My first experience with the Battle Network games was this collection, and I really enjoyed 1. More than 2 so far even, so don't lean too hard on what the veterans say. Just give it a whirl in your preferred order.
Everyone shits on 4 though, so I'm not looking forward to that.
>and I really enjoyed 1. More than 2 so far even
Then go play Operate Shooting Star next time you try it because the original one is so rough around the edges it's painful.
4's rough to recommend. A single playthrough's fine, but it suffers on repeat playthroughs. This is also the one game that explicitly asks you to do repeat playthroughs. There's a mechanic called Souls where you get to copy an ally's powers. There are 6 in total, but you only get 3 in the first run, 2 in the second. And the last one in your third. The postgame area is also locked behind you having all 6 Souls.
Scenarios are randomized, and you can get repeats, making subsequent playthroughs more tedious than they have to be.
wrong, 3 is the best, thats where the series peak not that 5 and 6 are bad, they are actually pretty good, 4 is absolute dog shit and you can skip it and not worry about missing anything from the story
I'm honestly fine with this. People need to remember this was way before anime became as popular as it's now, and normies didn't know as much about japanese culture. Most people probably wouldn't know what the frick takoyaki is.
Is the takoyaki logo supposed to look like a duck's head?
I like that they actually put some effort into making it a hotdog stand and know it was a more ignorant time, but I just can't agree with localization changes like that. In the end it's treating the audience like idiots and discouraging them from learning about things from outside of their own culture.
Given this isn't a lazy change and the sprites are actually adjusted to match, this is fine by me. If the sign said hot dogs but it still served takoyaki I'd get annoyed.
they did way better things with the characters from that game in the anime
They tried to copy pokemon. I think they have version exclusive chips.
the only difference in 3 is the chip codes, and one boss is not in the other game, for the rest of the series the difference is the bosses you fight (and also chip codes i think) and the giga chips
4 definitely had some good ideas, even if the game executed them like buttcheeks. Megaman gaining powers from others, like classic Megaman; expanding on Dark Chips that 3 vaguely brought up; ayys; etc.
dark chips werent in 3, i preffered the style changes, but the soul unisions were a cool idea, it was like getting the boss' power from the original games like you said
4 has less variety than 3 but you can still pull some fun combos. 5 has weaker standalone chips overall (you need to setup with souls/terrain to do busted damage) but has way more variety than 4 and 6 is pure insanity.
im assuming once you are on the third playthrough you get more variety, like i said i've beaten bass in that game before but that was when i was 10 years old i dont remember the details, same with 5 and 6, the first 3 games are still fresh on my mind because i replayed them a few months ago, and i 100% for the first time, well i didnt 100% 2 because i just could not get the final secret chip, and i farmed it for 20 hours total, im not joking, i just had to give up i got so sick of it, and i refuse to cheat
man i started replaying all of the games last may im at battle network 5 right now since i was playing other stuff plus doing other shit with my life, im 100% all except for the first game and i just gave up on 100% 4 since this games sucks so much dick is unbearable
4 has less variety than 3 but you can still pull some fun combos. 5 has weaker standalone chips overall (you need to setup with souls/terrain to do busted damage) but has way more variety than 4 and 6 is pure insanity.
Tomahawksoul is fine, Toadsoul is ugly but unfortunately, it's one of the main powerhouse Souls in the game, so you have no choice but to use it at some point. That's why I prefer the Team Protoman version. Protosoul alone dabs on every single Soul in the Colonel version
>Toadsoul is ugly but unfortunately, it's one of the main powerhouse Souls in the game
That's Knightsoul.
Tomahawk has cactusball and lance, grass buffed cactus can kill bosses quickly. Toad is more defensive though, ideally you use it to charge Geyser while you hide underwater and charge your stun to land attacks better.
[...]
You can do some things in 4 Red Sun in the first playthrough but for Blue Moon you'd need to be on the third playthrough to get more going on.
>Tomahawk has cactusball and lance, grass buffed cactus can kill bosses quickly
You just need good timing. >Toad is more defensive though, ideally you use it to charge Geyser while you hide underwater and charge your stun to land attacks better.
Which you need Seaseed.

Yes, but only if you have Areagrab* which is the rarest chip in the fricking game

Areagrab S goes well with Drillarm 2 S and Airhockey S

What. You don't use terrain chips at all?

5 drives me up the fricking wall. >Everything's weak as piss multi-hit chips that are only good within combos. >EVERY single fricking enemy has an invincibility/invisible/invulnerable phase so multi-hit chips are barely ever worth it except when you have a solid combination to lock them down. >Liberation missions are time limited and you have to deal with all these viruses with invulnerability phases and kill them in 3 turns (1 ideally) so you just hope for the perfect combination for the specific set of viruses every single battle. >Then endgame bloats the everloving PISS out of enemy HP.
is it really any wonder why everyone just gravitated toward dark soul unisions? They're the only things that deal a good amount of damage.
>You need strong fire chips like NapalmSP, grass seed and a VDoll and
And Lavaseed.

Lava seed is for multihits. Just landing a bomb on grass+hitting the doll is strong enough.
Also I meant blkbomb, NapalmSP is to do the same without the soul.
The chips and virus selection they give you ruins the game for me. Liberation missions are fine but the game they're in isn't. If 3 or 6 ever gets a rom-hack or something that had them people would realize they weren't why the game sucked.
yeah, i hate being forced to rely on the meta to be able to get a good busting level, i want my fricked up sword folder from 2 and 3 damn it
Mega Man fans are completely insane. Like the absolute most batshit crazy people in the games community. And that's saying something. >Are any of them good?
Not unless you are already a fan of mega man.
soul trannies and sonic fans exist so you are wrong
the problem is with this fricking obsession with making everything hyper realistic and open world but then having nothing interesting to fill that world with so its filled with shitty repetitive side quests and boring cutscenes with awful cinematography, for games that claim to be like movies they sure have really fricking bad cinematography
Mega Man fans are completely insane. Like the absolute most batshit crazy people in the games community. And that's saying something. >Are any of them good?

Just ignore the fact that it was one of the most successful series that brought in an entire new generation of fans on its own merit.
>What the frick why are there so many Battle Network games
You might not know this, but Battle Network is one of the most popular GBA series globally, only beaten out by Pokemon and Castlevania Aria of Sorrow.
The problem was that it took them way too fricking long to release it. By the time the collection came out everyone was already playing with roms on Tango with rollback netcode.
It doesn't help that it doesn't have crossplay either so that reduces the playerbase even more.
Guess trannies are more based than Crapcom then. At least they let me play 4.5 in english while Crapcom overcharges me just to play worse versions of previously released wii u roms
This, I played 4 right after 3 and they're literally the same game
The idea that the latter is the greatest game ever made and the former is irredeemable trash you should skip is some next level autism
They are all the same but megaman is cute so i play it
You certainly mean Roll, right
nOO
What is happening?
i love every roll but my personal favorite has to be caskett, my childhood wife
The artifacting on your image is pissing me off. God why does Facebook crunch the shit out of images.
i dont really see the difference but if you say this one is better then thanks anon
It's honestly probably not that bad to an untrained eye but it's something I became slightly autistic about a few years ago.
i feel you, im like that about sounds
moar
what about visible hair Roll
They started doing pokemon style exclusive stuff. Each game has a "main" version though that is more relevant than the others additions.
You can just get the whole collection on a gameboy emulator what the frick are you thinking anon.
Six main games, where 3-6 have dual versions like Pokemon. 6>3>5>2>1>4. Star Force series is also worth checking out.
Damn, I was planning to start in order but it's interesting to see that the last game in the series is actually the best
My first experience with the Battle Network games was this collection, and I really enjoyed 1. More than 2 so far even, so don't lean too hard on what the veterans say. Just give it a whirl in your preferred order.

I see, thanks for explaining. These days I don't care for 100% if the game asks for unreasonable time investments, so I guess I'll enjoy 4.
wrong, 3 is the best, thats where the series peak not that 5 and 6 are bad, they are actually pretty good, 4 is absolute dog shit and you can skip it and not worry about missing anything from the story
Hi anon.
congratulations man, i never had the patience to go beyond beating forte
Normal or XX?
All of them but 4 are good, 1 might also be mediocre, I haven’t played it in awhile
1 is primitive but serviceable. Would recommend playing Operate Star Force if you need a way to play it in the here and now.
I like the first one but the encounter rate is way too high, does that get better?
after playing ff4 the after years, i dont complain about encounter rates in any game, that game was a nightmare
Dunno but it has cute girls
2, 3 and 6 are good. 5 is alright if you like Liberation missions, if you don't like them then it's trash
because they went with the pokemon route and made 2 versions for trading purposes
Cringe
Are the games in full kana - is it a good idea for a beginner Jap learner?
it has some basic kanji like 見 and 行 but is largely kana
Frick it I'll do it, thanks
Hot dogs are popular in Japan too.
I'm honestly fine with this. People need to remember this was way before anime became as popular as it's now, and normies didn't know as much about japanese culture. Most people probably wouldn't know what the frick takoyaki is.

i dont think its a duck since takoyaki is octopus (i believe)
Given this isn't a lazy change and the sprites are actually adjusted to match, this is fine by me. If the sign said hot dogs but it still served takoyaki I'd get annoyed.
>Are any of them good?
no they are all boring gridwaggle card collection shit
only 4 is bad, the rest are great, you probably got filtered
you will never make "gridwaggle" take off
They did the pokemon thing.
1 2 and 3 are great especially 3 4 sucks dick and doesnt even have much of a story so you could skip 5 and 6 are allright
always thought that it was weird that 4 was the poorest-received of the games but had such a big role in the anime
they did way better things with the characters from that game in the anime
the only difference in 3 is the chip codes, and one boss is not in the other game, for the rest of the series the difference is the bosses you fight (and also chip codes i think) and the giga chips
Both versions of 3 had unique Giga Chips, Blue had two unique bosses, and White had one unique boss and a unique sub-folder.
two bosses? i know one was punk, who was the other?
Bowlman and Punk for Blue
Mistman for White
oh yeah you are right
4 definitely had some good ideas, even if the game executed them like buttcheeks. Megaman gaining powers from others, like classic Megaman; expanding on Dark Chips that 3 vaguely brought up; ayys; etc.

my personal favorite is 2 but 3 is the objectively best game
I love Mega Man mice.
>Flashman
>spam rats
I love 3's F code.
I love me some Flashman & Varsword spam. I never knew as a child that Flashman pierced invulnerability frames
They tried to copy pokemon. I think they have version exclusive chips.
capcom went insane with Megaman in the 00s so much so they completely burned out
the threads last year on release were comfy
i will miss them this april
man i started replaying all of the games last may im at battle network 5 right now since i was playing other stuff plus doing other shit with my life, im 100% all except for the first game and i just gave up on 100% 4 since this games sucks so much dick is unbearable
>when your waifu doesn't even show up in the games
She's in the first game.
they always bring back mr match but the never bring her back even once, at least in the anime she got a lot more screen time
And in the amazing Battle Chip Challenge.
i had that game and i gave it away to some friend
Poor friend of yours, being forced to play that turd of a game.
i wonder if that had anything to do with him trooning out
>tfw they put shuko in an uggo tracksuit in falzar
>tfw no jasmine in 6 period
Capcom invented one of the best action rpg combat systems in the genre, and they let the series die, again
god i hated how cucked you feel in 4 with the painfully limited selection of chips, you cant do any cool shit, were 5 and 6 like that?
4 has less variety than 3 but you can still pull some fun combos. 5 has weaker standalone chips overall (you need to setup with souls/terrain to do busted damage) but has way more variety than 4 and 6 is pure insanity.

luv colonelsoul
starting from 3 they just went the same way pokemon goes about their games.
