The Cyberpunk resurgence lately has utterly blackpilled me on the average consumer's ability to and see through modern influencer-based marketing, or even to retain basic long-term memory.

There's probably other things you could throw in but these summed it up pretty succinctly. You can see this in all other media too.

Passion. A product you give a shit about will always come out better than a corporate checklist. See LOTR vs Rings of Power for an extreme example of how throwing a billion dollars and a billion people at something cant make it good

Games began so expensive that the limitations of the tech became secondary to limitations of the audience.

Games are more limited than ever before, making games like FF7 Original is impossible because of just how many people it would have to appeal to. It's not that you can sell a game like that to a smaller audience, that game flat out doesn't exist anymore.

You could do things in games 20 years ago that are just impossible now. That's the reality

Uhh no. Games are expensive now due to massive social media marketing, being built for a million systems, and corporate bullshit like "diversity coaches" and "equity overseers" in their companies. Theres tons of lower budget games that completely shit on aaa ultra high budget games. I suppose part of it though is corporates thinking that they have to throw a billion dollars at something to get a good product, and that more money invested = more money back

We lost demanding auditory. I'll tell you what: I got Greedfall couple of days ago and it has:
    - no jumping
    - fake openworld with invisible walls, where you can't even slightly take a shortcut from the road
    - same loot from every beast
    - practically same loot from every human enemy
    - no real options in dialogs. just click to say what you would say anyway. you have a real choice only in couple of cases
    - talent-locked content. On this I will go wider: you got talent point every 4 levels. Talents are mostly useless in combat, except the science, that allow you to craft potions and bullets. Yet, the game demands from you to wast talent points on shitty energy and intuition talents to allow you to go in couple of places
    - quite boring combat
    - mobs are barely different from each others. If some things have 4 legs, then they feel all the same
    - the map is half-empty
And you know what? I went on plebbit and on youtube to find out, what people think about this game. People are praising it, and more of that, this studio is going for Greedfall 2, which means, that first one was a success

also, to compare it with shitty Gothic 2 night of the Raven from the 2003
      - jumping is enabled + you can climb on practically any flat thing
      - every beast had own miscellaneous loot and all fur beasts had different hides, that varied in prices dependent on strenght of the beast
      - real options in many dialogs, char could ask and say shitton of things
      - real openworld, you can take any shortcuts and choose paths you want to go
      - map is full with enemies and shit
      - every enemy type is special, by look and by combat
It had bad sides, but it's forgivable, because it was 2003, they were like pioneers of action-RPGs

this always happens when things get popular.the newbies attract the suits and thats usually how the decline starts.big money gets involved and starts to test the water and you are helpless to stop it because the newfags have no standards.the decline gets worse and worse since everyone who respects his money and time leaves until its mostly bugmen and drooling retards who remain.the new fans are so despised that they will larping as oldfags to make their shit opinions look more valid which is often the signal that the franchise etc has reached rock bottom.

All the cool shit eventually becomes popular and subverted. Look at the literal decades of cool doom wads people made simply because they wanted to make the coolest shit die out with the boomer shooter trend. A lot of good devs got started with tinkering with custom wads, not anymore. Basically every avenue of creativity is subverted and destroyed. Everything must become homogenized slop, to the point where people can't even tell they're eating shit any more, because shit is all they've ever known. There are still good games once in a blue moon but they'll always be buried and the few that aren't will get bought out by bigger companies and picked clean. This has extended to every artistic medium. Humanity is over.

There is more stupid money now. Computers used to be limited to nerds and autists who looked like original jeff bezos, with lots of money and time. Now every zoomerbaby has one.
