You can also play the Danganronpa Another (DRA) fangame duology, if you're lucky enough to read korean. Also lower production values (RPG maker), but the second game improves significantly on the visuals. They both lack voice acting save for the interjections. They are english translated, but the first game translator only worked on chapter 1 and some other guys used MTL for the rest. The second game (SDRA2) has a better english translation, but you need to play the first game to understand plot points introduced in it.
Okay is the fangame duology really worth the time of someone that's not moronic. I liked DR2 a lot but V3 was mostly a letdown. Would the fangames be more of the same?
Difficult to say without spoiling. The first game is similar to DR, and the second game to DR2. In my opinion, the SDRA2-3 case and class trial really came close to 2-5 in terms of quality and hype for me, I was positively surprised considering it came from a cheap fan game.
The writer tried to incorporate elements from the spinoff (Another Episode) and had his own takes regarding the ultimate/SHSL talents, fully embracing the moronation especially for the luck talent or plot beats regarding the mastermind in the second game. You'll understand if you play them
I'm only recommending them if you liked DR and somehow wish for more despite V3.
None of their endings is as bad as V3 btw, in fact the ending of DRA was really surprising. Characters were better in the first game.

I dont get why people hate v3 but like dr2. The endings are pretty similar. I'd argue the v3 cast and setting is actually better then 2s which made the whole experience better.
