I think it's important to just not talk about video games as openly to people because we can see that the vast majority don't care about the hobby unless there's something of a social motive behind it - consider that there are people that don't play video games and are willing to play any shit game or game developed by shit people simply because, and this is key, their friends are playing or because there is a lot of people playing it. So when it comes to some game IPs you just have to not talk about it much and just keep a small circle. It's a trade off: you make the thing you like become popular and commercially successful but you lose the people that are remnant of those that found and appreciate the game as it initially was otherwise, you're going to have to settle for what you had initially and ignore the newer iterations or your favorite IP. Take Resident Evil for instance, I like the old games but I don't care much for the newer games. The newer, younger fans are great and I'm happy for them but I can't relate to them nor will I try to talk to them. The phenomena you’re referring to works effectively in communities of like 100 people or less, and will NEVER work for products advertised by companies as big as game publishers. Everyone involved with the creation of these games but you wants as many people buying and playing as they can possibly manage. They don’t feel they owe you anything, and would drop you like a sack of shit for larger profit margins. You whining on Ganker has never effected that.
I think it's important to just not talk about video games as openly to people because we can see that the vast majority don't care about the hobby unless there's something of a social motive behind it - consider that there are people that don't play video games and are willing to play any shit game or game developed by shit people simply because, and this is key, their friends are playing or because there is a lot of people playing it. So when it comes to some game IPs you just have to not talk about it much and just keep a small circle. It's a trade off: you make the thing you like become popular and commercially successful but you lose the people that are remnant of those that found and appreciate the game as it initially was otherwise, you're going to have to settle for what you had initially and ignore the newer iterations or your favorite IP. Take Resident Evil for instance, I like the old games but I don't care much for the newer games. The newer, younger fans are great and I'm happy for them but I can't relate to them nor will I try to talk to them. Being and old homosexual, I know the video games industry has passed me by and that is okay. But if I can help it, I will keep whatever new games I like to myself and recommend it only to friends in RL and longtime online contacts who I know are not certified homosexuals that will talk.

Very. Used to really love the Yakuza series (Yakuza 5's localization announcement was one of the few times i had genuine hype for a video game conference), but now it's developed in mind for the western Twitter audience that thinks it's all crazy GTA in Japan. Even the Yakuza 3-5 ports changed the localization script to add dated memes. Yes it always had wacky moments, but it at least knew there was a time and place for it and knew when it was time to get serious. I blame 0 for all of this

Gatekeeping doesn't exist in an effective fashion. You cannot stop someone from engaging with something you enjoy in a meaningful fashion.
