Emergent gameplay is really important. MMOs are often linear, limiting gathering, crafting, and trading to a few pieces and allowing little effect on players and the world -- PvE and PvP are similar; what players want is to provide value to others and themselves that comes from ingenuity (game knowledge; skillful play) that's storyworthy. It's easy to do; the genre's usual leveling for 100 hours per class can be replaced with equipment that's losable and that provides size, mobility, and abilities rivaling comics. Not only does it keep content relevant so that there's always something to do (losing items is approximately the only way to have repeatable, dynamic status, risk:reward being phenomenal for adrenergics and investment), playstyles and tools can be designed to provide variety and depth. Being able to store items throughout the world, utilize PvE to get lucky, powerful, and rich, and strategize resources, areas, and characters to have intensity and community is fun and social. PvE should be a convergent point in the world for characters, clearing npcs and gaining their items, vehicles, and base pieces; exploring amongst potential PvP incentivizes grouping, perhaps paying people to guard you or areas, and stimulates attentiveness. Losable items, varied and deep character options, and being able to affect the world are key to emergent gameplay.

Play ARK. I'm sure most of you want a game that you can play as much as you want and always have something interesting to do. You can build bases, collect blueprints, cook recipes, make custom consumables, craft items, PvP, tame creatures, breed colors and stats, do open world caves and mini-bosses, and do arena bosses. The world is challenging; equipment drops before you respawn; and tames vary in effectiveness from weak ground mounts to turreted, bomber sky whales. Items (tools, armor, and weapons) have large potential in effectiveness. It's a shooter, so it's skillful, and even if an opponent has high quality equipment, a headshot from a Longneck can win the engagement. Getting items and blueprints is easy to do; ordinary quality items can be made in the dozens or even hundreds in some minutes. Playstyles vary from bows to mounts with magical attacks.

>play ARK
>load into world
>get clubbed to death immediately by server's dominant group
>repeat x10, never have fun
>leave
Yeah nah, it's the same as with Rust, it's just dominated by big groups of buttholes that ruin everyone else's fun
>b-b-but it's pee vee pee!!!
Shut the frick up, dominating a guy with a rock with your late game equipment isn't pvp, it's a roflstomp
Also, I'll never support a company that releases its first DLC before letting the game out of early access
Spawns aren't camped. What map are you playing, and what is your goal?
DO NOT PLAY ARK IT WILL SWALLOW YOUR WHOLE LIFE.
I'm still recovering from the trauma of how many hours I've played it and how many hours I've wasted playing it
Is it p2w
The Genesis Season Pass (specifically, the Genesis Two map) gives every character a functional Tek suit that can harvest well and carry a lot. It's also the best place to farm most blueprints.
ARK is $18.28 on keysites, and Genesis is $29.99 on Steam, so it's about $49 altogether.
This post is advertising or begging.
No.
ARK is gay and you're a gay
Can you come up with a reason to play it over literally anything else, realizing that amount of (real player) characters and a persistent world are the most motivating and fun aspects of gaming?
Sorry I don't play homosexual boring games like ARK.
Anon, come play with me.
Do you want to contribute to the discussion?
I've already done everything there is to do besides stupid shit like max breeding useless dinos for no reason.
What gamemode?
Do you have extra Gigas? I could pay for one.
Post official PVP Mjolnir with timestamp
FFXII has an MMO feel to it. It was actually originally going to be an MMO but that idea was scrapped. There's also those Sword Art Online games that kinda capture the feel of an MMO world. Same thing with the .hack series. I used to look up what games felt like offline MMOs because there would be times years ago where my internet connection sucked so hard I couldn't have fun with online games and MMOs are pretty much my favorite genre but I couldn't just let go of that feel of playing one so I had to substitute it with offline games that feel like it.
From where are you?

why didn't the thread end here?
>crom coins

Minecraft is better
ARK is basically Pokemon.
And Pokemon is garbage
Congratulations
"What?"

I'm starting to think that nutriments Black person keeps making these threads because he likes the abuse
Ark is a terrible game
ARK is one of the most varied and deep sandboxes available.
sandboxes are shallow and boring just like your mom
"I like linear games."
No its not. Elona+ is a deep sandbox, ARK is quite linear
Elona is a 2D game.
ARK is a 3D PvP shooter.
yeah and only one of them is a sandbox
Quality of posts is very important.
>mostly useless bullshit
ark is a bad game. The dinos just stand there and do nothing, would be nice if you could have some interaction with them.
>mostly useless bullshit
It's obviously not; being able to optimize consumable items in a survival game is useful.
So you admit that in that list only a handful of items are actually worth it? Then why are you arguing with me?
>run at you and spam M1
Damn, great AI you got here. Its on par with zombies.
pkgmh
>So you admit that in that list only a handful of items are actually worth it?
Some items are more relevant than others; that's OK.
>run at you and spam M1
Creatures that have special abilities use them.
woah is that a moving goalpost
Beavers build dams that you can raid for shit
Carnivores will ruin an area if left alone
All of them lose their shit if you steal an egg
>woah is that a moving goalpost
no its not but I'll humor you
>Beavers build dams that you can raid for shit
zero interaction, it just appears in their spawn area and then they get mad, whoopdedoo
>Carnivores will ruin an area if left alone
moronic mindless aggression, zombie ai
>All of them lose their shit if you steal an egg
and they just mash M1 at you like everything else.
lol
lmao even
>some interaction with them.
You mean other than trying to fricking eat you or each other?
>No alcohol
>All drugs are literally just different colored berries
>No vegies or greens of any kind, not even for herbivores who are strictly on a berry diet
>Every animal makes fart sounds when they poop
The game is a joke and you are a paid shill.
>No alcohol
Yeah.
>All drugs are literally just different colored berries
What?
>No vegies or greens of any kind, not even for herbivores who are strictly on a berry diet
Herbivores have Sweet Veggie Cakes, which heal them.
>Every animal makes fart sounds when they poop
No, they don't.
both of these statements are correct
i love ark but i also hate it
>Thread #3
Playing it on a PS4 is suffering.
>Input lag
>Crashes
>The weird low poly models
The snow owl triangle thing gets me every time.
I want populated servers.
It's one of the most played games on Steam.
stop bumping this thread
>"I shouldn't be on Ganker."
Come together.
My little brother is obsessed with this game, but I don't see the appeal. I got sick of the game three hours in.
please use "sage" if you need reply to this thread, thanks!
Would you like a cup of water? I'm sure you have something better to do than trying to gatekeep content on Ganker.
take your meds, I'm sure you have something better to do than make the same threads everyday on Ganker
Posting about video games between playing, snacks, and other merriment is something to do and fun.
calling you a schizo and derailing your threads is fun too

Reminder that money to Ark is money for abortion.
https://survivetheark.com/index.php?/articles.html/community-crunch-321-evo-event-community-corner-and-more-r1955/
"Today, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade regarding abortion as a constitutional right in the United States. Studio Wildcard believes that bodily autonomy and reproductive rights are fundamental human rights, and this ruling heralds the erosion of American liberties.
This impacts the lives of our employees, and we are committed to supporting their right to make their own choice and we are providing them with the healthcare and resources they need to support that personal decision.
In spite of the Supreme Court ruling, U.S. voters can still protect reproductive freedom at the State level, and now it is up to all of us what happens next through our voices at the polls. If you are one of the vast majority of people who support a woman's right to choose, it's time to get out and vote.
We have also donated to Abortion Funds (https://abortionfunds.org/). If you would like to support them, you can do so here: https://abortionfunds.org/donate.
I mean, if it's illegal, it's not money for abortion.
frick off nutriments Black person
Ark is still in the early access phase. They never fixed any of the problems with optimisation and gameplay. All they did was keep adding paid DLC
Oh boy, another Ganker schizo that will spam this thread for months to come.
