        >SWTOR
This game is apparently getting its second wind ever since changing developers from Bioware to Broadsword. They already released more via updates than Bioware did in years, and even opened a much asked for Asian server.

because context is key. under bioware and ea it was just a failing mmorpg that locked up too much manpower. under broadsword it's the biggest project they have and worth developing.

Basically just incels mad that there's black people now

Lol no one even cares about the avatar update. I have seen not a single woman with a beard. Umbar is also full of black people and again no one cares. Lotro has a billion real issues (like how the expansion is shit and has no content) for people to simply not give a shit about muh hecking diversity.

Lotro's community went from being comfy and lore autistic with the best boomers (because they were always happy to be kept in check by people who were experienced with the game) to nothing but the loudest and most angriest boomers shitting on literally everything and anyone. All the good people quit 8 years ago.

The developers unironically see 60 year old hobbit players doing literally nothing but multibox music bands as the core community and it has done serious damage to the game's health in its older years.

Couple this with the lead moderator banning anyone on the forums for disagreeing with the boomer group think (and recently started banning anyone using a fricking laughing emoji) and you get a very sour and bitter face of the community that honestly depresses me.

Not to mention this new wave of moron players who infest the smaller servers who have a talent for turning up any feud or gay drama up to 11 by getting involved trying to be weird wannabe moderators. The game is so mismanaged that you can get away with so much bullshit before they start to ban you and if you were really dedicated enough it takes 10 minutes to make an account because there's no verirication required.
It's a shit heap where trolls are unironically some of the smartest and nicest people in the game now. I honestly can't recommend it in its current state. It's not anywhere near as obnoxious as bigger MMOs and you can still find comfy niches of players. But for the relative obscurity of this game, the shit that comes with it is immense.

But that's the internet now. People changed...

Hate to pick the popular thing, but it's almost certainly World of Warcraft. It's nearly impossible to find a thread on their forums that isn't just b***hing and/or stupid ideas.

because they don't really want to play a sandbox mmorpg, they just like the IDEA of playing one.

they jsut want to prey on low level or newbie players to raise their pp. The second that mode is remove or disable, they will cry about not killing newbies. Theyre the type of players that will never fight someone that is gear towards actual pvping. They know they will lose to them.

      Anonymous

real root of the problem is "sandbox" has just boiled down to hardcore pvp when you could do so much more with an actual sandbox mmorpg

        Anonymous

Sandbox games will always privilege the people who can put in hundreds of hours weekly into the game. Even moderately hardcore players like those who put in 4-6 hours every day will never be able to compete with metheads who play for 36 hours, sleep 4 and repeat infinitely. In normal sandbox MMOs this is already bad enough because it creates an awful snowball effect and if, god forbids, the game has full loot on death, it simply makes playing the game impossible.

That's MMORPGs in general, though. Time investment is the key to victory unless you can straight up P2W in.

            Anonymous

If it’s a theme park the difference in time invested won’t matter nearly as much, though. That’s my point. This sort of games need some sort of hard ceiling to avoid things getting out of hand.

WoW - Since vanilla, almost 20 years. Did everything to PvP, raids, grinds, etc.
FFXIV - Since beta 2.0, mostly did dungeons. Raids weren't too interesting for me.
Planetside 2 - 4,641 hours over the course of 10 years. It peaked when I played then apparently.
Runescape - Summer of '04, played a lot off and on since, pre-RS3 and combat overhaul
Diablo - Played D1 on PS1, played well over 5k+ hours on Diablo 2 back in the day. Quit cold turkey after dying on a seasonal ladder hardcore. Diablo 3, not too interested in it right now and don't care. Beat story mode in D4 and played a partial season 1 before getting bored. Needs a lot more work done.
New World - 800 hours, could never really do raids. Did a lot of crafting though.
Lost Ark - 212 hours. Meh.
        Neverwinter - 176 hours.
        LOTR - Zero
        EQ2 - 10 minutes
        Rift - 671 hours

Getting a fresh private server for Dark Age of Camelot on December 2nd. The server is called Eden 2. It's old, not a looker, but the combat mechanics are still the best in any MMO, people are pretty chill, and honestly it's a very fun game to play support on too if that's what you wanted to do. Really good PvP in this game if you can look past the outdated graphics and animations.

EQ2 has so much bloat devs gradually even removed some of the content. On the flipside it has some cool shit like learning languages so enemies don't yell moon runes at you, for example. I'd say it's one of the few MMORPGs that has leftover markings of what made the genre cool back in the day albeit buried under the years of bloat.

PSO2. Take a look at their /vg/ thread. They have a convicted crack addict who beat his mother and has mugshots widely available online larping as a brats doll, a mega autist who bots the threads and posts his character over and over and some kid with bpd who will get into 16 hour arguments with random posters. This has been the case for nearly 4 years.

besides its obvious faults I'm honestly enjoying it more than the time I tried wow, the controller playstyle really makes it comfy with the expanded crossbar style
and dear god there are so many cosmetic mods, really nice for someone like me that enjoys playing dress-up
