      Specifically with google play, the issue is if you aren't on the play store you only get like 0.001% of the users.
      Nobody installs raw APKs and it's more to do with people not being technically inclined to do it than any of the other very legitimate reasons not to install random apks (malware)

          So many people just use sketchy apps that are full of ads just because those come with a database of roms ready to run.
          Genuinely not everyone is smart enough to download an APK.
          Personally, I just liked the convenience of downloading my shit without effort so I got My Boy and Pizza Boy years ago. Also Drastic, but at the time DS Emulation on phones didn't have a lot of alternatives.

    Not surprising. I think that as the iPhone eventually gets buck broken into a more open platform, it'll probably have a leveling out effect in the long run where Android is a little less wild. The Play Store is ridiculous, the amount of garbage shit in there is truly unbelievable--and the Apple App Store is already chock full of junk. Nobody gives a frick about Apps anymore, there just an annoying aspect of modern life. We've gone way too long in archiving and emulation in the grey market space and I can only hope that we eventually get some better court protections on stuff like this. Distributing ROMs and BIOs will always be for weird websites hosted in Bogaslavia, but emulators should be allowed to live, provided there's no funny business.

    What's the point of this? Nintendo has shown they don't give a frick about older gens. Even when emulation was completely unmolested by lawsuits, tendies would buy Nintendo branded NES and SNES roms at full price without even thinking twice about it. Nintendo has no reason to go after a Gameboy emulator, it's only when emulation affects their current gen profits that they get uppity.
