MJ is legitimately toxic and a terrible partner. When she goes Screamo Mode she opens up about her true feelings, and they're all blaming Peter and being jealous of him. She insinuates that helping her is more important than helping the thousands of lives he has saved. She blames him for her failings. She chastises him for showing concern and care for her even when it is warranted. She essentially forces him out of being a Super Hero because she is jealous of him and the people he spends his time protecting, potentially getting tons of people hurt in the process. She is genuinely not a good person, and yet the writers put women on a pedestal so Peter cannot stick up for himself in the slightest and spends his time apologizing and groveling to her, begging for her to forgive him. He has done everything he can. He helped her with her dumb book, it just didn't work out. I think the thing that upsets me the most is she didn't even have the respect to be honest with Peter about why they broke up in the first place. She lied to his face and continues to lie to him until she gets mad and says it as some kind of 'gotcha' moment, to reveal that she actually broke up with him due to his protectiveness. Yet this entire time she ignores that the protectiveness is "Please do not go sneaking around a warehouse filled with dangerous, murderous, psychopathic criminals who are filled with negative demon energy and have katanas, assault rifles, and RPGs and will literally kill you on sight"
I can't stand her. She actively sours the story for me. Peter has nothing good in his life, and worse still he can never stand up for himself.
Even Insomniac's Felicia canonically all but said it out loud that MJ is a c**t and Peter deserves better. She's not just useless, but is as you said unbearably toxic and brings the story's quality like nobody else.

It’s far more nuanced than you’re making it out to be, and I don’t want to make this a personal dig but if you’ve had experience in relationships before there are absolutely times where things go horribly wrong and it’s genuinely no one’s fault. Consciously, MJ understands that Peter has important things to do beyond attend to her, that heroic quality is why she loves him to begin with. But that doesn’t change the fact that he’s not there for her a lot of the time. You can have a husband in the army, be proud of the work they’re doing, but still harbor feelings of neglect and loneliness for the choices they’ve made.
Where I agree with you is that Peter shouldn’t have to apologize for shit. They both know the work he does is important, they both want to make the relationship work, they needed to decide if the strain of juggling both lives was worth their continued interaction.
The difference is that Peter DID help her write her book and he still makes as much time as he possibly can for her. Not only that, but she forces her way into all of the Super Hero business anyways. It would be like if your husband was a cop and you just go to crime scenes randomly. It is not like being in the military because he is not away from home for months, he just has to skip out on dates sometimes. As far as I know he still saw her basically every day, and all of her criticisms are super unfair. Actually, this is completely fricking insane how Insomniac misrepresented the relationship between Felicia and Peter. They wrote the dialoges as if she's a constant nuisanse, and that Peter wants nothing to do with her and wants her to just go away. Which is complete nonsene of course. They are on/off, pair, true, but at times they are not actively dating they still love each other and are good friends at worst.
I touched on that but yeah that pissed me off. Felicia's arc should have concluded with Peter, not Miles. He can have Mysterio for all I care given the way he's treated in this game but injecting him into the Black Cat storyline made no sense. If it was that important to give Miles something to do then he could have traded with Peter and taken on all of Yuri's missions. If only because Felicia and Peter mean that much to one another and their relationship needs proper closure after he, and by extension the player, was blueballed by DLC.

I'm not going to shit on them giving Felicia a chance to interact with someone other than Peter and build a dynamic, that could be fun. Peter even points out that Miles doesn't have any baggage with her so he can approach her from a new angle.
I am going to shit on that being literally her only scene in the entire game, it being extremely short, and getting absolutely no Peter interaction. The Miles scene is fine IF it was the series of a lengthy set of sidequests involving both spider-men about helping her out with whatever her new problem is, instead of literally teleporting out of the story.

Everybody hated the MJ stealth missions in the first game and they just double-downed on them instead. The amount of sequence that grind the game to a halt are infuriating. Spiderbot. Carnival minigames. Walking simulators. MJ sequences of mediocre stealth.
I get it in god of war where you have just arenas seperated by hallway walking simulators. The game has combat and nothing else so needs to be padded. Why would you pad a Spiderman game when the open world with swinging and wings are fine?
Also anybody else feel the wings shoudl have been clipped a touch? The tunnels getting me across the river in seconds makes me feel like swinging got a backseat which is a shame as the slingshot and hard turn mechanics were phenomenal with no swing assist

I know how you feel. I primarily flew/glided for missions I wanted to get done with super fricking fast, like grinding through the Mysterio missions. Eventually though I hit level cap really early in the game by swinging like a mad c**t alone. Cool that I could do that though. Once you obtain the upgrade where your traversal skills replenish every time you do a trick mid-air, shiiiiieeet.

Fricking THIS. They've taken alot of elements from the Arkham games to make this sequel feel improved. They should just stop fricking around and commit themselves to making unique swing styles/movesets/gimmicks for potential players and then give us Trials and Challenges. Silk swinging from his fingertips, Venom swinging from his fists ala Separation Anxiety instead of conventionally like Peter/Miles, Carnage swinging from the palms of his hands, shit like that. It'd just be an excuse to animate more cool ass moves. And that Marvels Avengers game basically laid the groundwork for that type of combat being effective. They should really have fun with it and go nuts with the finishers too. Could even introduce DLC characters and suits with unique trial/challenge-only gadgets/abilities. Batman did it.

You're right. It wouldn't be fair of be to just count out Miles. As the new contender he should be familiar with every rogue and ally. I find it funny how Taskmaster has yet to make a move, though. One Spider was one thing but two is asking for trouble. There's no challenge in taking on a rookie so he could be written as passively observing Miles. Given Taskmaster's gimmick it would conflict with Kraven so leaving him out of this game was wise but he should be in the next game definitely. He'd just insulate his armor to nullify the Venom Blast gimmick and then try to beat the living hell out of Miles.

Taskmaster has always trained mooks or other villains. If anything he should be the reverse of Kraven, making villains stronger while himself being a powerhouse for learning how they all fight and operate on a photographic level.
Totally, both bring balance into Peter's life and I think he needs both of them to live more or less normally.
MJ is an anchor that keeps him tied to the normie world and doesn't let him completely lose himself in his addiction to being Spider-Man.
Felicia is the enabler, she's herself addicted to her Black Cat persona, she loves being a masked freak and makes no apologies for it. As you said, she navigates the world, which is completely off limits to MJ and Peter loves that she's able to keep up and see that world through his eyes.
Stable normal life vs. excitement and danger. MJ is the stable gf/wife who like you said keeps him grounded. Felicia is the party girl, the girl that likes to have fun. She's really cool, but she'll never provide what MJ provides. The dynamic works perfectly because it reflects his life as Peter Parker vs Spiderman. I'm not surprised a bunch of women fricked that up.

I have a theory. The first is pic related, that women project themselves into these female characters which exist for the sole purpose of entertaining and drawing attention from men and then insist on forming that character to who they are and will cry and complain--which is why you either do the logical thing of not placing them in that department to begin with because how productive could it possibly be to entertain the idea to explicitly design a character as less attractive as possible? They're unaware that this has been a thriving industry purely because of the boys who read this comics grow up and are motivated to enter the industry and try to make something just as compelling and inspiring as what they've read their heroes accomplishing at that age. t's male-dominated literature. Women don't have the testosterone so they don't have the forethought to not suggest stupid shit like how Kathleen Kennedy would say to George Lucas some bullshit about how "Instead of Indiana Jones getting the girl at the end of the movie, what if he got the dog?" And being completely sincere in those suggestions. Just being completely inept in writing for a demographic they don't know dick about. I like the dynamic where the woman is strong, competent and can more or less keep up while keeping her feminine side. I don't like when a female character is an insufferable c**t, who rubs it into the male protagonist's face all the time that she's a "strong, capable woman who don't need no man".

MJ is an absolute c**t with million insecurities, b***hing about her "oh so terrible" fate, dating a superhero and being treated as a normie she is. She brings absolutely nothing worthwile into Peter's life, is nagging him all the time and generally has the main character syndrome.
Felicia is written much better, but she still uses Peter pretty cruelly, tricking him with a non-existent kid. Felicia I remember never would have disrespected Peter so openly. She's playful, but never demeaning, and is highly protective of Pete. I remember that one time she beat The Vulture to a bloody pulp and promised to kill him herself if he ever tries to harm peter again. This is not Insomniac's Black Cat.
These two girls are supposed to bring value into Pete's life, each in their own way, both should hype him up and support him when things go bad. They are both 10/10 who are very difficult to choose between. I'm not seeing anything like this in Insomniac universe. Picrelated is what I'm talking about. One is sweet and supportive, the other is direct and sultry, but both care about Pete just the same.
Sorry for the essay, but It's frustrating how much potential these games have and how badly they're held back by shitty writing and unlikeable characters.
I'm amazed that people on Ganker can understand these characters more than people who literally get paid to do it and have thousands of books of material to work with.

Its like you said--she's playful and brings a value to Peter's existence that Mary Jane isn't able to match because she's on the frontlines with Peter risking their lives for the fate of the city or just enjoying one another's company. It's an entirely different world than Mary Jane could truly perceive and its one Peter doesn't want her to engage in because of the danger but then there's this gorgeous woman who can't get enough of it--and neither can he. He does need a rest from being Spider-Man...or does he? Would she change for him? The love triangle being everpresent is the draw and the entire point of Felicia as a character and this game just cuts it off in an unsatisfying way. She should have just been used as bait to enrage and confuse Peter. Give some time to actually believe that a symbiote as been gestating within Mary Jane for an indeterminate amount of time which leads to her bonding and becoming something more than one of the mindless grunts on the streets of New York. That the length of time led to her insecurity being amplified which motivated her to say all of those hateful things to Peter and then never apologize. to him for. She changes within seconds which showcases a genuine fundamental misunderstanding of how the symbiote works and the encounter feels forced which wastes Scream as a character. And seriously Mary Jane should have apologized to Peter and emphasized that it sickened her to write hit-piece on the man she loves. And Peter could laugh it off as saying that its how he's had to make his living for a long time. By being an active participant in having his virtue diminished, his heroic actions demonized and the weight of his every mistake brutally criticized by a man who roasts him and his alter-ego relentlessly. MJ should have expressed that being around that poison begin to seep into her and that she's sorry for treating him poorly and not understanding everything he sacrifices just to put food on the table and that he keeps smiling and going out every night to do it all over again is spectacular. These two girls are supposed to bring value into Pete's life, each in their own way, both should hype him up and support him when things go bad. They are both 10/10 who are very difficult to choose between. I'm not seeing anything like this in Insomniac universe. Picrelated is what I'm talking about. One is sweet and supportive, the other is direct and sultry, but both care about Pete just the same.
Sorry for the essay, but It's frustrating how much potential these games have and how badly they're held back by shitty writing and unlikeable characters.
MJ is legitimately toxic and a terrible partner. When she goes Screamo Mode she opens up about her true feelings, and they're all blaming Peter and being jealous of him. She insinuates that helping her is more important than helping the thousands of lives he has saved. She blames him for her failings. She chastises him for showing concern and care for her even when it is warranted. She essentially forces him out of being a Super Hero because she is jealous of him and the people he spends his time protecting, potentially getting tons of people hurt in the process. She is genuinely not a good person, and yet the writers put women on a pedestal so Peter cannot stick up for himself in the slightest and spends his time apologizing and groveling to her, begging for her to forgive him. He has done everything he can. He helped her with her dumb book, it just didn't work out. I think the thing that upsets me the most is she didn't even have the respect to be honest with Peter about why they broke up in the first place. She lied to his face and continues to lie to him until she gets mad and says it as some kind of 'gotcha' moment, to reveal that she actually broke up with him due to his protectiveness. Yet this entire time she ignores that the protectiveness is "Please do not go sneaking around a warehouse filled with dangerous, murderous, psychopathic criminals who are filled with negative demon energy and have katanas, assault rifles, and RPGs and will literally kill you on sight"
I can't stand her. She actively sours the story for me. Peter has nothing good in his life, and worse still he can never stand up for himself.

It’s far more nuanced than you’re making it out to be, and I don’t want to make this a personal dig but if you’ve had experience in relationships before there are absolutely times where things go horribly wrong and it’s genuinely no one’s fault. Consciously, MJ understands that Peter has important things to do beyond attend to her, that heroic quality is why she loves him to begin with. But that doesn’t change the fact that he’s not there for her a lot of the time. You can have a husband in the army, be proud of the work they’re doing, but still harbor feelings of neglect and loneliness for the choices they’ve made.
Where I agree with you is that Peter shouldn’t have to apologize for shit. They both know the work he does is important, they both want to make the relationship work, they needed to decide if the strain of juggling both lives was worth their continued interaction.

She's supposed to be the fantasy of the gorgeous girl who is seemingly unobtainable because of her high sexual market value but who has a heart of gold who accepted and valued Peter. He was his, and then his girlfriend. Highschool sweetheart fairy tale happy ever after type thing that is a tried and true formula that has no reason being "re-envisioned" by Insomniac.
Peter is able to express his real personality because he wears a mask. With no filter he rubs alot of people the wrong way so it truly speaks to his character that he is attract the love of 10/10 like Felicia Hardy. Its like you said--she's playful and brings a value to Peter's existence that Mary Jane isn't able to match because she's on the frontlines with Peter risking their lives for the fate of the city or just enjoying one another's company. It's an entirely different world than Mary Jane could truly perceive and its one Peter doesn't want her to engage in because of the danger but then there's this gorgeous woman who can't get enough of it--and neither can he. He does need a rest from being Spider-Man...or does he? Would she change for him? The love triangle being everpresent is the draw and the entire point of Felicia as a character and this game just cuts it off in an unsatisfying way. Felicia will never stop pining for Peter and if this was written correctly then she would have expressed that to him privately and then kissed him farewell not dick around with Miles in her shapeless ugly outfit that I can't possibly understand how people keep complimenting.

Actually, this is completely fricking insane how Insomniac misrepresented the relationship between Felicia and Peter. They wrote the dialoges as if she's a constant nuisanse, and that Peter wants nothing to do with her and wants her to just go away. Which is complete nonsene of course. They are on/off, pair, true, but at times they are not actively dating they still love each other and are good friends at worst.
I touched on that but yeah that pissed me off. Felicia's arc should have concluded with Peter, not Miles. He can have Mysterio for all I care given the way he's treated in this game but injecting him into the Black Cat storyline made no sense. If it was that important to give Miles something to do then he could have traded with Peter and taken on all of Yuri's missions. If only because Felicia and Peter mean that much to one another and their relationship needs proper closure after he, and by extension the player, was blueballed by DLC.
I'm not going to shit on them giving Felicia a chance to interact with someone other than Peter and build a dynamic, that could be fun. Peter even points out that Miles doesn't have any baggage with her so he can approach her from a new angle.
I am going to shit on that being literally her only scene in the entire game, it being extremely short, and getting absolutely no Peter interaction. The Miles scene is fine IF it was the series of a lengthy set of sidequests involving both spider-men about helping her out with whatever her new problem is, instead of literally teleporting out of the story.
I'm personally mad at Insomniac for not making her playable, when she has almost identical gameplay mechanics to Spider-Man. Everybody hated the MJ stealth missions in the first game and they just double-downed on them instead. If they need a playable female character for woke points, they already have one, just give her some missions.

The amount of sequence that grind the game to a halt are infuriating. Spiderbot. Carnival minigames. Walking simulators. MJ sequences of mediocre stealth.
I get it in god of war where you have just arenas seperated by hallway walking simulators. The game has combat and nothing else so needs to be padded. Why would you pad a Spiderman game when the open world with swinging and wings are fine?
Also anybody else feel the wings shoudl have been clipped a touch? The tunnels getting me across the river in seconds makes me feel like swinging got a backseat which is a shame as the slingshot and hard turn mechanics were phenomenal with no swing assist

I know how you feel. I primarily flew/glided for missions I wanted to get done with super fricking fast, like grinding through the Mysterio missions. Eventually though I hit level cap really early in the game by swinging like a mad c**t alone. Cool that I could do that though. Once you obtain the upgrade where your traversal skills replenish every time you do a trick mid-air, shiiiiieeet.
If you pretend the entire story doesn't exist and just do as much of the open world superhero shit as you can, these games aren't so bad; only problem is characters never shutting up about your next mission. There's decent games buried in here and I think it's a tragedy that the story and its missions are such a horrible experience.
That's how I did this game. I grinded a bunch of missions I assumed were Miles-only which left the story missions as Peter all the more satisfying. Except for everything related to Scream of course.

Fricking THIS. They've taken alot of elements from the Arkham games to make this sequel feel improved. They should just stop fricking around and commit themselves to making unique swing styles/movesets/gimmicks for potential players and then give us Trials and Challenges. Silk swinging from his fingertips, Venom swinging from his fists ala Separation Anxiety instead of conventionally like Peter/Miles, Carnage swinging from the palms of his hands, shit like that. It'd just be an excuse to animate more cool ass moves. And that Marvels Avengers game basically laid the groundwork for that type of combat being effective. They should really have fun with it and go nuts with the finishers too. Could even introduce DLC characters and suits with unique trial/challenge-only gadgets/abilities. Batman did it.

You're right. It wouldn't be fair of be to just count out Miles. As the new contender he should be familiar with every rogue and ally. I find it funny how Taskmaster has yet to make a move, though. One Spider was one thing but two is asking for trouble. There's no challenge in taking on a rookie so he could be written as passively observing Miles. Given Taskmaster's gimmick it would conflict with Kraven so leaving him out of this game was wise but he should be in the next game definitely. He'd just insulate his armor to nullify the Venom Blast gimmick and then try to beat the living hell out of Miles.
Taskmaster has always trained mooks or other villains. If anything he should be the reverse of Kraven, making villains stronger while himself being a powerhouse for learning how they all fight and operate on a photographic level.
Totally, both bring balance into Peter's life and I think he needs both of them to live more or less normally.
MJ is an anchor that keeps him tied to the normie world and doesn't let him completely lose himself in his addiction to being Spider-Man.
Felicia is the enabler, she's herself addicted to her Black Cat persona, she loves being a masked freak and makes no apologies for it. As you said, she navigates the world, which is completely off limits to MJ and Peter loves that she's able to keep up and see that world through his eyes.
Stable normal life vs. excitement and danger. MJ is the stable gf/wife who like you said keeps him grounded. Felicia is the party girl, the girl that likes to have fun. She's really cool, but she'll never provide what MJ provides. The dynamic works perfectly because it reflects his life as Peter Parker vs Spiderman. I'm not surprised a bunch of women fricked that up.

I have a theory. The first is pic related, that women project themselves into these female characters which exist for the sole purpose of entertaining and drawing attention from men and then insist on forming that character to who they are and will cry and complain--which is why you either do the logical thing of not placing them in that department to begin with because how productive could it possibly be to entertain the idea to explicitly design a character as less attractive as possible? A woman wouldn't get this and thus frankly shouldn't be in that position to begin with.
The second is that women are very familiar with child development yet very unfamiliar with what's cool and what boys like unless men, and by proxy boys, TELL them its cool. Girls are followers. They will follow male interests and engage when the fanbase, as intended, is predominately male. Now, women write books for toddlers and shit. Women will buy their son a Spider-Man comic and write it off as the same content for small children. They're unaware that this has been a thriving industry purely because of the boys who read this comics grow up and are motivated to enter the industry and try to make something just as compelling and inspiring as what they've read their heroes accomplishing at that age. t's male-dominated literature. Women don't have the testosterone so they don't have the forethought to not suggest stupid shit like how Kathleen Kennedy would say to George Lucas some bullshit about how "Instead of Indiana Jones getting the girl at the end of the movie, what if he got the dog?" She should have just been used as bait to enrage and confuse Peter. Give some time to actually believe that a symbiote as been gestating within Mary Jane for an indeterminate amount of time which leads to her bonding and becoming something more than one of the mindless grunts on the streets of New York. That the length of time led to her insecurity being amplified which motivated her to say all of those hateful things to Peter and then never apologize. to him for. She changes within seconds which showcases a genuine fundamental misunderstanding of how the symbiote works and the encounter feels forced which wastes Scream as a character. And seriously Mary Jane should have apologized to Peter and emphasized that it sickened her to write hit-piece on the man she loves. And Peter could laugh it off as saying that its how he's had to make his living for a long time. By being an active participant in having his virtue diminished, his heroic actions demonized and the weight of his every mistake brutally criticized by a man who roasts him and his alter-ego relentlessly. MJ should have expressed that being around that poison begin to seep into her and that she's sorry for treating him poorly and not understanding everything he sacrifices just to put food on the table and that he keeps smiling and going out every night to do it all over again is spectacular. MJ should have expressed that it doesn't matter if they move back into the city that she supports him and will be by Peter's side even if it means he has to swing from out of motels.
