I really liked the lore of Fable 1. The existence of the old kingdom was mainteined by a corrupted power but the same power that allowed its existence was the one that led to its destruction.
Then Fable 2 happens... look the king of the old kingdom was depressed and utilized a wishing granting machine to destroy the civilization. I don't know why they changed the lore... also the idea of theresa being still alive is stupid.
When I started up Fable 2, my brain kept saying "bro don't trust her, she's going to be like KotOR Kreia" only to later realize that she is basically Jesus in that universe.
Which is such a cop-out too. Like consider what the other anon said about the Spire and then remember Theresa set all of that in motion. She's responsible for Lucien's drive to build the damn thing, its on her hands all the suffering that comes of it but then the burden of repair is laid entirely on the player who is pigeonholed into wishing everything back to normal. Then she takes the thing and all its power for herself immediately afterward.
it literally tells you in one of the loading screens that that is true anon
your hero used the sword of aeons against jack
which also means he killed teresa
even though she's still alive
also the guild moved 200 miles away from bowerstone and a lake formed around it
I honestly don't remember many RPG villains at all. They mostly seem to be just monsters or evil gods. I remember Jack though. Fable 1 is the only good Fable game.
i played through Fable Anniversary on pc like a month ago and I really don't know how people look back on it with such fondness
Probably the most "okay" game i've ever played
>Anniversary
That's part of the problem but I'll admit even the OG release when it first launched was a solid 6/10 so you aren't exactly wrong. It wasn't groundbreaking and despite Peter's best efforts to the contrary it didn't frick up much either so it was just a really solid title and the TLC followup wrapped up the original title well. Later installments would fail to reach that level of consistent delivery as more and more interference worked it's way in though.
Yeah, even as a kid I thought it was fun but pretty mediocre. I assume anyone calling it the last good RPG just doesn't really play RPGs or actually like the genre.
ok demake slopper. Its such the same that they still sell both versions when every other remade game gets replaced on the store. How do you account for that?

Nope. >answering a question with a question
I think we know who the real ESL is.
graphics change, the ui is totally different and completely shit, changed the designs on a bunch of characters, I think the control scheme got changed too but maybe that was just the xbox version.
Its basically the soul to souless trend that remakes follow. Not as bad as something like warcraft 3 remake but its still pretty bad.
Once completed, Theresa makes a wish and states that her time in this world is over and that a new age is upon us. She then gives the heart of the Spire to Gabriel and vanishes. Gabriel absorbs Theresa's powers into the gauntlets and defeats the Corruptor. Gabriel then finds Theresa's blindfold in the sand, revealing Gabriel himself to now be blind.
Will this ever be brought up in 4?
When I was younger playing this I was really into it because the setting is actually kindof neat, but they did nothing with it and kindof moved past it in subsequent games. >was an invader from another dimension with 2 others, the queen and knight of blades >tried to conquer world that they saw was corrupt and war addled, the first time they asked and were refused they burned the earth, the second time they lifted the sea and flooded it, the third time they promised to bring peace, but were refused again >so in order to have peace in the world they just mind controlled everyone they could >hero emerges, defeats knight and queen, jack realizes he cant win and teleports the hero and himself back to his dimension to be able to beat him >hero manages to find sword of aeons here, Jack just gave him the means to destroy the link between their worlds inadvertantly >kills Jack, he survives via the mask >he returns and people treat him as a hero, the mind control is still in effect >we never see where they came from but it is essentially heaven, and the queen knight and jack were angels sent to bring peace to a world that no longer believed in gods >god abandoned them because they turned evil in pursuit of peace, and Jack became the universes Satan. He would not return to heaven, he would be sent somewhere else, where he would later return as a dragon >the other dimensions is where all the magic in the world leaked in from for good and evil
2 really winds me up. It's a story about how a man with essentially a noble goal causes suffering to many people because his ends justify any means, you go to stop this and you have personal loss and investment in doing so.
You stop it and the game goes "Yeah all that suffering its cool here's the genie's wish you have to use it" I don't want to fricking use it, that essentially says causing all this suffering was worth it but the issue was who got the wish not what was being done to create it.
I wanted to walk away from the spire as a demonstration its a part of human nature to suffer loss yet not let it break you.
Instead you just co-opt the bad guy's shit and the moral becomes "Just kill whoever has the cool shit its yours now"
The entire series has problems like this. In Fable 3, I was really invested when you get sent into the family tomb and find the music box from Fable 2, only for it to make a brief appearance and frick off for the rest of the game. It's never relavent again. What the frick is that?
Thats only a theory, I know its suggested but its never actually confirmed. All we know is that he came from the void that William dissapeared in, but so did Jack. If Jack is the mask, then whos body is he using.
he was an old force wanting to be reunited with his weapon and having a personal feud with your bloodline.
if you take in Fable 2 then he was part of a trio of powerful cenobites, the Jack, the Knight and the Queen.
They came from the void and laid claim over the world and sometime during their rule a man found a tomb or a tome,I don't remember which, that led to their sanctum and took the Sword of Aeons and through that act he learned the ways of will.
Using the sword he atomized the knight, smote the Jack and lastly fought the queen in a battle that mirrored what DBZ implies to be sundering mountains and upheaving the land.
Though in the end the queen too was killed and free from their yoke this hero took the title of First Archon and united all under his banner and laid the foundations of the Old Kingdom.
I like that the old kingdom as far as you could see it the first game atleast was a cruel and harsh empire with with mangled monsters as guards and dead interned in magic armor and many a device powered souls.
I like the implied gnostic undertones of Aeon vs Archeon and the brutal danger of the world vs the sillyness of the inhabitants
>be archon >turn yourself undead >periodically reappear throughout history to groom your female descendants during their teenage years >never elaborate
one thing I often miss in virtual forests or other terrain is detritus and the shrub layer as a whole.
in fable they put it all beside the path but at least they put it in there making the places more as part of a world and not just another grassy rolling sine wave with trees.
I never figured out how you were supposed to do that yeti quest at the start of the game, when you're supposed to take the bee killing quest. This has haunted me ever since I played fable on release
He supposed to be primordial evil spirit. He doesn't have any motivation, he's just pure evil and he likes to do evil things. That's it. And I like it more than 'grey morale' bullshit or crybaby origin stories. I just fricking tired of postmodern philosophy, it leads to nowhere.
I played TLC and Fable III multiple times, but I never played Fable II due to not having access to it on PC. However, the additional bits of the lore that I'm reading in this thread seem pretty cool. Is it worth it to see a playthrough on youtube or something...?
Jack of Blades was the last good fantasy RPG villian, change my mind. And Fable was the last good single player RPG. troony Gate 3 don't @ me.
For me fable 2 and 3 never happened.

I Head Canon that the evil route in lost chapters is canon, and that’s why the heroes guild is dead in fable 2.
one of the loading screens in 2 implies that the hero of oakvale killed the guildmaster
Had to be done, Black person wanted to torture my moms soul for all eternity.
it literally tells you in one of the loading screens that that is true anon

You fricked up, moron
i googled "anniversary or tlc" and the majority of what i found said anniversary
blame the people
moron
Its a product of its time, you had to be there, a lot of the stuff it does is just normal in games now, but back then it was unique.
>Anniversary

You deserve it. TLC was right there and you clicked on the demake just because it has achievements instead. Suffer for it.
never played anniversary, whats the difference besides graphics ?
different UI. that's it. it plays exactly the same and has the exact same content. these other anons are just coping.
ok demake slopper. Its such the same that they still sell both versions when every other remade game gets replaced on the store. How do you account for that?

is honestly pretty fricking ugly and i only played anniversary.
when people post images of the OG it feels like anniversary is the old ugly game.
don't email you? what?
jack has no motivation besides "durr I want the cool evil sword" and like most characters in fable, only shows up once or twice and then dies
I don't recall - was his endgame really just "I wanna rule :("
>turns into a fricking dragon
What did they mean by this?
reminder that the Fable story ended with this awful awful Kinect gimmick shovelware that nobody fricking played
>ended
Uh, sir?
No one is going to play that shit so it may aswell not exist.
I genuinely like him as a comedian, but God damn did that trailer make him look fricking horrible
IRL famous trash in my game?
heh, not my game
Reeboot
Idk this homosexual but he looks like an early 10s hipster with blackface
rebooted story, beleive it or not that shitty kinect game was CANON. Though i'm looking forward this since it seems like a cool mix of fable 1 and 2.

I doubt it considering I don't think a lot of people cared about Journey.
God, i wish i was cool like him
He was cool, you'd be like him if you were cool too.

The hero who killed Jack originally was Scythe and he wasn’t mind controlled.
Nah it was someone called William Black, the first "hero" and the protagonists descendent..
…who is literally the same character as Scythe
Thats only a theory, I know its suggested but its never actually confirmed. All we know is that he came from the void that William dissapeared in, but so did Jack. If Jack is the mask, then whos body is he using.

I have a super vague memory of starting a new game right after i beat it and having those quests available for some reason.
mute the video and start watching at say 54 seconds in.
I want Fable where nymphs steal and eat children not tinkerbell expies that get eaten by toads and I want giants as a race not large tv celebrities.

Lost Chapters voice was shit
Remaster graphics were shit
Fable has only ever had one good villain, and that's OG Jack.
I played TLC and Fable III multiple times, but I never played Fable II due to not having access to it on PC. However, the additional bits of the lore that I'm reading in this thread seem pretty cool. Is it worth it to see a playthrough on youtube or something...?
he's in a shitty remake
