, I actually would like dynamic teams for gym leaders, though it would need to be done properly
          >13. no more gimmicky evolutions
So long as there's some in-game hint or explanation I like the gimmicks. So long as I'm not forced to look it up online (Galarian Yamask comes to mind)
          >14. more items per pokemon
Again, would be hideously broken unless changes were done across the board but could be fun.
In summary, most of your ideas are either poorly thought out or just outright terrible and you should never be a game designer. Then again, neither should Gamefreak so frick if I know

why even make you level your Pokemon or have stats at all or movesets? it's just arbitrary limitations on the player. you should just load into the game with a full PC of every Pokemon at level 100, with max stats, and every single move. I mean it just doesn't make sense to make the player work or think

Reusable TMs have the huge downside of making your movesets too generic.

i never understood why you couldn't catch pokemon that were knocked out.

i get from a game perspective, mechanic-wise, it adds something to it.

but in the show, they often tended to knock them out before catching them. and conceptually, i can't really see any reason why knocking out the pokemon would make it uncatchable.

The ball can only capture living conscious things I guess. You can't use it to catch a rock and similarly it won't be able to register something that's fainted.

Pokemon shrink when they're knocked out so you can't properly aim at them.

On one hand, it's a nice reward. On the other, this overlevels you more than you already would be. I've said this before, if they took a page out of Go/Xenoblade 2 and made it so that you got EXP candies instead it would be really nice.

having the option to choose where you send pokémon you catch when you have a full party, such an underrated addition that saves SO MUCH time.

The thread kind of already solved by the first post, but otherwise:
EXP candies, vitamins no longer capping at 100 EVs, Bottlecaps, Mints, and Ability Capsules/Patches and anything else that streamlined raising Pokemon competitively.
I like that, if I wanted to, I could use the Pokemon I ran through the game with online without having to worry about the imperfections of their stats. Which just leaves smaller things like Egg Moves and whether you want the shiny which is more of an aesthetic choice.

      Anonymous

you can even do egg moves without breeding now with the mirror herb, so that base is covered too. they really have gone out of their way to add things like that lately.

        Damn that too? Based.
I've seen the process in the past years as the devs trying to deter people from using genned Pokemon by making raising comp Pokemon as easy as possible.
The "Create a service better than what piracy would offer" approach.
