This was the last great Battlefield so I don't really care. There's no way I buy it within its standard life cycle where they update it and pump it with DLC and whatnot. 3 and 1 were pretty good but not spectacular, but the others have been dogshit (didn't play 4)

There's no point even beginning to think about the setting when apparently even having classes isn't a guarantee in a fricking Battlefield game.
Even before that it's all but certain to be more GaaS shit with the actual game design being secondary to the monetization scheme rendering the likelihood of us getting a good game virtually nonexistent.
Battlefield is absolutely mega-dead and no fancy CGI trailer will save it no matter how much nostalgia bait they load it with.

Hardline was the best newer battlefield game. 10/10 setting, weapons, gameplay tweaks, game modes, etc.
It died in like a month and no one played it because the entire battlefield playerbase are military vehicle autists.
You can't have a creative setting because no tanks no jets = no players
they shouldn't have made that a full priced title with premium on top of it especially considering BF4 was alive at the time

More than anything they need to make good maps because some of the maps in bf2042 are trash. Like Manifest, the snow map I can't remember the name of and Kelidescope.
Makes will make or break the game, good map, good weapon balance is all they need to focus on.

I loved BF1, but that game was a "We can do this one time" situation.
Sure, new maps, new stories, but DICE were scraping the absolute bottom of the barrel when it came to adding in weapons and equipment. So many guns were "technically, this gun existed even though only two were ever made, and we don't have a great idea of how these guns fully worked."
Just give me BF3 back.

Scrap all new field shit, either go back to bf2 mechanics in frostbite and make it completely moddable or go a new direction and do hard sci fi with a realistic completely voxel level destruction. Something like buy the squad and galactic contention studios and have them make the new bf sci fi game with all the resources. Would be extremely Kino.
It won't be good. Its just going to be a sequel of Battlefield 2042, with all the specialist shit and moronic ass lore that no one cares about.
Its going to be another two steps forward eighty steps back approach that takes 2 years to undo those eighty backwards steps all over again.

The real problem with 2042 is the vast majority of its development was to be a battle royal game. That got shitcanned at the last minute so they desperately tried to make it normal battlefieldmright before release. That’s why all the maps felt like crappy battle royal maps at launch and they had to completely re do every single one over the last few years.
At least the next game hopefully won’t have the identity crisis.
And they already tried and failed a battle royal with Firestorm. EA and specifically DICE are just trend chasers and can't think of good original ideas. Whatever the next BF will be, it'll just be some abomination of elements stolen from other things.
