I'm very boring, I like mobile melee builds.
Also Veles is the best.
Between two builds.
Either I go glass cannon, whether they be fast or slow.
Or if the game allows it, build around taking damage and doing more damage the lower your health.
Gladiatrix, Dimachaerus if I want to get a little risky.
Dimachaerus doesn't frick with any of that pussy ass shield shit
double scissor, no weaknesses. I don't have the picture from a previous thread of double scissor tho so I'mma just post this random shit.
dexgays were always reviled, people never change do they?
Man, poor retiarius, why does everyone shit on them? It could be worse, it could be just a dagger and nothing else, at least they have a trident, it's not so bad
level all magic stats, ignore everything else
Why would someone (in a practical manner) prefer to dual wield swords over just taking a shield? Not having a shield while holding a short weapon is way too risky
They wouldn't. DOOL WEELD is a frickin anime trope. Having a parrying dagger is marginally better than having a shield but you're still getting your shit rocked if your opponent has one
the weak point of shield users is feinting high and then going for the legs and that's easier with 2 swords
Imagine dying on the battlefield to some jackass doing this Loony Tunes shit
Gladiators were literally like RPG classes, loosely based on historical enemies of Rome but also balanced against each other for better spectacle.
Well that makes more sense. Pretty fricked up for them though
>Pretty fricked up for them though
I mean, these were gladiatorial fights.
TBF they weren't really supposed to kill each other, they were too expensive for that.
In reality, gladiator fights were more like a mix of MMA tournaments and the WWE (depending on the period). If they wanted bloody spectacle they had prisoners and animals.
>implying they got to choose
They were trained in classes that were intentionally given various strengths and weaknesses to make the shows more entertaining.
Because that looks cool. This shit was a theatralized show which is best compared to modern day wrestling.
It was obviously made look like actual death happened using various stuff like animal blood, and it is possibly that many plebs watching it even believed it, but if someone ever intentionally fought to death in gladiator combat, it was a rare exception.
The perception of Roman entertainment is greatly distorted by mythology from an era when Europeans were literally unable to process what sport is, and believes that all those Roman circuses had no other purpose except performing cartel executions on poor innocent Christians who dindu nuffin, which Roman people (otherwise known to be religiously inclusive) loved to watch for some reason.
Wow. Very eye opening post.
Talk no jutsu. Diplomancer.
>Laquaearius X. Jacksonius III
sheeeeeeeiiittt
Is this from a game?
What are the best Roman combat games?
>Best Roman combat games
Unironically For Honor
Domina is pretty good gladiator game. Also classic PS2 games like Colosseum Road to Freedom and Shadow of Rome. Oh and Gladius
I totally forgot about this game ngl
Yeah its a fun management game with amazing music. Shame it got removed from steam because the dev had a shitfit
Why is this still not a game?
The closest is Chivalry. But a gladiator game with these class builds and the kind of overblown pomp and circumstance for every battle like HD2 has would be great.
Every fight could have a "game director" ala the Emperor making demands to either stir up the crowd or to placate them. Or just because he's bored or feels like being a dick. They could throw lions in, or have you fight on chariots. On in mock naval battles. While there's horns blaring and the crowd going apeshit. All the battles start off with you being gaslit into thinking you're dying for honor and for the emperor of Rome.
Murmillo or Bestiarius. MAYBE Veles. I love spears and glaives, and classic sword and board.
Any of the ones that arent brown.
Why the frick do they have four different names for "guy with spear" and five different names for "sword and board?"
because they look different moron
I mean... not really? The only difference between a Murmillo and a Samnis is that the Samnis has a feather on his helmet and he's missing a greave. That hardly seems sufficient to make them separate classes.
Romeaboo here. The Murmillo is a later evolution of the Samnis. Basically the Samnis represented the Samnites, an Italic tribe that the Romans crushed in the republican period. Eventually, as Samnites became more integrated in Roman society, it became seen as politically incorrect to represent them as gladiators, so the “class” changed to Murmillo, a fantasy type.
Basically same reason we don’t have pro wrestlers in the WWE called “Big Sambo” anymore.
Different weight and composition of the shield. Different size and shape of the blade. Different helmet. Different armor. All of this made attacking with this build and counterattacking it different from other similar builds.
It's because of cancel culture and I'm not even memeing. They would name classes after enemies if Rome, but that becomes a problem when that enemy is in the process of integrating into the empire. So people whined that Thraex, named after a Greek people, should be renamed. And it became Murmillo, named after a different enemy. But years later new complaints came how that wasn't ok either. So by the end the classes were given generic latin names so finally it became Secutor. The names became like "pursuer, protector" etc. Which just goes to show that time is a flat circle
>be me
>forced into becoming a gladiator
>meet trainer
>he hands me a spear
>good start
>then a tiny dagger
>oh no
>then a tiny shield
>no
>then some kneepads
>no no no no no
>finally a helmet with a few tiny holes that I can't see shit out of

>BESTiarius outside BEST tier
Boo
I like the guy with the net and trident
No damage stats and as much health and defenses I can shovel onto a character wearing giant fricking gauntlets and boots but just a fricking coat.
I just like the vibe.
Female gladiator fights are really hot
We should bring those back or at least make games of them.
Normally at first I try to do a bit of everything if I can, just so I can get a feel of how each weapon and magic system works.
If possible I like a mix between melee and magic, it's good to cover all bases
I want a big frick-off shield. I wanna turtle until my opponent is frustrated and exhausted from my impenetrable defense.
PAEGNIARIUS
I'm an oldgay and I've been playing games since before I could read. If I can make a build, for like 20 years of my life, I just went "Attack" build. I'm not really sure when it changed, maybe it just changed because I had done everything "Attack" for so long, but now I prefer to make a Magic build any time I can. There was also a time when I preferred "rogue" types, but again I just prefer to use Magic whenever possible, even if it's suboptimal, though I do like a kind of Spellsword thing, like maybe a bit of a Red Mage
Nowadays, if I do go pure physical, it's usually something more "interesting" like a counter attack or follow up build if the game allows for it
How does the most armored gladiator not always win? Why else would armies invest so heavily in armor technology?
None of them are that well armored, I see some metal protection for some of the head and limbs, but at most leather for the torso, which is pretty good, but not invincible
Lack of vision and mobility kinda sucks sometimes
Pitched battles are WAY different from dueling
That's why Spartacus got wrecked in his last fight
why are they/them wearing so little armor? aren't they going to a motherfricking battle? this is highly inaccurate
>aren't they going to a motherfricking battle?
No
They're slaves who fight for entertainment
I like whatever is best for quickly grinding solo content while not dying. Often that means something bulky with lifesteal or healing, so a paladin, necromancer, or summoner of some kind.
Of these, I'd choose the Veles because he has a shield and spears. That's OP. You have reach and still have good defense. Plus those spears look throwable which is even better, projectiles? Can kill without being touched, especially if the opponent has no shield.
>Black guy has the whip
Monkey see
I usually do bows in games. I’ve always loved archery
secutor, murmillo, samnis, provocateur, and gladiatrix are all the fricking same thing. what a moronic picture.
for me, it's one shot johnny
>Ignoring the jeepers and crispy bispy meta
Like you're asking to get kicked.
Easily rock out randall, any opportunity to do any form of parry in a video game immediately becomes a win.
>watch as you whiff your parries
>come out of nowhere with ether rex
>paralyze you while you're stuck in parry endlag
>5x dmg to paralyzed shrimps
>1 dmg multiplied to 5
Rockout Randall's REGULAR attack is still more powerful than the paralyzed combo
you forgot about the 5 poison dot. between that and and my 5 damage attack, that's enough to meet the breakpoints of just about anyone, excluding donny and the grandguard. i'll die if i try it on someone like brunt, you foolish randal players always get too wienery...
You better hope pvp isn't p2p... Ive got a 15 year old brazillian modem thats ready to take you down with a 300+ ping. Im a soulsgays worst nightmare
>you parry
>i activate paralysis poison
>you seem paralyzed as i do my combo
>your connection returns, parrying my combo and walking off the status
>i die in an instant explosion of blood
bullshit!
Brazillian latency magic: a magic so powerful it permeates thru all games.
>Johnnygay
What is this, 2017? Johnny has been a joke character for years after the nerf, especially with the Bumpsy meta that's been around for months at this point
Sorry, can't hear you cos you're dead from a SINGLE SHOT
did they ever have twisted metal style chariot battles with them slamming into each other or trying to impale the other driver on spears?
Either 2h melee or the edgiest form of magic available. A class that is somehow both is also acceptable.
my death khomie
having watched a few of these “mma but with knights” events from east europe i am pretty sure that glsdiator battles would be boring if they were not scripted. 99% of the time its just them blindly throwing their swords around while keeping their head as far away as possible.
I like how the watermark makes it look like the Bestiarius just did some anime move and landed backward, hence the smack effect.
Jack of all using items often.
Not enough spear+shield build games. I need recommendations.
I have 4 general builds I usually try for
Ferocity - Strength and spirituality to make a tanky dps with a mix of physical and fire damage. Ranged weapon choice heavy crossbow or high caliber handgun.
Control - Strength Dexterity and Intelligence Swords and shields with some minor non-elemental magic. Ranged weapon choice longbow or assault rifle.
Corruption - Holy assassin capable of healing, damage, and stealth. Ranged weapon choice composite shortbow or compound bow.
Balance/duality - Balanced stats, buff magic, dual wielding, Unarmed combat. Ranged weapon choice dual crossbow or sub-machine gun.
Scissor
>decent armor
>high DPS
>versatile

>Fallout

>CoD MW2

>Starsector

>STALKER

>Stellaris
Battleship only fleets, aquatic style
>CoH
Fallschrimjaeger and STUGs
>Rome Total War
Iberian Infantry because they look cool and are useless
>Highfleet
Rook only starts with heavy HEAVY modifications
>Xenonauts
Rocketeer, Shield, 2 assault, 2 rifle, 2 MG
>Battle Brothers
^SHCHS^ ^-Spear S-Sword H-Hammer C-Cleaver
XPGPX X-Crossbow P-Polearm G-Standard
>Mount and Blade
2H sword, Bow, Arrow, Arrow (Swap arrow for spear if bulk horseBlack folk)
No cavalry army
>Doiminions

>TW WH3
Vampire general, Vampire, at least 10 skeleton units and the rest to follow a certain theme (ghoul, flying, beast)
>GoW

>Pokemon
There will always be a Gyarados
>The Sims 4
Evil villain career and marry a b***h who will paint all day
>Tactics Ogre Knight of Lodis
Loeher Knight, rest generics Dragoon, Valkyrie, Wizard, Female Priest, Female Knight, Swordmaster yes I don't use the full 8
>Rainbow six Raven Shield
Everyone gets an M14 and heavy armour
backstabbing assassin e-girl with twintails.
The twintails are NOT negotiable.
All f them are kinda iffy.
I pick Veles.
I think it is important to have a large shield when you have so little armor and a spear has more reach and I have more experience in spears than swords. Wolf cap is a nice bonus but sadly of little use if I am bleeding out in the sands of the arena.
Bestarius has a very nice spear but no protection whatsoever.
Murmillo probably has the nicest gear with a helmet, armguard and pretty big shield, buzt I am not really a sword person.
