The Castlevania games don't use swords in the same way, don't have enemies act the same, don't have the same use of skills, etc. The only similarity they have is being a 2D Action/Platformer.

There isn't one technically. However, Shantae Pirate's Curse and Wonder Boy play very similar to it. As well as Faxanadu and Metroid. I'd kill for a new 2D Action/Platformer Zelda. But they'll never do it.
There really isn't much grinding, if you know what you're doing. The problem is losing all your progression when you die (which leads to said grinding). And the huge difficulty spike when going for the hammer. Fix those two things (and stuff like the off screen bug or Link's stun fall into pits) and the game would be great. Nay, even one of the best Zeldas.
