GW2's one isn't REALLY an expansion as much as they're marketing it as one. In reality, they're putting in about half as much effort for a $5 price decrease. Arena Net didn't stick to yearly paid expansions they should have done from day one.

Legion's gameplay was utterly trash compared to previous expansions, yet people sucked it off like it was the Second Coming of Christ just because it followed the abortion that was WoD. BfA's problems were rooted in Legion being an inherently flawed expansion. And it's not a new phenomenon, there were people even during Legion who thought it was a great expansion despite complaining about the gameplay changes.
Legion was really REALLY fricking bad, but I can see why some people like it in retrospec.
They did eventually fix alot of the issues from what I understand and more importantly the premise of the expansion "felt" right. Almost like the end of an era. It was full of epic shit and cool moments. Smugidan being one of them.
While WoD felt like an abortion and even back than people did not really like the idea of multiverses/multiple time lines. BFA not only had all the problems mechanically as Legion but also blew threw like 3-4 expansion worth of ideas.
Legion also wasted an expansion idea with Argus. And while they fixed some issues over the course of the expansion, they introduced new ones as well.
I guess all this got buried under people gushing about Mythic+ and the class stories/Suramar.
