At least Skyrim Special Edition had the excuse of moving to the 64-bit engine which was ultimately huge for the game's stability and moddability, along with combining all the DLC into one package to permanently negate the common issue with the base game of modders often having to make separate versions for installs without Dawnguard/Dragonborn

I heard it was a litmus test to see what they could feasibly get away with at a $70 pricetag. I skipped the initial Remaster on PS4 because I felt they would eventually do this. I'd say it's the culmination of the experiment they've been pulling off since SOTC remake. going from that, testing the waters to see the demand of a 1:1, purely graphical "remake", then to Bluepoint's Demon's Souls, charging 70, and now this.
It took like 5 years to make and 100s of people. They priced it to what it's budget was. I don't think Ganker realizes how much work goes into game dev, especially AAA gamedev where the starting salary is at least 50k for a noob out of college.

Lol no. It looks like TLOU adapted to run on TLOU2's engine, which is just an upgrade of the previous engine anyway. Even the UI is exactly the same. You can't compare this to something like RE4 remake which is clearly the entire game rebuilt on a completely different engine with new animations, textures, etc.

The story is alright I guess, but the gameplay is so far detached from the type of story it wants to tell that it makes it worse. TLoU would unironically be better as a movie, but the script is too bad to be successful as a movie

Just getting on the project but its got several modes with the main one being a battle royale. It also has 2 v 2, 3 v 3 etc mode that starts off with the teams in the middle of a gunfight. Pretty big map of North east San Francisco, supposedly more are coming the year after it releases. Map has a lot of high ground, water, a giant cruise ship, Coit tower. TLOU2 mechanics are all there including new ones like wall kicks to get to higher ground. There are optional objectives each time you load into a map that involve doing stuff like getting a radio tower relay system working or collecting supplies and storing them in a stash for your people at home. I think they wanted a 40 man cap in the battle royale so its more close up fights. They have stuff all over the maps to be able to nope the frick out of fights like pushing over cabinets to slow down pursuers, but its a team game (also has solos) so you are expecting to flank them and cut them off when they do that.

yea there will be but they haven't started on them yet. They basically just have 1 so far and I think its about you being a new drifter who's joining a scavenger camp in one of Victorian houses. I haven't seen a script yet or anything. I'm going to be setting up these whenever they get more fleshed out. Oh and Debrah Wilson is in it. Sasuga Sony.

As someone who worked on TLOU2, how do you think the game turned out? Like I said, it my favorite game ever, interested to hear your opinion on the story especially, because imo that shit is incredible, all the risks it took paid off completely.
I joined pretty late into TLOU2 but I thought it was pretty ballsy to kill off their main character in the brutal way they did. I did like the story aside from some of the contrivances like Abby finding Ellies map, or you having to kill Alice the dog. I also thought the game should have given you the option to kill Abby, but I realize that most people would have done that and not have thought about it at all.

It was too convenient and the sappy flashback to make her stop right at that moment, especially after having her fingers bitten off moments ago, was eye-rolling, particularly in a game that likes to toot its own horn about realism being grounded. They should have had the option to let her go, or kill her and then take Lev with you and nurse her back to health as a means of paying for killing Abby and a call back to when she did the same for Joel. When Lev finally wakes up, Ellie would tell her what happened and give Lev the choice to kill her or walk away.

But once she is on the boat to sail off and just be like you let me alive I do the same, image of joels death comes and she still can‘t let go. Then they fight (this is the moment where she tries to go for her light) and then get burned by loosing her fingers and only connection. Right before she kills her, she gets an epiphany. She never wanted to kill her, she was just coping and angry that she lost her time with joel.
Well I'm glad they have the decency to make it separate from 2. Online was the best part of 1 so I'll be getting the multiplayer.

SOTC remake did far more to modernize its original version and yet only cost $40 at launch.
I'm guessing what's costing Sony all that money is remaking all the pre-rendered cutscenes so they can play out in-game. That 10 minute propaganda video mentions "seamless" transitions between cutscenes and gameplay and pre-rendered video cutscenes aren't as viable now like they were in the PS3 days.
They have the skeleton of the original game, along with the voices and art direction, all done, plus current technology, and the cost is definitely less than having the game done from scratch.

No you can't justify the 80 europoor dollars price tag. Considering this game is a remake that doesn't change anything about the level design and the gameplay, you can assume that there's almost no design effort going into this game apart from updating the assets they already had.
This is one of those remasters larping as a remake. Nothing has been recorded, nothing has been mocapped, nothing has been edited. It's using all the files of the originals with 2s assets. It's a remaster.
It's not a remaster it's a backport. A remaster is more like Demons souls remake where it's the old code running untouched. This is TLOU2 systems shoehorned in to TLOU with things like prone disabled.
