This is just the natural declination of Mad Max aesthetics with the modern gay aesthetics. The true underpying issue is that Mad Max's depiction of post apocalypse, which was meant to be ridicolous and over the top as critique to consumerist society starved for MOAR PRODUCTS and ever increasingly addicted and brainless, convinced the entire western media that people would start dressing like savages with skulls, leather and metal spikes the moment shit hits the fan
Same stuff as today. Bureaucracy, research, farming, household, management, etc.. How is that even a question, there are a lot of stuff that needs to be done which doesn't involve physical prowess.

If you take a random gameplay clip of Rage 1 you'll most likely find a linear setpiece where excellent shooting, enemy animations and whatnot can shine.
If you take a random Rage 2 gameplay moment you'll see the player wasting a bunch of enemies wide in the open as hitscan bullets do jackshit

The movement and super power options are too fricking strong, and also the level design NEEDS to be shitty small camp to accomodate it
May God forgive me for saying this, but they should have copied Far Cry model, make it more fast paced, with better shooting and AI and with actual melee, and made gun customization and abilities unlock a bigger focus

I'd say it fits Mad Max Fury Road's pretty damn well, and that's where most of these games got their inspiration from anyways.
It's not supposed to be a realistic apocalypse by any means whatsoever. It's completely over the top and the colors only excentuate this part of it.
Hell playing the Mad Max game the best part of that game was just driving around admiring the views. Shit's completely desolate to the point you won't realize you're apparently driving ON THE OCEAN FLOOR until you find a fricking oil rig.
