I don't get why that playerbase is so unhinged about defending click to move controls that only exist because they're old. I get using the mouse to aim spells, but at least let me move with something else. What meaningful gameplay can possibly be implemented when the player is restricted to clunkily clicking and waiting for their character to respond?

PoE fags think the game is superior cause of the autistic skill trre that really only amounts to +life% nodes or +damage% nodes as they make fun of damage% increase sets that D3 has. It’s all the same skinnerbox designed solely to waste your time instead of being a genuinely fun game from story, gameplay, replayability standpoint. People will boast about the hundreds of skill gems meanwhile a handful of them are viable for the true endgame.
Im not sure either. Its basically diablo 3 with ffx sphere grid levelling and as you mentioned, youre basically forced into metabuilds anyway so it is completely unnecessary to have so much. Its the midwit’s diablo 3

Chris may have "gotten" it when poe was in alpha, the game is a bloated trading sim/slot machine disaster nowadays. And they aren't even taking the chance for a fresh start with poe2.
Poe literally illustrates all the problems of the genre in its current state.

ARPG was killed by 3d and garden gnomes.
You can pinpoint exactly when arpg moved from soulful 2d to ugly 3d and from just making a good game to endgame and trade.

The genre is pretty stagnant.
All these games trying to come out to prove that they can breathe life into the genre have mostly failed.
D2 came out and changed everything and the genre was struggling pretty hard until PoE came out. D3 was a joke at launch and its still pretty bad now.
Torchlight II was pretty damn good, but doesn't have longevity.
Grim Dawn came out and once again has the same problem as TLII, it doesn't have staying power.
D3 and PoE got it right by making the games always online to deter cheaters.
Cheating is the number one bane of these types of games because no one sees a problem with cheating in them and it does make the game way more fun while you have cheats, but you will lose interest way quicker because you finish out your build way sooner.
Don't get me wrong Cheating in PoE is still a huge problem. In fact, if you look at the leaderboards each league. Most of those players with 200million+ dps are all swiping the credit card to get the best gear. There are obviously some people doing it legit, but they are using so many third party programs to stay "competitive" that they are basically playing a different game then the majority of users and are also cheating.
PoE 2 will need to solve this problem if it wants to retain players again. People are fed up with PoE.
The more info I see about D4 the less appealing and by the time I play it. It will be some twisted visage of a nightmare with a fully realized cash shop without a fully realized game.
PoE2 and D4 will just be stupid mmos.

It's single-player games, just give people cheats if that's what they want.
It is really fun to cheat. I love to cheat in games. But, it kills the amount of people who will play the game with you because they either won't know how to cheat or they will get offended at you cheating and take a moral high ground.
The cheaters leave way sooner than a person who doesn't cheat because they are basically forced into playing longer to get those items that the cheaters can easily acquire.

The genre will never evolve because WoW was the successor to Diablo.
Current season of D3 is probably the best thing that's ever happened to the game.

ARPGs have nothing to do with Diablo.
Because it's focused entirely on metagayry just like modern MMOs. It doesn't matter what you do while playing the story, it's all about endlessly grinding after it. There's no actual "rpg" in it, the rpg part is just as useless as leveling is in MMOs, it's there because it's expected to be there but nobody cares about it and so story-based arpgs are niche games that don't really work.
Level ups are retarded. The game difficulty lowers as you play. It does not make sense. A game has to become harder as you play, else what is the point?!
they're actually the best in every way. gameplay from start to finish and story that does not interrupt you at all (usually)
