What made Elden Ring such an astronomical success compared to From's previous offerings despite not being all that different?

Multiplat and global release day 1 + openworld memes + viral shilling utilizing e-celebs.
It's also casual as frick compared to every past game.
>It's also casual as frick compared to every past game
Not really, Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 are still the easiest games.
It was voted the most hyped up game for years. People were talking about it never coming out even though it came out a relatively short time after Sekrio.
Sorceress Sellen. That's literally it.
Glad you can save her now. She's cute without her helmet.
Agreed. Allowing us to save, marry, and go on dates with Sellen is probably the most based thing Fromsoft's ever done.
It's insane that they actually take into account your stats when impregnating Sellen.
Is this a meme? I did Sellen's quest this week on my first mage build, then looked up if it was possible to save her afterwards. Didn't find anything.
Did you patch it? Happened months ago. You don't really save her. Just transfers her over to her other body and she takes over the Academy.
Then turns into a face monster
No this is before she turns. You need to find the extra Sellen.
This, they really knew what would grab people's attention.
GRRM meme
2019 goty
and the fact that they somehow made decent games
Literally just marketing
It had 5% of the marketing Cyberspunk 2077 had and nobody cares about the fat frick outside le HBO series but keep coping on the fact it raped troonyborne
Actually mindbroken.
no need to sign your posts, anon
>actually crying "rubber glue"
That's just fricking sad, dude.
see
It was like exploring a painting.. it was kino, Ganker.. it really was.
I wish the camera would actually zoom out like this during exploration
This - I don't play these wannabe "le hard" games for their combat at all, boss design, world design, enemy design, level design and exploration is what grasps me in, their art design in particular is pure LUDOKINO
The gaming media shilled it as the best thing since sliced bread despite them showing virtually no gameplay
Actually having a good art style & an open world to show it off in
Being good at still mindbreaking shazamspics, discord trannies and Gankerermin 18 months later
>shit tons of advertising
>normies eat up open world shit
grr martin, open world and years of hype from good games
i still haven't met a miyazakifan who actually thinks elden ring is their best work
>i still haven't met a miyazakifan who actually thinks elden ring is their best work
You just did.
sekiro is still the best
looking forward to the combat in ac6
Bloodborne is Miyazaki's best work.
If it's not, it's close just by the sheer amount of content, effort put in, and the fact they were actually able to end the game.
The best game overall is Demons Souls
The best story is Dark Souls
The best gameplay is Bloodborne
But Elden Ring is the most fun. Which is all that matters to most people, myself included. So yeah id call it my favorite even if it isnt the best
Demon Souls is a sloppy beta of dark souls 1 and bloodborne is 5 hours long. Snoys get the fricking rope.
if elden ring was my first souls it probably would be my favorite. but after having played 7 of them, a lot of of what elden ring went aesthetically, gameplay and storywise left me completely cold unfortuantely.
>despite not being all the different
i think its vastly different, definitely more easy and friendly to newcomers, hence why it did so well where the more traditional titles didnt sell as much
>Elden ring
>Easier than the soulsborne games
No. Try soloing the content. You will get your butthole wrecked.
>Try soloing the content.
No.
ydbtg
All you need is people selling it as the "ultimate soulslike".
Bill Ebin Beasd :DDDD
Begum Ebin Lorb :DDDDDD
It's the ultimate soulsborne formula and runs at 60 FPS unlike a certain sickdark slideshow
>morons still malding and "reviewing" the game as if it was a complete and abandoned product
>Expansion DLC isn't even out yet
2 more years of seething ahead, but unironically
Because it was dark souls 3 but without all the things that made dark souls 3 shit.
Are we still pretending that DaS3 was bad?
It was though. Dark Souls didnt need a sequel and Myazaki admitted he never wanted to make them in the first place
OH LAWD HE COMIN
world too linear
combat too spammy
It had like 5 decent bosses, it's extremely linear, half the enemies were bloodborne rejects that just didn't mesh with DS3's player move set, two thirds of the levels were trudging through literal human poop, poise was fricked, most of the weapons were useless, almost all of the magic and weapon arts were useless, the PVP was fundamentally broken due to rolling and estus being too strong, and the story was even more brazenly unfinished than usual and was partially meta commentary about how the devs didn't want to make the fricking game. Don't get me wrong, I still played it a few times, it's not a bad game, but it's not one I ever feel the need to revisit, because it's frankly just not a very pleasant experience and has little room for variety in any regard. I will say that it has the second best soundtrack and the best set of endings of any from soft game, so there's that. It also established getting rid of armor upgrading, which was good.
I've said this since release but it's my least favorite souls game, followed by Elden Ring. I didn't like how the combat was closer to Bloodborne than to the previous souls entries.
The reason this is a controversial opinion nowadays is because it came out in summer of 2016, which makes it a fond high school summer vacation memory for most people on this board atleast
just parry him bro
mmmh... that actually makes a lot of sense
>DS2troony's gaping axe wound bleeding profusely again
every thread, every time
kek
>I really liked elden ring and thought it took all the good things from DS3 and improved on the parts that were underwhelming or poorly designed
>FUKC YOU FGGT YOU LIKE DS2
autism
>DS2 is...LE BAD
>DS2troony immediately melting down after being recognized
every thread, every time
kek
Cope
I almost certain majority of those who like elden ring like ds2 and vice versa. this narrative you're trying to spin only exists in your hrt filled brain you schizo homosexual. now stfu
extreme marketting, plus open world has inherently more mainstream appeal.
Any other explanation is weird moron shit
desperate user base with no other games
desperate game industry with no other games*
FTFY
Open World Meme
Riding off Dark Souls popularity
Most tools to alleviate difficulty in the series
No real punishing weird mechanics like spirit form
More bright and colorful traditional fantasy
GRRM
It's Dark Souls but AAA and normalgay basically.
80% of the things you said are wrong and delusional, find which ones aren't.
the rothschilds
Why would they support a copy of Tolkien's high fantasy
There was a massive drought of releases in early 2022, and it managed to capture both the growing souls fanbase and the larger mainstream audience who buy a gigantic open world fantasy game once half-decade or so (Skyrim in 2011, Witcher 3 in 2015, etc)
Normalgays fell for two things
1. GRRM meme
2. OPEN WORLDERINO????
Also way more marketing
jews did it
Why would they support a game that denounces them
https://pantheon.org/articles/s/shabriri.html
More broadly, Elden Ring is about the fall of the Byzantine Empire, which most israelites would have considered a good thing at the time
Constantine was the first israeli roman emperor though
homie which one? If you mean THE Constantine, he was one of the most pious Christians who ever lived.
It innovated and gained mass market appeal by being the first rollie soulsie to suck shit
Is it reasonable to suggest the sekiro goty award was partly responsible? At least for putting From in the mainstream eye proper
No. It probably didn't hurt, but Sekiro wasn't much of a pop culture phenomena in spite of being generally well reviewed and received. No, I'd say the biggest reason Elden Ring succeeded as much as it did was just how fricking strong the pre-launch demo was. It set the internet on fire.
From has been mainstream since DeS.
A shitload of marketing
GRRM hype
releasing with no competition in winter '22
Turns out it is easy to sell a shitload when nothing else is releasing alongside your game
Um bro? It sold the same month as the horizon sequel
Sony claims that Horizon 2 sold 8 million copies (fat chance, to be honest), elden ring sold over 20 million
>astronomical success compared to From's previous offerings
DS3 sold like 12 million copies
ER sold a shitload more, but DS3 was already outrageously successful
>First From game with good combat
>First From game with good bosses
>First From game with consistent and good levels
