The fact SEGA has to dig up their old IPs from literally 23 years ago because nothing they make today holds any value is pretty pathetic.

      >no sakura wars

They must be aware of the nostalgia to those games so I want to believe that they'll put 1/3 of their original effort into the games, also it's not so hard to please the original fans

JSR needs more than music since JSRF expanded the gameplay and gave us less arcade-y game loops. I'd prefer a hybrid that still kept the scope small.

Streets of Rage is honestly what I'm scared most about considering we have a direct modern comparison done with more love and care in Streets of Rage 4. Think Sonic Mania and Sonic Superstars. I'm cautiously optimistic there.

Shinobi looks like it's being done by the SoR4 team though but that's based only on the artstyle at quick glance, so more hopeful there.

        Its sega.

Think about this for a minute and how much everything will cost. All these games will be short and done on the cheap. Quantity over quality.

Sega have fricked up every game they have had over the past few years. This will be no different.
Streets of rage being a reboot and 3d should be the first warning sign. Then a censored 3d golden axe...coz that worked great last time huh

Oh yeah an arcade resurgence would make life a hell of a lot easier for sega, but still, crazy taxi probably has 10x the name recognition and fanbase of JSR, that's more largely my point

            Anonymous

Gotcha, and definitely agree. Hopefully focusing on JSR was a Game Awards hardcore thing more so than indicative of release schedule. Crazy taxi would be an easier impulse buy

yup. we're at a point where creative licensing could do wonders to solidify soid IP. imagine chasing down a car that has michael trevor and franklin hanging out the windows. or spike faye and jet.

segas got to get in there and get some bangers so people play a game and think "yeah this is a sega game" in a good way

This would be really neat, I hope they can pull it off

        >they are exactly what fans wanted, with a AA budget
        >they sell like shit
        >sega never revisits these again

It’s all so predictable. When Jet Set Radio flops, I wonder if they even release the rest

Sega games are mostly about music anyway. People online are going to be overly fond of certain nostalgia bait titles, but all these games need to come out and be refiltered through an ecosystem.

Yes, tony hawk 2 is better than jet set. But wrappng up a game of Tony hawk 2 makes switching to jet set all the more fun.

Segas got to get some good developers together and start rebuilding its platform.

Because you idiots are sleeping on their games. Yakuza and Persona are making bank because they're actually GOOD, and now that they have money again, they're using that money to bring back gamr development again instead of inflating CEO checks.
I don't understand why people have this predetermined mindset that Sega sucks and that's that. Outside of Sonic and PSO, their games are more often than not leaps and bounds ahead of the competition in terms of quality.

SEGA has so many fantastic IPs that have been laying dormant since the Genesis days, no idea why they decided to just ignore so many of the IPs they had when the Saturn came out, though with the Dreamcast it makes more sense since it lasted for about 3 years before being taken out of the market for good. I hope this trailer means that they'll revive more IPs from now on aswell.

I personally would love to see Bonanza Bros. and Kid Chameleon, Altered Beast, Comic Zone, Ecco and Vectorman make a comeback, and there are even more good IPs I didn't even mention here.

              It's complicated
At first, Sega said it was one game
Then, Hyneas started to get leaked
Sega said that "Hyneas" wasn't the super game
Then Hyneas gets announced and Sega backtracks and says it is the super game
Then they backtrack again and say Hyneas is only one of "many" super games they have in development
And of course everyone knows Hyneas got canceled.

Basically, we don't know what this super game or super games are, because Sega keeps changing the definition every other week.
What I really think happened is that Sega silently canceled their true super game because it was never officially reelvaed, and are simply taking advantage of marketing by saying whatever game comes out within the next 5 years is said "Super Game"

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/video-games/2023/12/08/sega-reboots-crazy-taxi-jet-set-radio/

In the 1990s, Sega marketed itself as being the counterculture. Its TV commercials had a guy screaming the company’s name, representing a “rebel yell” against Nintendo’s dominance of the games industry.
That same yell returned in a trailer at the Game Awards in Los Angeles on Thursday night. The trailer showcases five new games from Sega series that mostly have been dormant for more than a decade: “Crazy Taxi,” “Golden Axe,” “Jet Set Radio,” “Shinobi” and “Streets of Rage.”
“Golden Axe” and “Streets of Rage” are traditionally 2D brawler games now being adapted to 3D. “Crazy Taxi” was an arcade hit centered around time-based street racing that’s getting a modern update. “Shinobi” seems to stay true to its 2D action roots but stylized with colorful flat-shaded animation. And the Tony Hawk-inspired “Jet Set Radio” will get a second chance after amassing a small but loud cult following.
Sega co-chief operating officer and Sega of America CEO Shuji Utsumi said this is a strategy he initiated that’s finally bearing fruit. Utsumi was instrumental in launching Sony’s first PlayStation console and Sega’s last console, the Dreamcast.
“We really want to show edginess and a rebellious mind-set,” said Utsumi, recalling Sega’s cultural impact as the “alternative” game console.
The Dreamcast was Sega’s last console before the company made the historic decision to become just a games publisher and developer, conceding the console market to Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft. Despite its failure, it’s grown a loyal cult following that recognizes how the machine was ahead of its time, including having built-in online connectivity.

Utsumi said when he returned to Sega four years ago, he found a “treasure trove” of intellectual property to revisit. Originally for Dreamcast, “Jet Set Radio” (2000) was an experimental game that mixed extreme sports, 3D platforming and graffiti art, a concept so unique it was only replicated earlier this year by another studio.
Utsumi said these legacy series can find second life now that the games industry has a captive global market large enough to sustain Sega’s weirder concepts. Utsumi has firsthand knowledge of testing strange concepts as co-founder of Q Entertainment, a studio behind games that played with the concept of synesthesia and dance music.
"Shinobi" is a classic Sega console and arcade series, and a new title was announced at Thursday's Game Awards in Los Angeles. (Sega)
“The concept of games like ‘Jet Set Radio’ is advanced. The original creators are involved again, and its time is now,” he said. “It’s a good time where people can appreciate all kinds of concepts.”
Utsumi credited three ongoing Sega franchises for holding up the company in recent years: Sonic the Hedgehog, which has now released two blockbuster Hollywood films; Yakuza, the crime drama (now rebranded as Like a Dragon) that’s grown a large U.S. following; and Persona, the role-playing series about mystery-solving teens.
“We’ve been investing into these three titles the last three years, making these pillars grow, and they grew very well,” he said.
Sega also promises to revive even more legacy properties. Fighting game fans have been wondering why the first 3D fighter series Virtua Fighter is so dormant. Utsumi said the company is aware of the game’s niche status.
“We are evaluating right now. Virtua Fighter doesn’t use so many tricks, special moves like in Street Fighter, it’s very realistic,” Utsumi said. “How can we make it more dramatic? It’s something we’re working on.”

Pretty fricking based list I have actual hope, BUT
    Where is Phantasy star 5
Where is Shining in the darkness 2
    Where is a new Oasis
    Where is a new Outrun
I could go on but I'd rather leave letting you know that Shadow Dancer is OBJECTIVELY better than Shinobi 3.

While that might be true it doesn't look like complete shovelware either, and it depends on the music, gameplay and the background. Future sucked because it went too far onto the futuristic aesthetic, missing the point by a fricking mile.

It seems like instead of the cubism futuristic feel Jet set Radio future have they're going with a more glossy glassy modernized feel in the buildings, as well as some comic book looking stuff with the chromatic aberration. Don't really dig it so far. A lot of people are fine with it cause well it looks cel shaded at least! but these people are simpletons. Even BRC understood the cubism aspect of the game.
