I remember playing sonic 1 in the sears electronics section when it first came out
when i got it as a christmas present, i could never get past that gay water level
sonic 2 was better but all in all the games are just ok
Nobody wants to admit it, but Sonic 1 is among the best platforming games ever made. It's addictive, compelling and unforgettable. Every single aspect is well executed.
All four of the 90s 2D Sonic games are top tier platformers. They just focus on different things and have wildly different goals. People like to say certain ones are bad, but they're all leagues above the competition.
It's a shame Sonic 2 gets the short end of the stick as far as fan ports go.
Sonic 1 Forever has a bunch of great extra features, a mod-native Amy that controls better than the Origins version, and a fan mod that includes Mighty and Ray while touching up all characters to fit Sonic 1's art style.
Sonic CD has Miracle Edition for full-features and Restored for an absolutely perfect level of accuracy to the original gameplay while allowing widescreen and slight alterations.
S3AIR is also near-perfect and has a fan mod that adds a far superior Amy than Origins alongside Mighty and Ray.
Sonic 2 Absolute is arguably worse than the Origins version, as it's missing new bugfixes, doesn't have Amy, and the mods are pretty middling.
thats weird, when you said "its mid until labyrinth zone" you misspelled it as "It's great until labyrinth zone". hope you can go on to achieve fluency someday
Labyrinth Zone isn't as good as Tidal Tempest, Aquatic Ruin or Hydrocity because they all build on it. It's better than most underwater levels, and pretty much every other 2D Sonic underwater level (Advance 1 beats it by being Tidal Tempest X Ice Cap).
I feel like Sonic 2 is the weakest of the bunch. There's a lot of cool stunts you can do, but the levels don't even try to resist you until Mystic Cave.
Le Sonic was never le good.

>Top stupid to beat a children's platformer.
>Thinks his assessment matters.
visuals: it have a very distinctive artstyle and character design.
Gameplay: inertia mixed with a quite vertical level design.
Simple gameplay loop and music.
That's it.
Sonic for Hire is still going on btw
jeez what the frick
>Sonic the Hedgehog (1991)
>Sonic CD (1993)
>Nights into Dreams... (1996)
>Burning Rangers (1998)
Naoto Oshima games from the 90s
Fast.
It's okay. 3 stages per zone is too much though.

Sonic 2 was getting a full recreation with hand-drawn visuals.
That looked like utter shit.
Yeah, where is it now?
It's under there.
We really going to pretend that Labyrinth Zone: The Game is an A tier platformer? Didn’t realize standards were this in the gutter for Sonic fans.
>"Wow, you like [game]? Heh!"
>Offers no counterargument.
What, are you about to lionize High Seas Havoc and Hook?
>[thing that only takes up 1.3/6ths of the game]: The Game
megadrive or master system
It's great until labyrinth zone
youtube top worst levels opinion

nothing, it's an above-average platformer made into a runaway success by marketers
all of the sequels were much better

Not one poster realised he's talking about the master system version
That isn't the MS title screen.
Non linear levels.
You can take multiple diffrent paths to complete a level.
Sonic 1 was alright
Sonic 2 was great
Sonic 3 & Knuckles was a masterpiece
Not a ton, it's just decent, 2 and 3&K are better.
