Genuinely one of the best of all time, only held back from a 10 by technical issues like pop-in and monsters phasing through terrain.
That said, Unknown Worlds are one of the biggest 'lightning in a bottle' studios of all time. Made Natural Selection and had no idea why it was good so they never capitalized upon it. Made Subnautica 1, had no idea what made it good and raped almost every part of the game that made it good in the second one.
Play Subnautica 1, it's really good. Don't play 2, it genuinely isn't worth a minute of your time, nonetheless your money. Expect nothing from 3 (yes it is being made, they've confirmed it and EA is schedule for some time in 2025), UWE got bought by Koreans in 2021. They've said it will have co-op but that it won't be "multiplayer-focused". I played dead space 3 though, so I have no expectations.
If we're lucky people shitting on S2 for its land sections and voiced protag will actually influence them in the right direction but who the frick knows.
