I'm playing FF9 now and Chocobo Hot and Cold is pretty miserable, you can spend the whole minute trying to peck for the exact pixel that will let you dig the item up.
The part that changes me from finding it lame and tedious to despising it, is that the field re-randomizes periodically, ensure that the entire thing is as mindless and button-mashy as possible.
>Chocobo Hot and Cold
If you can install Moguri Mod, you can up the game speed and the Hot & Cold timer doesn't change so you can get 8 items and the bonus every time. You can get everything and lvl 99 your chocobo relatively quickly.
I love FFIX, but frick that minigame. In fact, frick all the minigames in IX except Tetra Master and Blackjack.
Jump rope, Hippaul racing, and frog catching can be easily cheated with Moguri.
The shuffle game can't be cheated but is fair and doable, but I've never gotten 100 on the goddamn swordfight and that's 2/4 of my remaining achievements.
i never had issues with Chocobo Hot and cold personally i found it amusing, but the Jump rope and the hippaul minigames were torture on the playstation.
The true torture is the nero brothers swap minigame at the beginning of disk 3, i cheated it by recording it on the phone and slowing down the video to see who it was lol, the minigame is nearly impossible otherwise
>i cheated it by recording it on the phone and slowing down the video to see who it was
Nice. I wish I had thought of that, I hyper-focused my eyes on the center guy and watched the item in my peripheral vision.
That one wasn't bad. Lightning Dodge was the one that was an actual war crime. Even during my peak endless free time of my youth, Lulu never got her celestial weapon.

FF9 was filled with kind of shitty ones. Chocobo exploring the world was fun but hot and cold itself was trash. The card game was too luck based. Jump Rope was a meme throwaway thing that the devs taunted the player with a unattainable item with for getting 6 million jumps or whatever it was.
Moredhel Wordlocks in Betrayal at Krondor, they start easy enough but eventually get more challenging and then downright esoteric. Sure, you can look up the answers online nowaday and you always could just brute-force it by trying every combination, but that doesn't make the principal idea any better.
Worst: ff8/ff9 card games:
Best: Witcher 3 card game
I hated the ff8 card game when I first played but years later, I liked playing the original rules. I couldn't figure out the card game in ff9 though

>Chocobo Hot and Cold
I had completely blocked this from memory
If you get the hang out of it, 8ts actually easy.
It is an atrocious mini game though.
I used to hate this until someone told me that it's not about where the beak hits, but instead about where the chocobo's feet are.

Came here to say this.
I've heard FFX minigames are even more terrible but have never experienced them myself.
that motherfricking chocobo race in FF10.
getting the legendary weapons in x is a fricking nightmare
Any ffx minigame was a torture device
>chocobo race
>butterfly hunt
>lightning dodging
What were they thinking?
>Blitzball (okay in small doses)
>Cactuar hunt (not as painful but still a chore)
>Monster hunt (same as cactuars)
>need to capture 10 of every fricking moster to get everything
Yeah, it was moronic
>tfw eternally filtered by lightning dodging
ff has some of the worst mini games it's pretty crazy how bad she is at it
At least it's easy to cheat the lightining dodging on an emulator.

I impressed a zoomer in a class at uni by timing threads on a manual lathe and I asked if he had played FF10 and he said no, lol
Breath of Fire 3. All the minigames were awful and they were almost all mandatory to progress the story.
Frick you, the fishing was great.
Thats the only passable one, and its optional to boot.
Fishing in BoF 3 is not optional. At one point in the game you had to cook Shisu and one of the integredients could only be gotten by fishing.
Breath of Fire 3.
I remember just getting a bunch of OP cards, I think just copies of Grand Dragon or something like that, and just stat maxing my way to victories.
