for both being games that were fricking massive on the internet in the late 2000's-early 2010's (from my faded recollection, and spm was mainly just Mr. L and dimentio), there's surprisingly little touhou/super paper mario crossover pictures. it's usually the previous two PM games.

                I love these little buggers

i like a lot of the unique enemies and npc's in this game and how digitally blocky they are, really encapsulates the time period this game was released in.
people complain about them not fitting in with the regular paper mario cast but that's meant to be the point since these dimensions are meant to be more digital than the normal world, you flip with a goddamn mouse cursor

no, flipside pit doesn't have back cursyas either.
probably did at some point which is why they have dark versions in the first place since the enemies on the floors don't change between flipside and flopside but they probably thought it was too much.
it's pretty interesting to see how many unused enemies this game has, quite a few returning foes from ttyd and 64 along with different variations of the new enemies that just never got use.

i wish at least only part of 7-4 was the overthere, the chapter crashes and burns the second you leave the underwhere and that was fun aside from the hag trio. maybe still have peach be in the overthere and 7-3 expects you to cross gaps with luig's super jump instead for a bit instead of it only being for verticality.
i'd say at least go for the cards and maps. didn't give a shit about the recipes when i played it.

not too sure but i'd say at least do flipside pit as soon as you can since dashell is pretty good, even if it's really easy to level up and make the game easier than it already is.
it also spoils the story if you check tippi's catch card from floor 10 which if you're playing blind then don't check it

Drawn to life isn't at all similar to Scribblenauts, even though I liked both. Drawn to life just has you drawing sprites, that's all that's to it. Scribblenauts really don't have any actual challenge in mechanical difficulty, rather it's a puzzle game where you write things and they'll appear. You use the things you make to solve puzzles.

                Anonymous

Ah I see, guess I didn’t know much about the series like I thought. I always heard people compare the two like DtL was the off-brand version of Scribblenauts or something lol

How do the Squigs break the game? Was there some sort of exploit or glitch involving them?

Yes. You know the ones that shoot the rocks at you? You can bounce off of the rocks over and over and each time you bounce without touching the ground you’ll get 10 more experience points than the last time (10, 20, 30, etc.), until eventually you’re getting thousands of experience points per bounce. The earliest rock shooting squig is like 30 minutes into the game so you can exploit this very early, although it becomes much easier to do once you get Carrie in chapter 3.

Minecraft and Terraria have more in common than Scribblenauts and Drawn To life. But it's such a bizarre comparison I see people bring up, probably has to do with the naming convention. Just remember "Scribble" in Scribblenauts is more like scribbling down a note, not scribbling a drawing.

                >Minecraft and Terraria have more in common
I would argue those two games do have a fair bit in common. At least if you play Minecraft like it's an adventure game instead of a building sandbox.

                Anonymous

It's not some facetious comparison; the two DO share a lot in common. But, you play them and you'll know Terraria play more like an MMORPG+Boss Rush+Metroidvania hybrid with a LOT of progression gating while Minecraft is more of a Sandbox game with light progression mechanics. It's just sloppy analogy on my part, sorry about that. Scribblenauts and Drawn to life are very different games despite the superficial resemblance of theme.

The Scribblenauts games on the DS were fun. The real appeal, which for some reason they moved away from in the later entries from what I played, was the sandbox mode. You could spawn whatever you wanted and see how they interact. Could stage battles and stuff like that.
There was also the puzzle mode which was alright but the sandbox was more entertaining.
Played a bit of Drawn to Life, don't know which one because I think there were a few.

people shit on the crag block password but your post is exactly why i love it, it's the devs completely fricking with you knowing you'll get mad. and even then it still tells you to write it down possibly for replays so you don't have to do it again. not gonna defend 2-3's password though, the point is to do labor but that level's just boring unless you write the password down there too

How do the Squigs break the game? Was there some sort of exploit or glitch involving them?

squigs and their variations can shoot rocks but only a couple at a time before walking a bit, unless you're on carrie or some other trick before you get her i think in which case they'll just repeat the process forever, rocks also don't have a point deduction for if you bounce on enough things in a chain. you figure out the rest.

i know we're on Ganker haha epic funni i hate video games soooo much, but i'm not exaggerating my disgust towards spm even a little bit. i've tried replaying it because i'd love to be able to better articulate specifically why, but just the intro alone gives me cringe chills and a headache. do you know how much dialogue you have to suffer through in between the mind-numbing gameplay? it's like it was written by millennial hideo kojima. i'm so sorry that i just wasn't mature enough to appreciate writing like this when i was 12 years old.

I just played this part yesterday, it’s hilarious. Especially the [Mario gets up with a mean look on his face] part, I remember laughing out loud and saying “oh shit Mario looks like he’s about to beat the frick outta him” where he squared up on the little green gay. Just lighten up man

ttyd feels like a lived-in world and an adventure with a lot of silliness
spm feels like a 2000s chat room improv comedy marathon which later becomes deeply pretentious and melodramatic. for some that is kino. for others it is being waterboarded

It’s weird seeing people actually genuinely discuss this game again outside of when it first released. I used to post that I like SPM better in TTYD threads for years and I only ever got the most bootyblasted reponses.
But I still like the original best of all

I like SPM more than TTYD and I’ll admit it’s probably nostalgia since I played it first. Honestly I’ve only ever played 64 and TTYD once but I’m on my 5th playthrough of SPM at the moment lmao

Super Paper Mario has my favorite OST out of all Mario RPGs and that is an EXTREMELY tight competition
That song is excellent, one of my favorites on the soundtrack. Shame about the level being so long, lol.

Also a memory of mine. I am reminded of the time where I used to watch my older brother play Paper Mario games and I would just watch, it's how I was first introduced to these games and their stories. I couldn't be older than 10 or so while I watched him.
I can remember during the time when he was at this level and I would twirl and dance while he was playing it cuz I really liked the music.

the problems it has stem from super's lacking level design in general and only being tied to mario. i get it's because once you get the other characters there would be no use for mario since he can't speak in cutscenes, but it just makes most of the times you have to switch to 3d lame.
they should've given you the option to go back to bestovius to give the other three the ability, but for an increasing cost after he gave it to mario for free. so you could stick with mario being your only flipping character or rack up enough coins to give it to the other three possibly to open up secrets.

I agree, but at the same time I'm having a hard thinking about what could have really been done with that. Especially considering the shitty sideways Wiimote controls.

I can’t really see myself ever trudging all the way through Sticker Star, but the couple chapters of Color Splash I played back in the day seemed alright. I remember that game being super funny but my humor may be different now. I didn’t like the combat using cards or whatever to attack. Does Origami King still use the cards or is it closer to TTYD?

      Anonymous

origami king is at least better than the two before it but i still didn't feel it. there's no cards/stickers for the battle system but the rotating gimmick while neat for a bit does get boring quick. think i played up to around two streamers in before stopping despite not hating it. just never felt like going back.

Unironically I think Color Splash was a more enjoyable experience than TOK. The games are super similar in style and humor but I feel TOK was way more drawn out and padded with unfun shit in the overworld (mainly collecting Toads). I should note I never see my opinion shared but I don't know if that's due to the fact no one really played CS or people just really prefer Color Splash: Paper Jam edition (TOK).
To answer your question though TOK's battle system is unlike either game though I feel it leans closer to SS/CS than PM64/TTYD due to a lack of variety in action commands being hyperfocused on the idea of puzzel-based combat with your goal being to kill normal enemies in 1 turn.

        Anonymous

        >due to the fact no one really played CS
I'd put my bet on that. After getting singed by SPM and then immolated by SS, nobody and I mean NOBODY gave CS a chance, and that's before it was put on the dead console called the Wii U. Only reason OK gets any talking points is because they made an interview about how "they're going back to basics" and a puppet made a video about it. That and the usual contrarians.
All Origami King showed was that, quite ironically, I really wish that they'd just make it an action adventure game instead of shoehorning in ANY different screen combat. I don't like SPM for a multitude of reasons, but Christ almighty at least it didn't feel like it was wasting my time the way any of the latter three do.

I enjoyed them. The only one that annoyed me was the Sammer kingdom the first time you go through it where you don't fight. I don't get why they made you go through so many rooms. That part dragged on too long.

yes, the one where you need to go through, find an apple that wakes peach up, get to the top, and then get told you need to search all the samey rooms for the apple that makes shit big.
