What was his problem? Why the frick did he sabotage Galar's main energy source if there won't be energy shortages in the region for the next 1000 years? Why suddenly act now? He reminds me of activists who shut down German nuclear power plants because "muh climate change and Fukushima incident". Now Germany have to burn more coal and pollute the environment even more because Russia cut their natural gas lol.
maybe something in his past made him actually hate the people of Galar or he was just an attention prostitute
He loves Galar but his plan is moronic.
He's not galarian.
>or he was just an attention prostitute
This plus
He's based on that Paki mayor of London who declared terrorism is part and parcel of living in a city.
Not so green now are we?
all that bullshit and Russia is winning anyway
did people actually ever think that a third world country could win against the second strongest military power in the world?
No, but with how much damage they did I don't think we can say Russia was the 2nd strongest military to begin with.
But EU told me climate change is the greatest threat of humanity? What happened?
Virtue signaling stops once shit hits the fan.
Climate change is a sham.
there are areas that are undergoing chain droughts and famines.
>Can't go a second without discussing politics maymay
There's an audience for this shit, and a Pokemon board ain't it, sweetheart.
Well I mean, what else are they going to do? Wait on the mass-production of HUNDREDS of alternative green energy sources while their economies collapse and potentially thousands of people die in the interim? No. They needed a quick solution, and unfortunately, drastic times call for drastic measures. Desperation is a powerful force. I'm sure most of them are hoping this turns out to be short-term.
>I'm sure most of them are hoping this turns out to be short-term.
Not sure why they would assume this unless they themselves are planning to just immediately bend the knee to russia as soon as they can without backlash. In the end I'd wonder why they thought tying their entire energy production to russia was a smart idea.
>In the end I'd wonder why they thought tying their entire energy production to russia was a smart idea.
Because this is still a fossil fuel world and Europe still has lot of industry it needs to provide power to.
Yeah but do you really want to bet you economy on this generally unstable foreign power remaining stable?
And the alternative is...
Oh yeah, nuclear, which they had but got rid of to virtue signal. Face it, Europe is fricking moronic. The doers and thinkers embraced the challange of the new world and two world wars whittled down the rest to what you get begat from the men too weak and stupid to be drafted.
>Oh yeah, nuclear, which they had but got rid of to virtue signal
Nuclear cannot provide all the energy supply anon. Many Hydro and Unclear states in the EU still make use of a futon of fossil fuels because there's so much shit you CANNOT replace at all in car/transportation fuel and manufacturing.
TL:DR as long as energy consumption continues to rise developed states and the developing states that are catching up will compete on the oil and gas markets.
Nuclear states are less fricked compared to Germany who fricked themselves over by shutting down most of their nuke reactors. It's ironic krauts buy their electricity from France that came from its domestic nuclear energy.
Frick you moron.
Euros have nothing to blame but themselves. These are the same morons who gut domestic energy production.
>and potentially thousands of people die in the interim
Yes, we have an overpopulation problem, a few countries being wiped out would be a good thing for the species as a whole not to mention the planet, it happened plenty of times in the past due to wars anyway. While I'm at it, WW3 would be a good thing because people would shut up about moronic things for a while.
OH NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
galar particles are (presumably) finite resources and as far as i know there isn't a way to create them, aside from eternatus. rose did what he had to keep his beloved region energised, even though it was a lose-lose situation: he either gets into shit for summoning the darkest day or when people realise he knew there would be a crisis, but didn't take any action. what he did was noble and the plan actually worked; iirc magnolia says something about the region having much more particles than before (but don't quote me on that). i think rose could've been a great character if dynamax and his backstory were explained more
Rose could have talked to people before he did this so that way the situation could have been resolved properly without the risk of injury.
but what would talking to people have done? they wouldn't be able to fix anything
It would have given Rose a bit more justification for what he did. If he at least tried to warn people or get people to help him then there would have been way less risk. He fricked with people's lives here.
i thought he had a whole team with him though? thats what it shows in the anime, and in-game oleana must've helped him at least a bit if she got bede to find the wishing stars
You still don't need a stadium full of people to do any of this.
He did it because he knew Leon was going to lose.
Leon still lost to the player after the Eternatus thing, what difference could it have made
>Now Germany have to burn more coal and pollute the environment even more because Russia cut their natural gas lol.
They woudl still burn more regardless barbecue the Eu operate on a pay to clear energy market anon.
Even the EU states with Hydro and Nuclear plants all still need natural gas and oil because of the massive uptick in energy use.
Also one factor people forget is that NA and Asia are also major buyers in the gas and oil market so if anything happens there that causes and uptick in energy usage like say bad winters, scalding summers or changes in manufacturing that too impacts it. On top of that many of the suppliers of fossil fuels did NOT increase production to meet demand even thoguh they could back in 2019/2020 when the problem first emerged.
Source?
The whole story happened because he was impatient. That's literally it.
His dad died from something they could have treated if he hadn't had a wait and see attitude about it, traumatizing him into making sure he takes care of all possible problems as immediately as possible while also impacting Peony in a different way, leading to his own obsession with trying to live life to the fullest and enjoy every moment like it could be his last.
smart observation
The games never delve into it but the anime has it so that Rose's father died in the Galar mines digging up coal, which caused him to hyper-focus on trying to find an infinite energy source that'd ensure both the people of the present AND the far off future would never have to do such dangerous work for their energy again, which led him to finding Wishing Stars, collaborating with Magnolia for the research of Galar Particles and the development of the Dynamax Band, his rise to top of the business world, etc.
The anime justification is so much better than the games’ half assed explanation of “he just doesn’t like delays”
I mean, they were trying to fix that garbage story so of course it's better.
Because gamefreak writing
Rose has a messiah complex. Ever since he was a child, he was seen as being very gifted. His gym challenge is adored by many people, NPCs talk about how great Rose is. Rose has a huge ego, and eventually he started believing that he knows better than other people and can't be wrong. So he triggers the Darkest Day, because in his mind his plan already has a success rate of 100%.
That's actually a pretty good explanation. If that was the intention then I wish they had conveyed it better.
Why didnt he wait like one day
He wanted an audience.
Given his whole wanting to make the tournament a big show wouldn't it have made more sense that the usage of dynamax energy was waking Eternatus up and would trigger the darkest day with him trying to downplay the concern. Granted this idea would trigger some ludonarritive dissonance with raids and what not but like it'd make more sense.
They coulda just locked the raids until later in the game and just blamed it on the darkest day shit.
There's so many ways they could go with this and they chose literally the dumbest route.
He is just stupid and is worrying about a situation that won't happen for another 1000 years. Even Leon calls him out.
His whole disaster happens because he couldn't wait (1) day.
Hell, the way he frames the incident is stupid. "I have brought upon The Darkest Day, for the sake of Galar, of course". This is not even TRUE.
He could have had simply said "An energy experiment went high wire and we need the help of the Champion!". Hell, even his fight with Hop and the MC make no sense, Eternatus is already raging... At least he could have made it seem like he though the kids were too weak to fight Eternatus or something.
I am not even sure what they were trying to say. Nuclear Bad? They don’t really stop using Galar Particles and now that Eternatus is active and under control…. They might as well be “Infinite”. So long Eternatus lives that is and knowing Pokémon it is probably immortal in some capacity.
Pic related is a real scene from the game.
>So long Eternatus lives that is and knowing Pokémon it is probably immortal in some capacity.
He is called Eternatus, what do you think?
>I have brought upon The Darkest Day
This always drives me nuts whenever I see that stupid cutscene. Why the frick would ANYONE say this to a fricking crowded stadium of people? That is automatically painting you as a bad guy. Frick this moron of a character, jesus christ.
Yeah that scene drives me insane too. It feels like it's just there because they wanted a dramatic twist moment and the dumbass writers couldn't come up with anything better or more fitting for his character.
His characterization feels pretty all over the place. It seems like he's supposed to be a well-intentioned and sympathetic guy with a fatal flaw, but here he acts like a psycho casually announcing he's starting the apocalypse. Like does he expect everyone to hear ominous shit like "The Darkest Day" and not assume that that's a bad thing?
And then there's his battle theme having an entire evil choir ensemble, probably tied with Ghetsis for the most evil sounding theme, all for the least evil villain in the series.
I wonder if his bad and impulsive decision will make kids think what he was trying to do was bad. It annoys me that the game doesn't try to help you solve the problem or tell you if it was fixed.
honestly thats how most games are. The heros will stop and shit on the villains plan for being immoral but not come up with any other solution then "we will find another way"
The thing that gets me is, like in Gen 6, this is a real nonissue in the Pokemon universe. Thanks to Pokemon, their world is more advance and pristine than ours. So imagine what they could do in 1000 years? They're literally a Pokemon away from fusion power.
I think that really is the worst part of it, like none of the other regions have a problem with energy without dynamax juice.
Remember why Lysandre went mad? The game tells it is due Strife and people's greed. He was a Philanthropist who was trying to make people’s life better but every time people fricked up or where consumed by greed. We are told there is some sort of shortage and that people are greedy. Kalos has (1) homeless person. Who is not even in the Main Story. Who stops being poor by the end of it. You walk into people’s house and they offer you milk and cookies. The game shows us the people being nice 90% of the time and the people who aren't good are Lysandre's goons.
Funny he shares issues with Rose, both of them are trying to solve a none-issue or at least something the game never really made us worry about and we are told "This is very serious" but nothing to show for it.
The way that game was going I thought Lysandre was going the 'two birds with one stone' route by rounding up all the undesirables in the guise of his secret club so he could use them to power up the Ultimate Weapon.
Its always most frustrating when they're right next to doing something clever, or at least commenting on the inconsistency beyond "just wait two more days lol"
In the anime they show him giving out food in like some third world country and people being greedy there. The anime has quite a lot of extra lore that's not in the games especially surrounding zygarde
I think maybe they were trying to go for an adrian veidt from watchmen style villain of the world is a good place but lysandre and rose just cant see it
Does Eternatus still produce energy drspite being in a pokeball?
Most of the energy is already scattered around the region; that's why it can't DMax normally. Putting it all back in eventaully overloaded it into Eternamaxing once it started getting notable effects (read: launching like a rocket).
Will Galar Particles ran out eventually if Eternatus isn't producing it anymore since it got sealed into a pokeball?
>if Eternatus isn't producing it anymore since it got sealed into a pokeball?
You underestimate the penetrating qualities of nuclear power. There's a reason silos have to be so big and wide.
You could also make a recency bias driving him like that, such as Galar being fresh off such a crisis happening (like the anime) or it's a bit less recent but resulted in his father's death (making it personal).
IIRC in the anime Eternatus is sealed within a safe deep below on who knows where. How will they harness its energy anymore?
>it should have been 100 years
>it should have been the ability to Dynamax, the very backbone of their economy
>Eternatus should have simply been about to wake up, not Rose going full moron
>it should have been Leon's hubris thinking he could do it all because he's the unbeatable hero
I honestly don't know what the frick they were thinking with this story line. The worst part is, it only needed a few tweaks here and there to make sense. Literally a few extra lines... My god, what a mess.
they could have said that eternatus can be summoned up once every 2000 years on a very specific day as a excuse, but no, gf is just shit at writing
It seemed to me that he was just a narcissist and a glory hound and wanted everyone to celebrate him for stopping the energy crisis, even if logically nobody would care. Based on Rose's history with his brother, I think he may have even been jealous of Leon's fame and intentionally tried to ruin the tournament and have Leon lose to Eternatus so he could come in and save the day.
Game was rushed. They probably had a better motive in mind but it would have required more development time be devoted to the character.
Mainline game writing has always been trash though so it didn't bother me.
He's like irl climate activists
Blowing it all out of proportion for recognition/good boy points
man shit and shill was such a trainwreck
Yet you Black person bought this shit
Just remove the 1000 years thing and his actions would make sense. GF could have simply write him as a villain who was force to do drastic actions to mantain Galar particles by gambling on Darkest Day.
>Just remove the 1000 years thing
Then what would the actual way they solve the energy crisis be? It's not like they resolve the problem Rose wanted to solve after they stop him
Galar's energy comes from "Galar Particles" and it is a finite resource. It will run out in about 1k years. Galar Particles come directly from Eternatus. They emanating from his Scales or some kind of spore. Wishing Stars come from Eternatus’ body. With Eternatus under control he can “Recharge” the Power Spots whenever.
Honestly, making it is running out during his life time… a year or maybe in the next months would fix everything.
>sparkling stones are parts of necrozma and are used to make z-rings for z moves, wishing stars are parts of eternatus and are fitted into dynamax bands to dynamax pokemon
>necrozma is a glowing light dragon with crystalline parts, eternatus is a glowing light dragon with crystalline parts
>team skull are a red herring and the leader of aether is the real villain, team yell are a red herring and the leader of macro cosmos is the real villain
>Hau is a cheery brown rival with a renowned relative (Hala, kahuna) and picks the weaker starter, Hop is a cheery brown rival with a renowned relative (Leon, champion) and picks the weaker starter
god why the frick did they repeat the same plot beats from the previous generation but worse?
In SWSH's defense its plot works better because it was an allegory for irl crisis energy unlike alola which resources to sustain themselves didn’t depend on Z-crystals. Team Yell was more entertaining to watch than team skull and they were never claimed to be a villain team. Plus hop is far from cheery. He is a emo lad with the most pessimistic message game freak has ever done.
They did resolve the energy crisis in the games and anime. The whole point was to cause The Darkest Day again, Eternatus doing literally anything afterwards is irrelevant. They directly explain that The Darkest Day is a meteorological phenomenon that occurs when Galar Particles are being released in vast quantities so they essentially refreshed their supply back to what it was when Eternatus first arrived on the planet on top of what they already had and being able produce more whenever they feel like it because Eternatus is still fully accessible.
I would have accepted 10 years or even 100. But 1000 years is extremely ridiculous.
Leon already promised to help him After the tournament was over, but this impatient autistic pajeet couldn't even wait ONE day.
He started the apocalypse early just because he was paranoid about a climate change esque problem that only his great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandchildren will be affected by.
I wish you people would stop comparing it to climate change. This is an energy crisis. Completely different.
Climate cultists are the reason why Europe has energy crisis right now. They offer no real solution but mess things up.
It's also because of them on why we can't explore our own natural resources because green regulations blocked gas drilling projects. I'm glad this war showed climate change is really just a first world problem and no one will give a shit about it when energy bills are overpriced or your country's economy is about to shut down. Hell at least Rose wants a self-sufficient Galar region even if he was impatient.
>expecting nuance on an internet political discussion
lol
I dont know how you have one of the most profitable franchinses in the entire world and yet have a story so bad that anyone here could have written a better ending to SWSH
Yes I know 'story' in pokemon are never good. but at least make an effort gamefreak what the frick.
The story makes a little bit more sense considering there are people as moronic as Rose in real life too.
Irl those people actually make more sense the Rose does because Rose knew that keeping the problem in check was a grantee but he just rushed it.
probably some half-assed message about the old generation having a fricking party and leaving their mess for the younger generation of kids to clean up
Letting Russia control EU's energy is even more moronic than outsourcing manufacturing to China. Both are bad but at least the latter happened because capitalists just wanted to exploit cheap labor while the former gut domestic energy production to virtue signal and now its beting them back to the ass.
Honestly, frick greens and climate activists. I ain't gonna listen to some richgays who traveled in private jet and tell me to eat zhe bugs.
biting*
Merkel thought she was meeting Putin halfway to keep him pacified. Boy, did that blow up in her face.
This is why I support Russia to teach these fricks a hard lesson.
Nah they'll learn nothing from this.
I mean that energy crisis in 1000 years is a BIG problem and there will be NO new solutions found at all within that time, no new innovations, no nothing we do except summon the darkest day right now it can't even wait a day as there is no other solution. Definitely no electricity Pokemon just a ways to the south. No that wouldn't happen...
>What was his problem?
A yearly release schedule.
The actual gym challenge in SwSh was great, but they cut so many corners on the villain plot that you're basically sidelined by manchild Leon for the majority of the story.
Why can’t we have a Trump like villan in Pokemon.
He would have to use Stakataka.
>Team Eagle boss wanting to remove all non Unova pokemon from the Unova region and talks about Making Unova Great Again.
Would be based.
I think Rose is misunderstood. The plan and the way he explained it was idiotic but I think he understood that 999 years from then, no one would have done anything about the 'now imminent' crisis.
There would always be "We'll take care of it after this tournament/Other crisis/minor inconvenience" Until it became "Actually this isnt a problem WE have to address." So he did what he had to do, knew hed be seen as a bad guy but the problem is solved for future generations.
I really like this character, everything about him is good, his personality his looks how he presents himself. It's just a shame the game did him dirty at the cimax
