The Switch is relevant because it's the only portable console on the market. The Wii U had just as many Nintendo exclusives and no one cared; the 3DS had a disappointing library, and it sold 80 million units anyway.
What's crazy to me is the fact that that number is only decreasing. PS5 games are being ported to other platforms faster than any new exclusives are being made.
The Switch is near useless as a console. I bought one just because it got hacked and I like playing games a few days early occasionally, but aside from that it's all just port garbage and awful baby games that hold no interest or appeal for anyone over the age of 5 mentally. At least it was only 200 bucks a few years back.

I have a Switch and PS5 though. And in Japan they literally had people saying they want a PS5 forever, with riots in stores when they had restock. People are just sour for now because of issues with those restocks. But if I was able to do it working a regular 9/5 job, their asses should be able to. Acting like the PS5 was a magical unicorn when these restock timer channels/discords been eating good with bringing in these people is something else. At the end of the day, most are just kinda used to instant clicking to get what they want.

In terms of actual exclusives people would be willing to pay if they weren't trying to justify wasting 500 bucks, the console obviously has nothing.
I think the only actual exclusives that would qualify as a platform seller are... the DeS remake and maybe Ratchet & Clank? Though in fairness, I know at least one person who wanted a PS5 for GT7, but that's a PS4 multiplat, so again, barely counts. The PS5 is in such a pitiable state.
GT7 is the only game of interest they have, but like you said, it's multiplat and it's coming to PC at some point, so I'll just wait. Hopefully someone mods the game to have decent FFB and better physics.

It's not console warring, remasters cannot be exclusives by their very nature. Remakes mostly can't either except for some special cases where things are changed so much they essentially become a new game.
I don't know, it just sounds like shitposting. If you never bought those games already, and you get better performance out of them then if you tried to buy a PS4 or get it on PS4, why not get the console, which also comes with a decent library of shit on PS Plus.
I'd understand if people have had those games, played them, and went on to want better stuff, but the majority of people making the argument are either primarily PC or Switch owners, never played any of those games, many of whom if they ever had a Sony console was back with the PS3. So the argument seems kinda hollow, or a way to confirm their bias when for the most part most of those games they'd have access to they haven't played. Granted, some they may not want to play, but its not like the games are bad objectively. Though with the backlogs I see some people have, it comes to a point they spend more time complaining on what they want than playing what they have, heh.

Black person, I own a PS5, and it's collecting dust because there's frick all to play on it that I didn't already play on PS4 and don't want to pay a game's worth for a graphical upgrade, or that I can't buy on PC for better performance and modability. I have a capable PC and a Switch and haven't touched my Switch since Animal Crossing came out. As someone mainly playing on PC, I just can't stand the archaic hardware of the switch anymore where games either look like shit, run like shit or both. Playing games on it just doesn't feel good to me, so I might as well try and emulate whatever it is that I want to play on there.

PC gets all Nintendo exclusives via Ryujinx and Yuzu, it gets all xbox studios games, and it gets some Sony games, which are going to be ported later anyways.
This is in addition to having the most native releases year by year by a long shot and the most "backwards compatibility" of every single console released combined. It can also play those consoles via emulation, which is like 40 years of console games. To say it's the ultimate platform is an understatement.

Gamecube wasn't underpowered for it's gen, but it had better emulation far earlier, Switch right now has better emulation than PS3, PS2, PSX, Xbox and Xbox 360.
A lot of work has already been done in emulating ARM for phone development on the desktop. GC/PS3/360 were quirky PPC platforms.
WiiU has better emulation than those platforms too.

What a weird strategy. Who thought "buy a $500 MSRP console at 50% markup to also buy your old PS4 games again at close to full price, so you can play them at a better frame rate" would be a good way to spearhead your new console's entry into an oversaturated, highly competitive market? And then they just stopped releasing games for it.
Don't forget they botched the manufacturing process and kept under delivering stock so the few people who actually did want it couldn't buy it. Just a massive frick around, Sony is brain dead this generation. They should've called it the Playstation 4 Super or some shit.
That was Microsoft's strategy, "Xbox One but more powerful". Sony on the other hand "believed in generations"... until they couldn't produce enough PS5s.
That said, if you already played all your games on PS4, there's no reason not to get a PS5 right now. For a relatively small investment, your experience is going to be so much better: it's like upgrading from a FX 6300 + HD 7850 + 5000 RPM hard drive to a 6600 XT + 3700X + PCIe SSD for $500, it's a no-brainer.

I have PC+PS4 but currently the only games slated to stay exclusive I actually care about are Gravity Rush/2, Bloodborne, The Last Guardian, SotC Remaster (I prefer the updated graphics) and (although this is also on xbox) Judgement+Lost Judgement.

And two, not even bothering to try to keep up in the hardware race, because they don't have to, have their tech as ancient as they can make it, so they incur the least amount of issues with selling at a loss but also keep current software ridiculously expensive for ages and sell peripherals at a premium. That's been their strategy and why should they stop?
Though, with the plateau of what graphics and performance upgrades with hardware coming, that can change, so they should stay wary.

Yeah, but on that same listing you have Dragon Quest being beaten out by eBaseball, and the portability of the Switch is the main thrust of its popularity but even then, you still have RPGs edging pretty high on that list from all consoles. Once we get past these shortages (if this world can sort itself out) we'll see how things pan out. The main factors for Switch dominance is not allowing multiplat while giving portability, since people can care less about graphical fidelity over there.

In fact the problem is that playstation and xbox stopped having exclusives as far as ps3 and 360 days compared to previous generations. A nintenfriend with a laptop has little to no incentive nowadays to buy an xbox or a ps5. And nothing to complain about since its all covered. Getting something ported to switch is always interesting due to portability, but if not, its always going to be on steam sooner or later.
The only cope here is snoys finally realizing, after years of decay, that sony is does not have a creative DNA or an innertia that warrants that anything you liked at some point about your ps2, is going to be there in one way or another. Without that creative dna, being a "fan" of playstation means exclusively being a fan of literally a brand name with nothing beneath it.

I was bitter towards FPS games as a whole back in the day for supplanting my favorite genre (JRPGs) as the go-to for big budget releases (and I still say that Japan went full moron), but looking back, Halo co-op was some of the most fun that I had with friends back then. Maybe even the most fun.
Team Ninja was kinda second party back then, too. Ninja Gaiden and DOA are great.

My opinion is that the Switch is mostly a port machine (though it has some very good games too) but the PS5 is a nothing machine. It cannot be overstated how much damage HD has done to game development.
No, what did damage to game development wasn't HD. It was the fact that companies weren't happy using a working engine and wanted for their bigger titles to try creating their own development environment, see Square's obsession with Crystal Tools and Luminous Studio, but then you had successes like the RE Engine. Setbacks because people got too greedy and want other companies to license out their development environments was a hefty blow. But HD? Nah. What plagued the PS5 was that only really the past couple years were they ramping things up and they continued to keep a lot of their stuff split to PS4/PS5, limiting things they could do and not making an incentive to purchase the newer console. Partially good because of supply chain problems, but bad in that it makes it look like they have no games for the console. Perception can sometimes be stronger than the truth.

MS fixed a bunch of issues in the system software in the last year and the system began showing some advantage over the PS5. The current gen patches for RE2 and 3 make the 120fps and ray tracing mode unplayable on PS5 but it is good enough if you have a VRR screen with Xbox. Not only the Xbox versions performs better but their VRR implementation actually works. Sniper Elite 5 has a better performance on Xbox too.
MS had a presentation a few months ago where the Coalition talked about Variable Rate Shading and how their new implementation will get into the system software soon. It could potential result in up to +15% performance.

PC might be "growing" but that is nothing compared to the number of PS4's that used to be in Japanese hands. The PC adoption in Japan is not enough to support the machine as it has in the past unless it is being offset by console support.
